I am 51 yr old father of two, with a son who is starting woodwork in Secondary school. He shares the same first name as you. Love your stuff, its absolutely great to see your work, and you're an inspiration to a lot of people I am sure, myself included. Might be doing some wood work with the lad in the garage in the New Year.
It's great to hear your son can still take a woodworking class. Most schools in my area have removed woodworking & metal shop classes & all the equipment scrapped or given away, sadly.... Hello 👋🏻 from Southern California 🌴
@@annettev8362 Yeah, that's understandable. It's dangerous to use a band saw with a cellphone in your hand. Such a shame that an amazing trade won't be shared with today's youth. Videos on wood working are all well and good. But there's so much more to experiencing it first hand. The smell of the workshop. The smooth, warm feel of a fresh slab of wood about to take shape.
My heart broke a little bit for you when that salt box imploded. :( I love your videos, your attitude, your work ethic and your Irish brogue. I'll be watching probably all of your older videos in the coming days and weeks. Best wishes from Tennessee, USA.
Been watching your videos a lot the last few days, your attitude, work ethic and videos in general are very refreshing. I'm a journeyman auto mechanic by trade but your peaking my interest in getting into wood working, I've even been snooping around on Ebay keeping my eye out for old woodworking tools lol. Cheers and all the best from "across the pond" as we say here in Newfoundland lol.
I seem to recall you saying that building furniture would not be profitable for you, but your attention to detail and devotion to wood working makes me believe that you could be a master at it. I could imagine you accepting commission pieces of incredible beauty that brings out the beauty of the wood in the manner of the old craftsman.
Mate... When your box broke.... I felt that.. I felt that.. great video, I love it that UA-camrs are keeping the old ways alive and don't need to worry so much about the profitability of the product being made. You should raffle off the items you make and just enjoy the process of making by hand. Well done. Cheers J
Some powerful memories of my father's workshop. He did the same kind of work as you and I've seen all those tools doing their thing. He turns 90 this year. A carpenter, joiner, wheelwright and blacksmith. I don't know what will happen to his tools... it's sad really.
I seriously look forward to these vlogs so much! Something about the simplicity of them make them so much more interesting than any other “woodworking” channel I’ve come across. It’s a rare glimpse into someone’s daily work process when most people make videos based on a new project they are showing themselves build. It’s also fascinating seeing a bit of an Irish man’s perspective 😅😊
Idk about that but I agree people get far to caught up in having the right gear. I used the front facing camera on a broken Iphone x for two years to get myself started,.
Love your videos, keep it up! Great great workshop you have there. Hope it is not getting too cold during winter time. As a German I really like your Irish accent. Cheers. Jan
Your long form content is so relaxing. I am really surprised you didnt even use much/any artificial lights for your videos up till now, its some real oldschool home cooked video content
I have zero talent for woodwork. After an attempt to varnish a pinball machine in yr9 DT resulted in all the moving parts together I gave up. Love watching your stuff, in a time when social media is full of frauds your genuine talent is refreshing. 👍🏻
Its fascinating watching your videos, your commentary is hypnotic ! I emigrated to America but Ive always wished I went to Family in Dungarvan instead !
I love watching your videos. Gives me the drive to keep working on my own projects. Lately, I've been working on a wardrobe out of western red cedar for my apartment since my girlfriends clothes take up all of our current closet space 🤣 built her a yarn cabinet a while back too since she makes blankets so she had stockpiles of yarn all over the place until i built that
So I came across your channel and I found you using a very funny shaped wooden hammer, it is the same thing that my granpda has/had in his chest of tools, I now know what the hell that funny wooden hammer is for. smacking the joint together, it explains why it looks the way it does all rounded/impacted down. A nice memory. cheers.
The recording style and quailty really reminds me of those independent shows you'd see on PBS or the Science Channel bsck in the late-00, early 2010s. And not's a really, really good thing.
I let out a big “awwwwww” when I seen the clamp eat the salt Box, good to see you still smiling looking the destruction tho . I don’t do any wood working but your videos played on my shorts and now I just watch some dude cut wood from over seas lol. Greetings from Illinois, USA!
Kid, that's what we say in America, I enjoy your channel. I'm jealous of your new shop. Old school, love. Take us on a night out in an Irish pub. We want to see the bartenders😂. Regrets of my youth...never got drunk in a real Irish bar. Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for the pub shenanigans video.
