Throw that boat anchor in the scrap metal bin and get a junkyard 5.9 magnum , they come stock with a roller cam , 9 to 1 compression , 1.92 valves and light weight pistons , with a holley 750 , aluminum intake and long tube headers they will pull 300 plus hp all stock .
You something very important about the rocker shaft. The notches at the ends go a certain way. I have 2 360's and 1 is built the other is the engine from my '79 Lil Red. The other is for my other plain '79 D150. That one I had bored only .020 and back with stock cast iron pistons and rings. Cam for both is Mopar Performance 268/272. Heads one I put J castings and the other gets L castings. I have the oe heads but changed both. As the for the 2.02 heads. They are the LA W2 heads. Unless racing the 2.02 valves simply are not needed.
The 340 engines used 2.02 valves in the X and J heads from 68 thru 71, 72 and 73 340 engines used 1.88 valves. 2.02 valves make a huge difference in torque in power.
Look guys I'm building a performance 318 and I have hit the books on this as well as watched a lot of live dyno tune work. This show they did what the average guy would do. And yeah on the ground in a car this thing Maybe pulls 230 whp. There is a part 2 where they add heads, a better cam and a bigger carb. It makes 67 more horse. But if you do that in a shop... your talking a about another 4k over doing a build like this one being about 6k parts and all. My carb is the same 600. Why?... it's daily and it has Annular boosters. I am running it with a 1in tapered 4 hole spacer to help flow and volume. I'm running the air gap because it's usually good for about 3hp over the stealth in average across the range. My cam is a Melling stage 2 214/224 duration .443/.465 lift 112 lobe. Some of you are like WHY?... again daily. The 6 pak cam for stock small and big blocks was 1 size smaller than this one with less lift. But I'm only running the ported 318 heads with 2.02/1.60 valves and the OE style duel springs. So no torque monster cam. Exhaust.... sorry guys again the car is an A body valiant. Sanderson shorty 1.5 primary tube to a 2.5 collector is all that will clear the bay. So even with 2.5 inch pipe running an X pipe and glass packs the car MIGHT put 215 ish at the wheels. We will see. This was an actual honest everyman build. And even slapping a 750 on there will only make what this did once you put an air cleaner on it. Even with a K&N extreme flow you lose 5 horsepower from open for most people. All these shows lie. As do the builders. I have run into so many shops and guys on my build who have never chassis dynoed their finished work. So you guys are quoting huge guess numbers shops pretty much make up off shows like this that just want to sell parts 😑
and? what were the cam's specs? was it at least a 270 class cam? or was it some weak-ass stock replacement? /Budget build, the same intake, comp cams 270 cam.or a generic cam with a duration of 224@.050 and a lift of at least .460" "budget build" would be at least an intake gasket match and a 3 angle valve job.
They also used dished pistons which means the compression ratio isn't much better than stock about 8:1. Flat tops would have brought it closer to 9.5:1.
These guys are clueless about building a 360 mopar , all the wrong way , headers to small , carburetor should be a 750 and use a Hugh's or lunati camshaft with a retro grind . If that were a chevy they woulda made everything bigger , just goes to show you how biased they are .
Why is with Mopar budget builds they always make substantially less power than a Ford or Chevy? If it were a budget Ford or Chevy build the things would be making 400hp for $500 (not quite but the point is plain enough LOL). I mean who uses 1.5" headers and 2.5" collectors on any V8 around 6 liters? Talk about sabotage. In these budget builds a small block Mopar struggles to make 300hp and a big block Mopar struggles to make 400hp time and time again, while any budget big block Chevy or Ford makes 500hp+ for the same money - even with stock parts.
the show is heavily biased towards gm and ford which also happen to be the sponsors of the show. in a real world setting, MOPAR will blow the doors off both gm and ford.
@@ThePaulv12 Yep, I'm still trying to learn why anyone with at least a half of a brain would want the most over rated and underpowered cars instead of a Ford or a Chevy? I guess the old saying is true......Dodge boys have more fun....... with each other 😅😂🤣
I am a simple man... I see Mopar, I click and see monster power made.
Not a huge Mopar fan but, this orange beast is brilliant.
More mopar stuff please! This an old episode
When I was just starting middle school my older brother’s friend down the street had a gold Duster Twister.

Buddy , you meant to say cast aluminum , car engines haven't used cast iron pistons in a long , long time

finally some alpha male content - MOPAR!!!
Mike Galley looks like Shaggy from Scooby Doo in this one.lol
There's a guy rolling around in Salem with an all original survivor yellow feather duster.

What kinda of parts did you use to build this engine, i have a 360 also
Ya I don’t understand y they can’t leave a parts list in the comments
Why did yall re post the same video you made a 3 months ago
man i miss mike.
Here that engine rattling!
That's a '71 grill in a '72 Duster?
72 also had sharktooth grill as an option
@@daddysbrokegarage I never knew that...wikipedia'ed it & you are correct.
Too bad you didn't put a tri-power intake & carbs on it!!

That Duster is sweet but those wheels gotta go!
So does the stupid looking wing🙄
Thank god its not a chitty !!!! I hate flat tappet cams , roller lifters only !!!
