Dude, c'mon. The hip, the Beatles, PJ... this sociopath didn't even realize his own brother's talent. I will hate this gorgeous, beautiful band, till the day I die. A bad death, cuz I love em.
So cool to hear Tommy mention Sid Selvidge (RIP)!!! Unsung hero of the Memphis blues scene in the 60s&70s. Still can't find that Jim Dickinson LP on vinyl though... Thanks Tommy!
tommy was always my favorite member of the replacements. Probably because I was 13 when I got into them and I was like "ooh look a kid rockstar" Gotta say he was cute back in the day
When I was a teenager in the late 1980s, I used to tune into the college radio station at 10:00 pm and listened into the wee hours of the morning to the Mats. So fun to find out Tommy likes the Cocteau Twins!
Just listened/discovered to the replacements this summer along with Radiohead all summer, and my god what a catalog to get with during crazy times. Let it Be, Sorry ma, pleased to meet me, hootenanny are all amazing records, love Tommy’s bass lines on a lot of their songs are out of this world fucking feels like euphoria
Tommy Stinson! Tommy Stinson! That guy's awesome! AWESOOOOOOMEEEEEEE! awesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesome
damn, the faith no more record in the back switched places between gang of four and the jam. was something edited out that tommy stinson said about "the real thing"??
So kool it is to hear a member of one of my all-time top-fav bands expound on his favorite music and how he came to love the artists and the given albums and the role those albums played in his life and how that impact evolved over time -- especially the story about the connection between the Cocteau Twins album and his daughter's birth and early life!
Last year my nephew played me some Lana Del Rey & I said yeah it's cool, sounds like this band I remember from the 80's called the Cocteau Twins, played some for my nephew & he was like wow, really cool. Tommy Stinson starts talking about Lana & I think wouldn't it be funny if he was a Cocteau Twins fan when he was playing for the Replacements . . . turns out he was.
I found a mint copy of Chelsea Girl for a few bucks at a small dusty Flea Market in the American South. And Johnny Winters Second Winter- same price! Finding a MINT Nico LP anywhere outside of a record store or private collection is unheard of....and it wasn't even an used album stall....
Nice, I literally just started to get into The Replacements! Idk how it took me so damn long to get around to it, I've only been listening to their contemporaries for nearly 17 years (I'm 30, going on 31), and always heard good things about them, but literally did not listen to them till last month, after I was convinced to listen to the albums "Let It Be" and "Tim"... My only regret it that I hadn't started listening to them as a teenager. Fucking brilliant ✌🏼
Sometimes it's nice to get into something late. You get to enjoy a wide scope, a deep rabbit hole of their work. Like instant gratification and patient waiting at once.
He mentions Gang of Four's 'To Hell with Poverty'. Greatest guitar intro ever. Next to the Tim version of 'Can't Hardly Wait', of course. Tommy's cool.
Setting Sons was good, had some great tunes, and you could see Weller was trying emulate Pete Townshend by including a mini operatic song cycle in there.Personally,I always liked All Mod Cons the best.
Watching this video again reminded me of how I found out about The Babys and Gang of Four. Also, the Replacements are one of the best bands in history in my opinion.
I know Tommy , he’s a sweetheart! Funny way to know him! Woke up in two different women’s kitchens drinking coffee in the am. We cracked up, quietly. Friends since, with a smile. Smart kid!
I don't know, I kept waiting for him to mention it, but every time they cut back, it looked like the record was gradually moving further and further away from his pile haha.
talk about a guy with life experience, unlike most "hardened" men he actually was tougher than most...imagine being 13 in a rowdy bar.. must have been life affirming....
"Going Down" (NOT "ain't going down) do yourself a favor and find that great unreleased GN'R track with "General Tommy Stinson" on Lead Vocals & Axl on Backing (l know right??). I Really hope we get to hear those unreleased songs from GN'R Tommy and the other fellas put YEARS of their lives into but no one ever (as of yet) got to hear.
+xRAxK he mainly grabbed it to talk about the producer, Matt Wallace who also produced a Replacements album. He’s not much of a fan of that record though.
Tommy likes Pet Sounds as does everyone but then if you listen it's got 5 great songs whereas the Mats always had 7 or 8 great songs on their best records.
I had every one of those records; even The Babies album. I bought that one on the same day that I bought The Romantics first album (before the single, What I Like About You, became a successful single for them). The only point of division would be over Jackson Browne who I think is brilliant. :)
A man who's been in the rock'n'roll business since the age of 11. Respect.
Right!?
Have you read that book- best seller,
“The Trouble Boys?”
The first record he picked was beach boys. I knew Replacements were my favorite band for a good reason.
The Replacements, the greatest band of all time, period
Close , but Husker du takes the ring
The replacements... such an amazing, legendary and REAL band. Love them.
Dude, c'mon. The hip, the Beatles, PJ... this sociopath didn't even realize his own brother's talent. I will hate this gorgeous, beautiful band, till the day I die. A bad death, cuz I love em.
