If anyone is considering the difference between French and Chinese Feiyue and which to buy here's my experience: The Chinese Feiyue are out-of-the-box much more flexible and have a thinner sole/padding. If you're hardcore set on martial art and parkour training, and you want to support the company with the more 'authentic' heritage, the Chinese ones are for you.
The French versions are out of the box more rigid and have a more noticeable foam insole (which can be removed). This cushioning and support make them much better for walking and regular gym lifting. THAT SAID, once you break them in, you notice they will get very thin and very flexible. I have been wearing my pair of French Feiyue ROUGH at the gym for 6 days a week for over a year, and now I could fold them in half twice over without any effort and feel every pebble under my step. The origin of the French brand is mired in either misunderstanding or malice. But remember, the French shoes (just like most American owned shoes) are made in and exported from China anyways. It wouldn't even shock me if they came from the same factories .
    Summary:
Chinese = better out the box for Martial Arts, more authentic, harder to source
French = better out the box for gym or streetwear, not the OGs, but easier to source abroad.

Hello sir, I think you forgot to mention that the original are the Dafu, the top one feyues are a contractor of the dafu. The Dafu company renamed the shoe from Feiyue to Dafu and at the bottom of the shoe instead of green triangle they have a red dot.
People say that the Dafu have thicker sole

Thanks so much for this info dawg! The whole feiyue thing is a minefield! Those black with red triangle high tops with the thinner flatter sole are by far my favourite feiyue. The build quality overall seems to me to be far superior. I’m only a few weeks into a fresh pair but the sole seems to hold out way better. Not as squishy but as flexible. Are you saying there’s no way to order these from China and know your getting the right ones? To clarify I’m in Australia and I’d be keen on retailing them to the public.

I have tried many different types of shoes for wushu/kung-fu. These are the best so far in terms of overall performance, grip and experience. Time will tell how the last but they where very afforable priced so buying another pair seems very likely. Thanx for the quick service and great video review that caught my attention as well as meeting my needs. Only thing I have to do after being very swetty is to re-tie the shoelaces once per practise after 1 hours of use.

If you're training on hard ground, gravel etc, they will wear out fairly quick but on grass, indoor surfaces you'll get loads more life out of them

I've been looking for a minimalist pair of shoes that are comfortable, supportive, durable and breathable. Would you recommend these over a pair of $260 Vevo Barefoot shoes? I've been dealing with plantar fasciitis for the past 6 months on and off. I just stopped wearing HOKA shoes because they were giving me a lot of pain. I've been walking around the house barefoot most of the time. I really want to transition to minimal shoes. What do you thiunk about wearing these as a transition shoe, wearing them lightly/moderately for daily things?

    • @sb-vy8cw
      @sb-vy8cw 2 роки тому +1

I've transitioned into barefoot running and have just received a pair of Feiyues as a minimalist casual shoe. These work great! As well a being comfortable and allowing your feet to move freely and get stronger they also look really good. Lots of minimalist shoes look awful but I will ve sticking with Feiyues.

    • @haisulii
      @haisulii 2 роки тому

I think they're good as a minimalist shoe, just a bit tighter in the toe cap than more barefoot shoes so don't use a too small size or it'll squeeze the toes. The only thing I've had to do while transitioning is stretching the Achilles tendons a bit before going running.

    • @EnsoMartialArts

Ooo good question, they are all still Feiyue but he green triangle are the original feiyue shoe design. The red triangle are slightly hard rubber so better for day to day use but they are prone to splitting. The green triangle are softer so lots more grip but can wear out faster if you use them as a daily shoe. Much better for training though

From what I've found on Reddit, these are made in three factories:
French - Established in 2006 by Patrice Bastian, the shoe's sole has a red circle, thicker and narrower sole than other 2 chinese brands, thicker fabric, less fit for martial arts than the other 2 chinese brands.
DaFu - Originally a factory for rubber, they started making feiyue shoes way back in 1920's, the outsole has a red circle, thicker and less flexible than "Top One" manufacturer, i think has same width as "Top One", looks slightly better than "Top One" shoe, the logo on the shoe is "feiyue" as opposed to "feivue" (notice the 'y' looks like a 'v') that the "Top One" shoes have. The shoe model is 501.
Top One - Also produced shoes since way back, these are the original shoes that shaolin monks and martial artists in china have been using, the outsole has a green triangle on the bottom, the outsole is thinner and more flexible than the "DaFu" shoes, the logo looks like "feivue" ('y' looks like a 'v'). The shoe model is 511. I have also seen high top "Top One" shoes with a red triangle on the bottom on aliexpress.

