the number of people who got played like a fiddle in 8 Princes sure is high.. almost like Sima Yi sucked out all the intellect of his line to put on himself..
It tends to happen to all later generations of royal/aristocratic families, as they become more and more out of touch with the common people and more decadent. Also, education for non-heir descendants of the royal family tend to be intentionally subpar in strategy and military affairs, in fear of them becoming strong enough to contest the throne.
obviously the Sima Clan did a terrible job keeping the various princes weak. Emperor Sima Yan took lessons from the demise of Cao Wei, seeing that the various Cao princes were far too weak amidst a power vacuum in the central government, and over-corrected his own Jin Empire by giving the princes far too much power.

Another great tier list video! Really helps to breakdown the characters from the most obscure DLC. With regards to Eight Princes' age, all of them have the long-life modifier, like Huang Zhong. That means they can not die until they are over 70 years old in Romance mode.
Sima Wei with nature’s ally is quite funny. As him you’re in a really good position to grab the animal gamer which usually drops Red Hare early in 8P. With his bonuses and nature’s ally I’m pretty sure Sima Wei goes faster than Lu Bu could ever hope to.
Could you do a titles tier list and how best to use them? I’ve always been confused with a couple of the titles like “commander who scales city walls” which bonuses are really all over the place.
I really love your style of videos. From the very beginning of your channel yours are, in my opinion, easily the most accessible and comprehensive for both understanding the game mechanics, as well as raising and entertaining interest in the periods covered by the game and its dlcs. ...And I hate to be nitpicky but I believe you overlooked some factionwide bonuses (please correct me if i missed it). On the princes themselves, some traits are changed to give them a twist towards being a factionleader. stability gives +2 noble support factionwide (which as we all know goes completely against your playstyle, so fair enough) clarity gives -10 building upkeep factionwide (not as unsignificant as just on the commandery I believe, but still fairly minor) wisdom gives +5 reserves factionwide (ok that's meh I'll give you that) Again, I'm really sorry for being such a pedant. Please never stop making videos, I want to one day tell my grandchildren one day I've been watching this great guy for 40 years now! ;)
Is it really? What about bugs? I never tried it yet and I don't really see how could it be an interesting campaign. Are there any threats and obstacles to overcome mid-late game?
The Yellow Turban list would be interesting to see. Just got MoH and they really are quite different from Han. Their trees are so random and you have to comb each to see if they have Recovery hidden somewhere 😅
The story of princess Pei hit me hard, poor lady. If the early three kingdoms is a story about heroic deeds and doing what's right for the nation, then the end of the Jin was like the doom and despair of the nation. Such apocalyptic feel are usually seen in the end of an era and i simply pray that we do not fall into a similar experience.
I am now start playing Sima Yong campaign and have to say his is Gongsun Zan on steroids, he got his own shock and archer cavalry and most important his own retinue can shoot fire arrows. And ofc his army buildings give money, a lot ofthem!
After having played most of them, I think my favorite to play is Sima Liang. He's just Liu Biao on steroids in terms of playstyle and focus in gameplay. He encourages a tall playthrough, which I kind of enjoy for flavor, and he gets a good group of characters to back him up. It's also pretty fun in an "alternate history" sense. The other ones I love are Sima Lun and Sima Ai. Sima Lun because using espionage to the nth degree similarly to Cao Cao is really fun, and allowed me to ironically expand almost as fast as Sima Yong. I'd just attack the enemies where they weren't, and picked apart their empires piece by piece. It got borderline surgical in the mid-game. I just like Sima Ai because he pretty much rewards you for simply playing the game. To my knowledge anyway.
47:31 大都督, I normally just called it "Grand Commandant", but apparently it's translated to "Grand Chief Controller", I imagine the "controller" is referring to military controller.
Perfect! I watch this before I play this 8 prince game. There’s no point to rule entire China. It’s more fun and time saving to try them all characters and have your own goals then call quit.
@Serious Trivia, no link here but I have a specific question every reason is good to inscrease comments number lol I am passionate about the three kingdoms like you, when Cao Cao takes the emperor I know Xiahou Yuan was the administrator of Chenliu, Xiahou Dun in Puyang but do you know who he put in charge of defending/administrate LuoYang ? Maybe you can help me I didn't find the answer nowhere
in 196 right after Cao Cao took over the Emperor and moved him to Xuchang, Xiahou Dun was named Henan Yin (administrator of Henan). Luoyang is the capital city of the Henan commandery so Xiahou Dun would be administrator that you are looking for
@@SeriousTrivia thanks for your answer so if Xiahou Dun became the administrator of Henan who became the administrator of Puyang at this time? Puyang = Dong commandery if I don't make a mistake
so first off, Puyang is a city not a commandery so you can't be the administrator of Puyang. Xiahou Dun was the administrator of Dong (the commandery where Puyang resides) closer to the 190 when Cao Cao was just starting out (basically right when Cao Cao took over Yong Province). But that was short-lived as you had the war with Lu Bu in the middle where that territory switched lands many times, so Xiahou Dun hadn't been the administrator of Dong for a while by 196-197 when the Emperor was seized by Cao Cao. As for who became the administrator, no idea since it was probably a non-military official. The only notable military appointees who were also administrators at this time are Xiahou Yuan who became the Chenliu administrator around 196 before shifting to the administrator of Yingchuan, Cheng Yu who became the administrator of Jiyin, Xun You who became the administrator of Runan, and Cao Ren who became the administrator of Guangyang. Most officers (military ones and thus more famous during this time period) do not become administrators.
@@SeriousTrivia just in case if you are curious about it I found the answer: the administrator of Dong commandery after Xiahou Dun was Liu Yan at this time (the one from the battle of boma)

Thanks for giving 8P some focus. It's my favorite DLC, as it's better structured for a more traditional sandbox game.

the translation for Sun Ce's faction is Director of Officers which I think is very accurate for the job

Will you consider a tier list of unique buildings? Side by side with their original counterpart.
hmm sure!
One day the 8P Records playthrough will win the poll, one day 😔
A few months ago, it did!
Ooo, excited for the Yellow Turban video!
Came for the list stayed more the LORE!!!!!
How have I just discovered this video!?
One day you'll play as Sima Lun! One day!
I really wish CA would make a 五胡十六国 DLC and incorporate more non-Han characters and units into the game.
Thanks for the historicals tips 😊
Trivia, come on man, most people who study the Jin dynasty will say that Sima Lun and Sun Xiu were "just friends"
Sima Lun's unique skill's art looks like the yellow turban skills. Is it possible that he has gotten one of those?
yes it is

Tier list time woooooooooo!
hey, are you going to put He Man, Zhang Kai, and Pei Yuanshao in the YT tier list
Yes they are unique
Do you know if the 8 Princes start incorporates all the new updates? Picking your rank level ups and council missions?
Faction council yes I think rank level up is only Han so not Jin? Not sure though
I still hope for a Chu-Han DLC
I think sima ju is the same generic that spawn on turn 2, duplicate characters maybe?
Definitely not the same since the background bonus is insane here.

This dlc felt half baked to me. Good video though
ay this vid is 1:11:11 long :))
