Rescuers Nearly GIVE UP On Entangled Seal

- Denzil "The Flash" is the first one to reach the seals - he quickly nets the target, it seems to be the only entangled seal in this group. She has a smelly wound, but the entanglement is so deeply embedded in her skin that the rescuers cannot see it, they can only feel it with their hands. The rescue attempts are causing her pain, but without help, she would eventually suffocate or starve to death - fishing line is designed to do this. The rescuers do something they NEVER do: they give up and decide that they cannot help this animal.
They release her - and just before she is back in the water, Denzil spots a tag - they can finally access the entanglement! Within seconds, she is back in the net, the rescuers find the entanglement, cut it, and gently pull the fishing line out of her flesh. 🦭

Never give up guys, how Denzil spotted the tag is unbelievable. Wally's expletives tell us the relief he felt and that of all of you. Beautiful work guys and hopefully a fast recovery for a relieved seal.
Not surpring, considering Denzil was completely focused on locating a viable break in the skin to secure the line. You could see he didn't want to concede defeat. Really goes to show their dedication to each individual case.

It is amazing…..Denzil runs like the wind and has superior vision….mind you they ALL have superior vision! Great work again guys! I swear Wally was a wrestler in a previous life, the way he wrangles those seals into a position where they cannot move.
What is a "tag" exactly and how is the line so deep inside the seal?
@@shovanabajracharya The "tag" is the loose ends of the line or rope hanging down. It indicates where the knot is, so if you find the "tag" it's easier to remove the line or rope safely without hurting the seal. When a seal is entangled for a while, the line gets tighter as the seal grows or gains weight and cuts into the flesh. At some point the skin around the wound will start to grow back together and grows over the line - thats how the line got into the seal.

When Denzil spotted the tag on the shoulder, I literally started crying, and said "thank you Lord!" Honestly I almost never cry at these videos, but just watching Denzil throughout, I could see he wasn't going to give up. When everybody else was agreeing it was time to let her go, Denzil would not stop looking for a way in, and I knew he was going to find it. Such faithful devotion to the wellbeing of these creatures. It's beautiful and moving.
And now my tears are flowing too.

Oh my godfather, that was a suspenseful rescue. That poor seal must have been in so much pain. Thank you so much for continuing to try to find a way to at the very least release the tension in the knot. We done for continuing despite the smell and difficulty.
Thank goodness Denzil spotted the tag! I tell you what, that seal is definitely one of the luckiest on the beach today/yesterday. It's just after midnight here in Sydney.

think about what these guys are up against. 10 to 20 minutes to spot a problem, catch the target, diagnose the issues, treat the problem, and release, all on a uncooperative and strong animal. Bravo dudes.

that was a bad injury, but you were able to pull the line out. hope the seal is able to heal quickly. must have been painful to pull that line out, but a big relief to finally get it removed. excellent teamwork

Compared to how long that line was around and in that seal I think this was no time. Hopefully she'll heal up and have a long life that'll also make this brief shock feel like no time too.

imagine the feeling of that line inside your body cutting you with every move and breath and then feeling it release and sliding out.... blah !!!!!!! so much unnecessary pain and suffering !!!! well done team !
Yeah, and as they are removing, its moving inside your body in the muscle and fat and the relief when it’s all out.
In the short to medium term, it probably hurt a lot more than normal. Pulling it out of partially healed and inflamed tissue would cause a lot of new damage. Now, the wound would have a chance to heal and clear the infection, so medium term she is going to recover and the wound close up.
It's very touching how the group of seals in the background were watching, concerned for their friend.

just been some old rescues you are so amazing and been doing it for such a long time so dedicated rather watch this than other things this is my TV.
That would have been sore, but I think in the water it would have made some moves and realized the tension had gone, freedom, once it heals that seal will be full of overdue joy

Great job team !!! To help with the smell, being a cop in the USA many of us carry a small tube of Vicks Vaporub with us in case we encounter something smelly (dead body etc. ) just put a small dab under your nose and you just smell the Vicks, hopefully that product is available in your area.
What good advice. I hope they add a tub of Vicks to their toolbox
It seems word is somehow spreading around the seal community about OCN's work and they're now attracting seals from further afield to take advantage of their excellent, free disentanglement services.

What a drama, I was nearly loosing my mind seeing what impossible situation it was and I could see poor seal dying in water because blood poisoning as gangrene would start to consume her tissue. Incredibly repulsive taught that she might be lost because some idiot was throwing fishing line in the water. Thanks guys you are truly saviour of the seals. All the best to absolutely all of you and regards from Berlin.
