What a nice idea ! We are 7 billions on this earth and Telekom Electronics Beats is the only one to offer a blind test drums machine, I think we have just found an interesting niche !
Big respect to the programmer, these patterns are fierce! Also, that Tempest sounds great! For who Matthew says he left the Tempest for? I couldn't hear it right.
It’s funny because I feel like when it first came out people said it didn’t sound good. It’s my absolute favorite piece of gear and when good god can it sound massive
These guys have phenomenal ears. I've been fortunate to own a lot of drum machines in my time, and even then I was left scratching my head for a lot of these
This channel never ceases to put out really enjoyable content. I love the blind test videos and I also love drum machines. Putting the two together makes me so happy!
Especially the difference to the RX 5 is just by a few extra sounds. The RX 11 guesses are far off, completely different sounds to the RX 5 and 7 and no orchestral or bass sounds at all. In the 80s I saved my money during vacation jobs to buy an RX 11 from the showroom of the music shop. When I finally got the amount the RX 5 just arrived - still have it today!
For the money, the Korg Volca Drum has an interesting broad palette of sounds. It does sound sound like a distant descendant of the Machinedrum. Was hoping MFB's machines would get some love there, because they are definitely more interesting than the RD-9. Shout out for the Acidlab Drumatix too, my personal favourite raw tones, along with the more flexible MFB Tanzbar.
I bourgt the small jubelee MFB , but sold it when I found a forgotteN Dr. RYTM 200 , in a drawer . It has since become My favorite Kick'n Clap option in my drumsound palette😁
I already knew that Stimming is a mastermind at this stuff, but every one of these musicians are geniuses in their own rite. I hope they do more of these blind tests.
Interesting how the RX7 put a smile on everyone's faces. I've had so much fun with that machine back in 89, even though it didn't sound as good as the Roland R8.
@@KagedDJ for beginning i would look a bit closer on the arturia drumbrute impact. it is pure analog and pretty rough sounding (what i like, especially for pure techno) and has a fantastique sequencer. the machine can be operated very simply and purposefully without detours through menues. plus: it is very affordable and a lot of fun. --- the "old" roland TR-8 ist also good for beginning. the sound is different, a bit more versatile, also easy to handle but I think the sequencer is a bit simple. --- all in all my favourite drummachine right now is the "erica / sonic potions LXR". very complex and may be not the best for beginnig, but for sure you have tons of possibilities for sound building/shaping and you can form any kind of drumsound you imagine. not cheap but worth every cent. i use it constantly and you can make complete traxx alone with this machine. so, hope to give a bit inspiration ;-) about your question. have fun.
@@KagedDJ - depending on budget, maybe look at an Elektron RYTM, the Mk1 is pretty cheap now. Analog drum machine with sample playback too. Plus the Elektron sequencer is fantastic, easy editing access to every step. It also has a simple but very useable analog synth ‘machine’, good for bass lines.
Wow this one hit home for me. Brought me back way back good times But I failed everyone of these, either I got it wrong or didn't know the answer. Best vid yet!
I actually never heard the Alesis HR-16 solo’d by itself. Always wondered what it sounded like! Actually really like the sound; organic/acoustic-sounding on some of the instruments. Well, I didn’t ID #1. Back to listening to the rest; this is fun! 😁
So thought this would be tough, but since i only own the ER1 i recognised it as soon as it started the snippet - i guess they are more recognisable than i imagined.
@@artisans8521 i agree, I have several similar priced synth's but My Deepmind 12 sound AMAZING, and for a 12 voices , analouge , juno sounding synth , Behringer did it afordeble and well crafted,-

à tout mes copains nicois, qui fasait du son en premier sur la rouge, puis avec des samples sur la verte, les électribes de korg toutes une épéoques, tout ça sur des sons énormes, belle époques ....
Fun episode... Disappointed that the Sequential Tom wasn't in the mix. That reversed sound and including a 3rd party cartridge (Drumware) would have def created a stumper I bet. I used to have an R-100. Wish I hadn't gotten rid of it. It was a really nice sounding kit. I decided to give up one years ago and the R-100 was what I let go0, keeping the Tom. I recently picked up a VolcaDrum. This is telling me to play with it more.
Called it with the RD9 as soon as i heared the pitched hihats (which Behringer corrected with a firmware update) also got the Linndrum right haha that was really the best i could do 😛
You should release a series where artists like above pick a drum machine of their choice and see what kind of beats they can come up with blind folded. Would be interesting / funny.
That was my favourite blind test yet.
yeah definitly !!
Agreed 100%

Exactly. So much pleasure. Let’s make part II this blind test - with the other/ maybe older legend stuff.
8 Billion from now :)

For your 2nd question about the Tempest, he talks about Tyger from Cobblestone Jazz.

The Yamaha RX7 was a riot. And very cool hearing the level of knowledge on this Blind Test.

respect to the man programming each machine so well.
All the artists who agree to do these are amazing. They've forgotten more than we'll ever know.
This is not helping with the space issues in my studio.
😂
Outta Space?
You need all of the gear, all of the time, that’s the only answer :P

What a cool demo of the variety of sounds spanning the history of drum synthesis.
Love this. More blind gear tests!

I love this. This and Captain Pikant are the right level of nerdy. And that RZ-1 just made it on Bad Gear last week. 🤣
Tempest is the only one I immediately recognized, but also the only one I actually owned out of all of these.
That’s a wonderfull idea ! With great guests ! Thanks !
I’m all for. For the kids coming up. Correct!
This is a great idea! Loved this!
Way more fun than i ever thought it would be, well done
Such a good idea doing the record blind tests, and now gear. Great stuff.
The reactions to Round 8 were hilarious 🤣
Why did they react that way for the uneducated?
Of a lesser quality and rips off the original 909 sound.

great video Mr. Wick! Thanks for your tireless effort! 🙏👏🏻👏🏻🙏

Great lineup of machines and musicians, keep em coming 👍🏻

everybody needs a tempest holy fook.
thumbs up for the patterns, really well played and programmed

The Kawai R100 reminded me of cEvin Key from Skinny Puppy. I don't know if they ever used one but it just has that feeling to it.
Ministry used it for sure
it's all over the old wax trax stuff, i recognized it from that but forgot the name

Their factory is in Zhongshan, China.

Great ...more gear blind tests please !!! :)))
Yessir- nice to hear those old and new in a row. In the 80/90 no track without a drum machine - I missed the Roland’s 🥴
If you don’t recognize the classic Rolands….. so way to easy.
These guys have to be getting hints...Just listening to them not know at all one second and then going "Oh yeah of course it's X".
Hats off to the programmer 👩💻

Amazing stuff indeed
I was able to recognize the Volca Drum... Which is the only one of these that i own 🙂
Nice job Bill!
If they had turned off the enhanced mode on the RD-9 they would not have known.
They were still all saying "Jomox" etc... then they find out it's lowly Behringer -- "ew -- I'd never. It's what poor people use."
@@delta-9969 It didn't sound bad, but not as good as the original.
Also, the RD-9 is not from China 😉 It may be built in China but if so a lot of other drum machines should have been named as such. Pure snobbery.

great Episode!! best dudes...
Nice variation on the theme! Turns out I really don't know my drum machines. Fell for the 909 and was otherwise next to clueless.
