problem is- after 20 seconds, it makes you lift your head up for "safety". It stops showing you the compass until you look up. so- you don't get to just bury your head and follow the numbers.
Love the quality of this review, visually and information-wise. I think the compass feature is a game changer. My last sprint-tri had me swimming 885 meters for the 750 course, and I sighted quite often. I lost probably 1:30-2:00 for that distance. I’d pay for the membership to train a few months with the compass and to use it in the race, just to get a better time (crazy, I know). I searched FORM’s website and they have little to nothing on the compass feature. Sure, it’s probably niche, but this niche market will pay $$ for a couple of watts on the bike. Come on FORM, hype this up! Hopefully you can do a review on that compass feature! Thanks for the excellent video!
It's kinda like driving a Tesla on autosteer. the goggles make you lift your head up every 20 seconds or so or it stops showing you the compass display. and at least with my head rolling- the display moves around a bit. is it helpful? sure. but it's not perfect. that said - the goggles work really well.
Awesome video as always Matt. Such great production value. FORM may ape your b-roll footage. Really interested in the compass feature. I lose about 20 sec per 100m in open water, which I chalk up to no wall turns and not going straight. Would I pay $15 for one month leading up to and for the race to get some time back? Heck yeah. Looking forward to your compass testing video 😉
I just HATE the subscription business model.... but I am really tempted on buying these goggles regardless. Not being a very good swimmer, I might even pay that huge price point and that horrible subscription. Living in a 3rd world country, that price point really seems high
Me too! I'm not a fan of subscription based prices. Sadly, I don't see it changing for FORM any time soon. At least they're adding a lot of value for what you're paying. Coaching, workouts, the head position stuff and now this swim straight feature. 🤷♂️
Another excellent review Matt. I have to say that the swim straight compass feature could be a real game-changer for me personally. And this is coming from someone, who go so lost in an Ironman swim, I ended up covering 5K in the water.
@@mlegrand Absolutely no offence taken sir. I made it out of the water with just 11 mins before cut-off!!! When I looked at my GPS track later, it looked like a pice of broken glass, rather than two nice round ovals!!! I really like the way that they've picked up on using compass bearing, too. That would be really useful for anything long-distance.
Interesting technology... I don't know if that would be too distracting or just useful enough to desensitize myself for the data viewing features. Another great review, Matt.
nice hopefully down the road i can get this but first new edge and watch upgrade I am looking forward to open water swim swim straight... for some race starts i seen folks go crazy! happy training
External HR lika Polar Verity Sense has got a advance like as you can use it with another sports. I am very interested compare HR between Form Swim 2 and Form Swim 1 with Polar verity sense. Additional add HRM SWIM or HRM Pro Plus to comparison. I know that it is silly question, but it doesn't give me peace: Can you connect Polar Verity Sense to Form Swim 2?
I haven't tried that but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to still connect this to the Verity Sense. And good point about the using the Verity for a wide variety of other sports.
Man 14hrs of battery is a lot. Wonder if cutting that down to 8-10 would help with some of the size. I definitely need the swim straight feature, it would definitely save me a minute or two while racing.
Good point on the battery. What if they took that to the extreme. If it was only a 2 hour battery, could they streamline the goggles even more. I'm looking for less depth and more peripheral vision. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I think bad customer service is also good for people to know about but I'm not sure this is a fair representation of FORM's customer service. But I've been wanting to explore customer support on this channel more. Seems like an overlooked but super important metric to cover for people. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Hmm ive had nothing but great customer experience w them. In fact my first pair's lcd conked out after about a year. They sent me a new one for free (I live in SEA so this was a great surprise). This was about a year ago though. Havent had issues/any reasons to contact them since. It'd be a shame if their CS has fallen that far since then. I've been very happy customer since the product's launch btw. In fact I'm grandfathered into their plan wherein I don't even need to pay for the annual subscription (i do though to get the headcoaching and custom workout plan stuff).
I've been extremely impressed with FORM's swim analytics tools. I think they're some of the best in the industry but Garmin is hard to beat in that regard and I don't remember seeing CSS on the FORM Swim goggles anywhere.
I think it is a better option to use an external polar optical hr monitor for the following reasons: 1- can use it in other sports 2- proven quality and reliability 3- can adjust the position for better comfort or better data 4- one less point of failure and cheap to replace if hrm is broken out of warranty I believe that for people who are really serious about improving their swim and/or are data lovers and money is not a serious obstacle, a combination of form swim goggles and eo swimbetter sensors is a must.
Was afraid the new version would have a cool new feature that the current version did not. Mine work just fine with Polar Verity. The only way I might upgrade is if Form offers a significant discount for current model owners.
Really good points Jazz N Roll. I have a review of the EO SwimBetter sensors coming up next week. That is some very cool tech! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand I am looking forward for your EO review. I was close buying them with a black friday discount, but didn't. I have my own view which i will share under your review.
Damn just bought a second hand pair of the Swim 1 just a couple of days ago. Not sure if I caught in the video but what's on push off/tumble turns. Does still leak if its not put on tightly?
Everyone is different when it comes to the fit of these but I had issues with fast acceleration with the first iteration. Most of these updates are coming to the FORM Swim 1 so you might have still gotten a good deal there. 👌
@@ktech4246 - It seems better to me. I didn't try diving but I don't think it fair too well to something like that. They still have a lot of depth compared to normal goggles.
@@mlegrand I have a coach, so he has all my data on Trainingpeaks. He uploads the structured workouts to my account, so, to pay an additional amount of money just to see my workouts on the screen is just and absolutely crazy. Imagine buying a Garmin or Apple Watch, and having to pay a suscripción so the watch can showcase the workouts 🤣🤣. My god.
Here's the best place to buy the new FORM Smart Swim 2: amzn.to/3xja0xz
The swim straight feature sounds like a game changer for triathletes 👍
I know right? Seems almost like cheating.
Are form allowed in races?
@@DannyPimienta - It would depend on the race and the race director but most of the major race organizations have said it was good to go. 👍