@@iggypopisgod9 hells ya! But honestly , if Bob and Paul could just talk things out... then replacements by a month
They r definitely tp10
So cool to hear Tommy mention Sid Selvidge (RIP)!!! Unsung hero of the Memphis blues scene in the 60s&70s. Still can't find that Jim Dickinson LP on vinyl though... Thanks Tommy!
impossible not to love this adorable bastard
tommy was always my favorite member of the replacements. Probably because I was 13 when I got into them and I was like "ooh look a kid rockstar" Gotta say he was cute back in the day
The first Lana Del Rey album and Blue Bell Knoll are two of my all time faves. Love Gang of Four. Great choices
Carolyn's Fingers by Cocteau Twins, one of the greatest songs ever composed. Other worldly.
When I was a teenager in the late 1980s, I used to tune into the college radio station at 10:00 pm and listened into the wee hours of the morning to the Mats. So fun to find out Tommy likes the Cocteau Twins!

Wow that was my two major band discoveries as well these past few years
When you see him put back Dragnet by The Fall :,(
Tommy Stinson. Man, I've never clicked on a video faster in my life.
Same!
Such a great, eclectic choice of music -- surprised a bit by the Cocteau Twins pick (love that album too!)
Tommy Stinson! Tommy Stinson! That guy's awesome! AWESOOOOOOMEEEEEEE! awesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesome
Love how he picked a Jam record
He looked at those Fall records.
Really good selection. He seems like such a cool guy
damn, the faith no more record in the back switched places between gang of four and the jam. was something edited out that tommy stinson said about "the real thing"??
Love a man in Uniform. Is such a classic record. And yeah you can never go wrong with Chelsea Girls
Yeah the Replacements. It was their attitude.....punk and rebellious and the songs. Great guitar tones. Rocking band
He seems like a cool dude
@d0dFLyEr how so?
So kool it is to hear a member of one of my all-time top-fav bands expound on his favorite music and how he came to love the artists and the given albums and the role those albums played in his life and how that impact evolved over time -- especially the story about the connection between the Cocteau Twins album and his daughter's birth and early life!
Nobody cooler than Tommy! Great picks dude. THANKS FOR THIS POST

Same goes for me.... It's embarrassing and exciting. Just when you think all of your musical obsessions have been established and worn out....
Check out The Replacements at the 7th Street Entry 1981 on YT. I used to see them all the time in Mpls! RIP: Bob.
Sometimes it's nice to get into something late. You get to enjoy a wide scope, a deep rabbit hole of their work. Like instant gratification and patient waiting at once.
It's better late than never, I'm 29 have been a fan since 2007.
So cool that “Thick As Thieves” is his favorite song too...
Man I really should check out the Acapella version of Pet Sounds. And James Luther Dickinson sounds amazing.
Dickinson was also tied in with Big Star, and his son's are the North
Mississippi All-Stars.
Nice to see some love for The Babys.. Wait really has an amazing voice and crafted some great power pop hits of that era.
Mike Scott Agreed, especially “Isn’t It Time” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Waite
Saw John Waite 2022..... Amazing !
Amazing !
anyone know where to get a jacket like that? looks cool
I like it when someone comes across very differently than I expected.
He mentions Gang of Four's 'To Hell with Poverty'. Greatest guitar intro ever. Next to the Tim version of 'Can't Hardly Wait', of course. Tommy's cool.
Just finished reading Trouble Boys. Great read. Looking for Perfect songs by Tommy.
Lots of good records but man, those last three in a row are incredible.
Really also need to check out that The Baby's record.
YES, theJam “Setting Sons”. Thick asThieves is my fave too
100%!!!
The Jam are awesome! I always felt they influenced the Replacements. At least Tommy's base playing.
Setting Sons was good, had some great tunes, and you could see Weller was trying emulate Pete Townshend by including a mini operatic song cycle in there.Personally,I always liked All Mod Cons the best.
Go Tommy! Nice mix of picks, love some Gang of Four
I think its fAN - FUCKIN - TASTIC that Tommy Stinson is getting some well deserved recognition !! Good on ya Tommy!
Highly recommend checking out the two Bash and Pop records if you like Tommy. They are both excellent.
Watching this video again reminded me of how I found out about The Babys and Gang of Four. Also, the Replacements are one of the best bands in history in my opinion.
Thank god a guy who appreciates the brilliance of pop music {No dreary Brazilian samba nigerian fusian delta jazz}
Bash and Pop new Lp is feeeeenominal!!!
I agreed with everything he had. I disagree with not liking Jackson Browne. How can you not like Jackson Browne?
BEST SHOW NO SHOW
Love him so much for that chelsea girls album 💖
Tommy Stinson (The Replacements/Guns N' Roses/Bash & Pop/Perfect) *
Ricardo Gama and Soul Asylum
But mainly The Replacements.
I know Tommy , he’s a sweetheart! Funny way to know him! Woke up in two different women’s kitchens drinking coffee in the am. We cracked up, quietly. Friends since, with a smile. Smart kid!