Feiyue was plagiarized by a french company. Using a Chinese brand which was originated from the idea of chairman mao was absurd. There's no such thing as feiyue language in french. Feiyue was the brand since chairman mao era. Feiyue brand must be protected and must be listed as intangible brand of china as it has already 90 yrs. Feiyue started as a military shoe company and started manufacturing rubber shoes when they have many supplies of rubber. Feiyue wasn't a french brand.

You are correct. As the story goes...
The original creator & producer of Feiyue is DaFu. DaFu started as a Tire Company but got into shoe manufacturing because of their access to exorbitant amounts of rubber. DaFu binds their shoes by literally baking them, which is one of the reasons their brand/ version remain superior to the French & other Knock Offs. During the time the classic version (red blue stripes) came out DaFu was primarily making military shoes (military demand died out in late 1950s) and that shoe is actually inspired by the military shoe DaFu was making at that time; although Feiyue's first shoe was marketed & sold in 1920s. The name of DaFu's creation (Feiyue) comes from the Great Chinese Military General Yue Fei (1103 to 1142). Yue Fei was posthumously named Wumu by Emperor Xiazong (1169) & again later granted the posthumous noble title "King of É" by emperor Ninzong (1211). Yue Fei was well trained in military strategy, the 108 weapons of war, and many other styles of learning including Emei Dapeng Qigong & was said to have mastered & demonstrated extraordinary abilities, some even described those abilities as _supernatural._
When China opened its market to the world in the 80s, DaFu was then competing with the likes of Nike, Converse, Adidas, and such, and soon found themselves bankrupt, and at which time they chose to sell the rights of Feiyue to two men (Wansheng & Qinlong).
In 2005, Patrice Bastian (French Owner of rights to Feiyue, Feiyue International LLC) learned of the shoe while Training in Shanghai & saw Feiyue's potential in the world marketplace & bought the rights to Feiyue, but instead of buying from the actual owners, he bought from a contractor (a licensed manufacturer) & since the True Owners, including original creators never registered for an International Trademark for the Feiyue brand, and Bastian did, Bastian won the suit that was filed against Him in a France Court by DaFu. The win gave Bastian the rights to the actual name & restricted DaFu to selling their version, the original version, to China only. In the words of the owners (DaFu), "From an Intellectual Property perspective, it had a negative impact on us, but in terms of brand development and reputation, I think it's helpful."
Now DaFu has rebranded themselves to differentiate themselves from the French version of Feiyue by putting DaFu on soles with red circle (DaFu) & writing Dafu on Tongue & Inside the shoe.
in 2014, the French Version was sold to BBC International a US based footwear company.
So as it goes, DaFu owns the rights to Feiyue in China (Manufacturing licenses are also granted to Chinese company that sports the TOP ONE logo with green triangle on bottom) & the French version, now owned by BBC owns the rights at the world level, except China.
As a 27 Year Veteran Martial Artist, I personally lean to the originals, which are constructed to support MA training. As Enso Owner has noted: French version is more "fashion" focused. They are less flexible, less durable & thus less suitable for training.
      Feiyue (pronounced Fay-Yoo-Ehh).
The Feiyue journey is truly a BitterSweet one.

Don't want to piss in your cornflakes but first of all, you pronounce Feiyue wrong. It's Feiyue not Feiyu.
Second, all the feiyue are made in Shanghai and there's no such a thing as fake Feiyue.
You're selling Feiyue shoes with a 'green' triangle. These shoes are made for the French and international market and cannot be sold within China.
The red dot Feiyue, is called Dafu Feiyue, and has a round sole, instead of the flat sole that is produced for the French market. The red dot Feiyue can only be sold within China.
You can buy the Dafu Feiyue for 30 RMB. That's about 21 Pounds.
    You're selling it for 23 Pounds, that's 200 RMB...

We can buy green triangle Feiyue here in China, they called Dabowen Feiyue. In my opinion, better quality than Dafu Feiyue(the red dot one).
