That challenge to read books only by non-males is a great idea! In september, I did something similar, in which I read books by non-white authors and I really liked it and want to do again this year.
I tried doing this once to be better read...got disappointed cause I picked up books which were over hyped because they fit a demographic....however after checking authors I read i found there were a fair few female and nonwhite authors, and it shocked me that those wishing to celebrate non white or cis men authors ignore amazing authors such as N.K.Jemisen. I say find look for unique books or smaller books first then check the author :)
@@PsychicsRfake456 I realised that when I was not caring about the race of the author I was reading mostly white ones, when there were plently of non-white authors that I also wanted to check out, so I made myself do it and I don't regret it one bit! I think the secret is making sure that the premise of the book is interesting to you, rather than reading a book just because that author is non-white. That obviously won't work as well.
Great way to get a taste for different cultures and hearing from authors with really different ideas, coming from such different backgrounds. It can be super refreshing to read something totally new and unique like that
I just got into reading as a hobby. I’ve only read like 15 books in my life and most were in school. So far in 2021 I’ve already read 3 books and I loved them. Now I’m reading “to sleep in a sea of stars” and I love it. My goal is 25-30 books by the end of 2021. I just want to say thank you for helping me find this hobby and helping me find great books you’ve recommended!
I read 56% Sci-Fi, 28% Fantasy, 4% Horror, 4% Thriller and 4% Dystopian. 2020 is also the first year I read more male than female authors, but only by one book.
I'm a very simple gal, my goal is just to read. Since i'm on a reading slump (funny that when the pandemic started was when i read the most), if i read some books, i'll be satisfied.
Have you tried reading some really simple reads to get back into it? Something like Kings of the Wyld or Poppy War or even the Witcher? Might just get your juices flowing again and all easy to get through and great
This year was the first year I actually bought books. I usually only read from my library, which I love. Thanks pandemic. It took my library like 4 months before they started offering curbside pickup.
I read 130 books in 2020. I was laid off for 5 months because of COVID. When I’m stressed I read to escape reality. My most surprising stat was of those 130 81 were female authors! 😁
I feel like a really fun challenge would be to read one book from every year of your life - from your year of birth until the present. Depending on your age, this would probably be a challenge that would last longer than a year (for sure for me because I'd be reading 51!). I think I've just talked myself into doing this. I may read the best selling book of each year, or just chose one that looks interesting. I think it will be interesting to see how the popular genres and writing has changed. Good luck to you for all your new challenges!
Hey Em, I was wondering if you could make a video about your favourite audiobooks? I more and more enjoy listening to them while working and I know I can always trust your recs ☺️💕
I want to read 80-ish books in 2021 but I only set 55 books on goodreads because I dont want to put pressure on myself. I definitely will focus on reading thrillers and books on my physical tbr as much as possible ^^
Gender and format 🥳 at first I wrote "genre" and it looked odd but I thought that yeah strane but it means male/female 😂 finally someone wrote "genre, gender" and it clicked 😂
One of my post anticipating videos every year ❤ I always want to start making stats but each year I forget it at some point and I'm left only with goodreads 😅
I have a list of about 32 books, most of which I own and haven't read, and a few that are coming out this year that I'm excited for (The Galaxy and the Ground Within!!!) that are my goal to read by the end of the year. I read 42 books in 2020 so this doesn't leave a TON of wiggle room but I feel pretty good about it.
I hit 102 books for 2020 solely due to my job being closed for a few months, so I’m setting an overly optimistic goal of 60 for 2021. But I’m starting the year in a slump. I’ve started 3 books but haven’t gotten past the first chapter of any of them. 😭 As far as stats go, I don’t often pay attention to them, but I do like the pages read and average book length from goodreads. I hit 37k pages and my average book length is 352 pages.
I read 64 books last year and my goal was 60 (after starting at 24, then 50, then 60). I've set it at 60 again this year. I'd love to see your challenges in advance so we can join in if we want to!
I was interested in my stats and was surprised (& pleased!) over half my reads were from my library or borrowed from family. I was also surprised my most popular format was e-book (43%) follow by audio (32%) and only a small amount of physical (25%). Most popular genre was also fantasy (25%), followed by thriller/mystery (21%) , contemporary/romance (18%) and then a mix of other things. I also had a massive reading slump (although mine was between August and November) where I did not read a thing! Overall my number of books was half what it was the previous year - really struggled to focus this year. Hopefully I'm out of it for 2021 though.... fingers crossed.
I did that! My goal was to read 200 books/my height and weight in books. I only managed to read like 138? I think. But I beat my height by like 10 inches. I did count graphic novels/comics. Trade paperbacks yes, single issues no.
I want to read more diverse and more books from different countries (not just from english-speaking countries). Hoping to get more into high fantasy. I will also (inspired by you) try and read some of the winners and nominees from the goodreads' choice awards :)
reading challanges for 2021 I wanna read 75 Books I want to read a book a day for a month, maybe in August because I have time off finally finish Tokyo Ghoul:re that was something I wanted to do last year finish more series!
I don't really have any reading goals for next year other than the Goodreads challenge (24 books), but I made my own stats for this year's reading. I only read 20 books and only started in August and I started AND reread the same series this year, so the stats are like, a mess, but they're still stats! docs.google.com/document/d/1wP1l6F4ze8oQ0qKRqXFdTiEe2Go6UkZd1myRya-jexw/edit?usp=sharing
you can find it on your goodreads profile! under your bookshelves, just click on stats then click on the orange bar for the year you want and it shows your star rating breakdown. :)
Last year I got to about 70 books (I had just discovered graphic novels which definitely push the number up, but it's still reading, right?) and I was so proud of myself for finally getting back into reading in a more consistent way. This year, I couldn't even get to 15. And my average rating is 2.9, which is just so sad:( I do hope I can get back on track and find books that make me fall in love with reading again, I'm not giving up!
I read 62 books last year and only 3 were by women. I will rectify this by reading 4 books by women this year. It's gonna be tough but with everyone's support i think I can do it.
I'll post the picture of me and the pile of books this weekend on my IG (instagram.com/bookswithemilyfox/)
I used to read 2-3 books a week and stopped when I got to college. I finally got into it and read 18 books in December. It felt so good.
Same happened to me in 2019! After graduating I started picking books up again and read 25. In 2020 I read 100+ books. Freaking university lol
I would LOVE to be able to do that. I’m a 1-2 a week kinda guy. I might have to up my game💪🏼
I think the graphs from The StoryGraph are way better - you can also make (public) reading challenges!
I definitely agree with this!! Love seeing those stats
This is like one of my FAVOURITE videos of the year!! Love it!
I swear evey booktuber posted today
Really enjoyed listening to the statistics - It's always so satisfying! Haha
Am absolutely obsessed with reading stats!
I loved your one week one shelf challenge. I'm looking forward to it.😁
That challenge to read books only by non-males is a great idea! In september, I did something similar, in which I read books by non-white authors and I really liked it and want to do again this year.
ooo i want to try both those challenges