Everyone should be tuning into this channel. I like your positive outlook ,with the good work ethic , challenging yourself. And that accent is a great topper. Great work brother
I have no idea why my algorithm brought your content to me, but I'm so glad it did. It's a joy to watch you work. Your content makes me feel like I'm working right next to you. You present a very friendly, genuine, approachable demeanor. Please, keep up the great work!
1:52 You left your camera!!! I know, I know; I'm kidding! The lengths creators go through to simulate scene continuity is grossly underappreciated. Love your work though!! Keep up the great work!! Love from Metuchen, New Jersey.
That failure right at the end was so relatable, I don't know how many things I destroyed minutes before completion. Mainly acrylic fountain pens though. Small catches on the lathe.. 🙈
Totally amazing, even though the dovetail box has to have "another go"... I am Navajo from America, also know as First Nations. I was trying to to sound like you😁 at the end there..
Keep going Eoin! The next salt box is going to be even better and it was wonderful to be included on the journey even though the end result wasn't what you'd hoped. My heart also broke with you when the salt box fell apart and yet we learn to get up and try again. If at first you don't succeed try, try again. The little train that could is a nursery rhyme that has always stuck with me. I think I may actually engrave it on some wood once I have my own place. Seeing you make all of these things reawkens my hope that I can too! Thanks for that. I hope you continue to flourish and make many more wonderful wooden creations. I learn so much here and it is a very nice corner of youtube I am very grateful for.
Awww, hate when that happens haha. As a welder myself when you said paint and glue make me the jointer i ain't. We say A grinder makes me welder i ain't.

Ooof. Like a punch in the gut when something you put time into splits when it is almost done. Similar thing happened to me last night on a present for my wife. Lots of time 'til Christmas to try again. ; )
I love your workshop setup! I come from a farm background with loads of out houses but I flew the coop before I was 17 to serve my apprenticeship as a fitter in the big shmoke. I settled into urban life in East Cork but my greatest regret is we bought a townhouse 20 years ago with no back or side entrance so no possibility of a nice shed out the back that I’ve been hankering for for about the last 10 years! I am involved with my local men’s shed which gives me a space to do some tinkering but there’s no place like your own place! 😂 Well done for your honesty also when the box broke on you! You could have skipped that bit but by showing us it happened tells us something of your integrity. It happens us all! ( I thought it was just me.. 🤣) Keep it up lad FairPlay!
You have a wonderful accent Eoin. It's reassuring to watch a craftsman take such good care of his tools it is!. I started sweeping the floor in a local furniture factory and now have my own barn woodwork shop over here on the pacific coast. Always on the lookout for secondhand machines, I picked up a band saw a few years back, fixed it up and now it's worth its weight in gold! Good luck to ya fella!
It's nice to see someone using tools that are older than they are. Over here in North America, I feel like everybody replaces tools just because Milwaukee made a new saw... Lol
Love your videos brother, keep up the good work. You've really got me wanting to try my hand at woodworking, I have been wanting to get into it for years but just haven't gotten the tools yet.
I’ve never even thought about doing woodworking before but your enthusiasm and knowledge really is addicting! I might have to give it a try! Keep doing what you’re doing Eoin, it’s brilliant!
Just starting to teach myself woodworking over the last couple months. I feel your pain, and I haven't even attempted dovetails yet! You've inspired me to look into expanding my inventory of hand tools, I've really been enjoying your videos and wish you the best!
Hello! I'm new to your channel and have fallen in love with your running commentary and all the things you build. It's been a year or two now since the last time I've done something with wood, and your box breaking reminded me of all the other oopsies I went through during my own wood work projects. Eoin, I'm really sorry about the salt box. I feel badly that it didn't work out; I know exactly how you must feel, since I've had similar things happen. I hope you can take another try at it and have it work out better. I wish you the best of luck. - Michael

Good show. My sister put this up on FB recently, and it reminded me of you. I hope it fits. . A poem I found. No author identified yet:
Beechwood fires are bright and clear
If the logs are kept a year,
Chestnut's only good they say,
If for logs 'tis laid away.
Make a fire of Elder tree,
Death within your house will be;
But ash new or ash old,
Is fit for a queen with crown of gold .
Birch and fir logs burn too fast
Blaze up bright and do not last,
it is by the Irish said
Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread.
Elm wood burns like churchyard mould,
E'en the very flames are cold
But ash green or ash brown
Is fit for a queen with golden crown.
Poplar gives a bitter smoke,
Fills your eyes and makes you choke,
Apple wood will scent your room
Pear wood smells like flowers in bloom
Oaken logs, if dry and old
keep away the winter's cold
But ash wet or ash dry
a king shall warm his slippers by.