The only man I'll allow to wear a fedora
Izzy Stradlin:)
@@ryangettig274 Indiana Jones, Leonard Cohen, Clash but thats about it.
Mike Scott
Phil Campbell
Freddy Krueger
I just made a point of listening to James Luther Dickinson. That sole clip sounded amazing!
God, I hate saying it. But Bob needs to remembered... always
tommy gets his tonsils out
reymont cantil You know what? I've been in the hospitol...
Rip rip gonna rip em out now
04:51 LOL what happened to that Faith No More album? He regretted picking it?
I don't know, I kept waiting for him to mention it, but every time they cut back, it looked like the record was gradually moving further and further away from his pile haha.
Wasn't he like 13 when he played with The Replacements?
Yes.. check out The Replacements at the 7thStreet Entry 1981. Tommy was 14 or 15 then.... GOOD TIMES.
I think he joined the 'Mats before he was born.
talk about a guy with life experience, unlike most "hardened" men he actually was tougher than most...imagine being 13 in a rowdy bar.. must have been life affirming....
Another interview where Tommy shows his admiration for Cocteau Twins. How very cool.

I like his Bob Cratchit gloves.
No band reminds me more of being 17 back in the eighties, than The Cocteau Twins
Grande Tommyy!
This is by far the best WIMB selection!
Love this lad!!!! LAMF foreverrrrrrrrrrrr
This was so useful, thanks lovely x
I watched a 1989 interview with Tommy/Paul..
They said Cocteau Twins then
Oh yes!!!!! The coolest MF’r on the PLANET!!!
They played the greatest bit of lyrics from the album at the end of the video.
Wow, awesome that he loves Sad-Eyed Lady… listened that song to death a couple years back, lol. Still has that magic to it today
I'd give a great deal to hear Nico's near-mythical recording of 'I've Got A Luvverly Bunch Of Coconuts'.
how do you pronounce Nico??/ is it neee-co, or Neye- co?? i like that one, the rest of tommy's bag is so- so.
@@oreokookie1000 Neeko is how it’s pronounced.
With all that music background, how wouldn´t The Replacements create all that awesome music?
GREAT picks!
I've always thought that John Waite might have been a secret influence on Chris Robinson...Anyone else?
Damn this guy has good taste.
Wonder why they snubbed the Faith No More album
+xRAxK he mainly grabbed it to talk about the producer, Matt Wallace who also produced a Replacements album. He’s not much of a fan of that record though.
WTF!! I had to scratch my head when I saw that one on the pile.
Ahhh Thank you
Oh God, is he too cool for faith no more? lol.
Tommy's face looks amazingly like Harvey Keitel! 2 talented cool dudes!
The Jam!!!
SO GOOD.
I got em all. Where'd ya get that jacket Tommy, I love it.
Cornball
wow really was pleasantly surprised by many of his choices but they were all recordings that i was into......i just did not see that Tommy would too
Interesting that the Blonde on Blonde with the Claudine Cardinal shot and the other woman which were removed during the 60s issues.
The quality of the guests lately has been top notch
+Sam Bullock Thanks!
Damn standing right in front of Delbert and Glen… one of the great country funk albums of all time. I’d walk out happy with just that!
Born to Die is my life story I'm so happy you picked her because.... what!? Cocteau twins!? You like them too!?
Great pick with the Beach Boys Tommy.
Tommy likes Pet Sounds as does everyone but then if you listen it's got 5 great songs whereas the Mats always had 7 or 8 great songs on their best records.
Nah, every track on Pet Sounds is a masterpiece, sorry. Westerberg was a genius but not Wilson-level genius.
Tommy you gave such great suggestions i had to cut you short and go listen to Dylan, Peace !
What is the song playing at the end of this video please??
Bash & Pop- Anything Could Happen
Does anyone recognize the song that closes this episode? It's dope.
Mat's forever ❤️
Are they selling vinyls again ❓✌️
I had every one of those records; even The Babies album. I bought that one on the same day that I bought The Romantics first album (before the single, What I Like About You, became a successful single for them). The only point of division would be over Jackson Browne who I think is brilliant. :)
Such a cool dude, Tommy.
Replacements have fantastic harmonies. Don’t get enough credit.
hey Tommy, betcha didn't need three GPSes to find Amoeba... or do yours just not work only in New Jersey? Funny, that.
That still blows my mind as the greatest excuse ever.
Tommy got good taste, I've got so many of these rockers.
Great picks
Staying forever young!
Never thought to see Tommy Stinson old.
The Baby's, loved them. Gang Of Four....interesting, The Jam. Perfect....Tommy.
Please get John Dwyer/Thee Oh Sees on here
+Voodoo Child attempts have been made, it just hasn’t worked out yet. We’ll keep trying.
Edited out Faith No More?
Jim Dickinson was a genius. I love what he did on the Big Star Third/Sister Lovers record.
Is he the same guy that produced those Mudhoney records?
Love it. What song is playing in the beginning?
Bash & Pop - On The Rocks
John Waite is 5' 9" tall and Tommy is like 6' so WTF is he talking about?