My Emily...how you've grown. 12k views when I watched this. I'm so happy for you!
I love stats videos, and I found very interesting the last part (the pile and the titles that you read in 2020) :), can't wait for the 2021 goals!!!
This is always my favourite video of the year!! Good luck in 2021

FEMALE AUTHOR you may not have heard of: Sayaka Murata, she wrote "Convenience Store Woman". It's a short book.
For a stat-lover, I think you should definitely try Storygraph :D

I love geeking out on my reading. I make my own color-coded pie charts for genres I've read. I rely on Goodreads to keep track of my pages.

Okay but did you read your height?
I really liked the one week one shelf challenge.
Goals this year!
Read 40 books
Beat last years page count of 14,500 (ish)
Read a new series!
Read for at least 2 hours a day
I want to start reading 2 hours a day as well!!! Probably before sleep.
What's your favorite stats? I always love genre and looking at how many pages the books I read have!
i love seeing the total pages too! i also love the books per month and seeing what percent of the whole year they are each month
Not a stat, but the book rundown at the end was nice.
Specifically this year my favorite stat was book by month. Also, loved your monthly challenges.
Gender and format 🥳 at first I wrote "genre" and it looked odd but I thought that yeah strane but it means male/female 😂 finally someone wrote "genre, gender" and it clicked 😂
I am always surprised by the "most popular" and "least popular" stats on Goodreads
One of my post anticipating videos every year ❤ I always want to start making stats but each year I forget it at some point and I'm left only with goodreads 😅
I should be working on my powerpoint for a lecture by I’m here instead and I have no regrets😄🧡
I had the same thing at the beginning of the lockdown, March was horrible but in April I read like 15 books XD
My goal is 8 books a month! I also set up a book bingo in my journal with a bunch of tropes and unread genres. We'll see how it goes!
Omg yay the video I’ve been waiting for since December!! It’s 3am here and I have work tomorrow but I’ll watch it now

Audio books are the secret to hitting those big numbers 😉
Goals for this year: read more indigenous authors! I read quite a few this year and every single one was AMAZING.
Love your current schedule.thanks
My favorite video of the year!
Came here after I just subscribed!
Where do you get your stats from? I'd so love to see mine for last year, but I'm not sure what app have you used? ✨
I have been waiting for this!! I've been refreshing your page so much! lol
Oooo killing the thick book game!
that kind of video always inspires me!

Do you happen to use any reading habit tracker apps on your phone to track and check everyday's read? I think they help conquer reading slump
I love when you do this video! What a great year of reading
The dip in my books per month graph is also very similar to yours... I read 10 books in January, 15 in February, and then 3 in March 😂
Hot damn those are some good numbers! Your channel is great btw, I hope to grow mine to your level one day! Looooonnngg way to go!
reading challanges for 2021
I wanna read 75 Books
I want to read a book a day for a month, maybe in August because I have time off
finally finish Tokyo Ghoul:re that was something I wanted to do last year
finish more series!
I thought there were supposed to be 6 books in the Wayward Children series and i was told recently there will be 10.
I read a lot of non-fiction and I don't know if I should number the last pages where I find the explanation and notes. Should I?
If you spend time reading them why wouldn't you?
@@iodoario684 I feel like I'm cheating 🤣

Does Goodreads track all these stats, or do you guys keep your own spreadsheet?
Emily has her own stats I believe as well as goodreads one’s. She told about it more in her last year’s similar video
Hi, could you tell me where did you find the stat at minute 6:07? Is it on Goodreads?
I would move to know as well
you can find it on your goodreads profile! under your bookshelves, just click on stats then click on the orange bar for the year you want and it shows your star rating breakdown. :)
I set my goodreads goal to 50 and i wanna do the buzzword challeng from booksandlala
I don't think goodreads takes into a account books you don't rate. I could be wrong tho. I know on the book page they don't count them
"1 rOMANce" Haha, I love that consistency 😂
Woohoo! Been waiting for this video 🙂
my least popular book only had 16 other people shelving it that year 😬
I like big floppy books and I cannot lie 😂 my paperback edition of all three lord of the rings books is soooo floppy and chonky. It’s my favorite
10/10 love it video
I love stats
What is ARC?
Advance Reader Copy.
Basically a copy of the book before its published! Website like Netgalley can give you access to some!
