That is a classic Finnish puukko. They are used to all woodworking tasks, skinning and so on. Here in Finland, its very common to carry an axe with puukko when bushcrafting in wilderness. "Why not just carry a big knife?" Because big knife really isn't that good for anything, even if it can do it. If you want to split wood and make logs, axe is best. And when you want to make feathersticks and carve, maybe skin an animal and prep food, puukko is best. So thats what I carry, a puukko and an axe. And you shouldn't be affraid of rat tail tang strenght. If properly made, it can endure even a grown mans weight standing on the handle. I know you have tested it in the past 😉. And about that handle: curly birch is used here alot because its toughness. It doesent crack like normal wood, because its inner structure is so curly, hence the name. Congrats of your 300k followers, may there be more to come! I love your channel and videos!
I've had a Korpi for several years now - it was the knife that got me into Finnish blades and scandi grinds. Great knife, super happy to see it here! Thanks for the videos guys!
Ahti, usually have a little harder HRC than other local knife makers, here are the specs for the carbon blade: 80crv2 : HRC 59, CO-83, Mn-0.57, VO-20, Cr-0.60. they are popular with wood carving especially the smaller Tikka. they keep a good working edge and sharpen easy. Sheath stays tight for as long as you need it, handle has no issues if it is used for carving and general bushcraft tasks, never had one get lose or have any issues. light weight, easy to carry.
I'm actually really happy to see you guys splitting logs in a more traditional manor. (and with a traditional knife) ... I also love extreme testing but I also love learning the ways that people really did things!
There are plenty of affordable knives like this from Finland. The blade of this knife is an ordinary 80crv2 blade from Laurin Metalli, 90% of small knife manufacturers from Finland use their blades.
I recommend using a river stone or pebble as a wedge, it’s silkier and offers less resistance when splitting the wood. It’s also sturdier! Recommend trying 😊
I have not heard of the Korpi, but I have known about Ahti knives for years. I saw their knives when I was searching for my two Woodsknives from Finland. I have several Finnish knives and they are of great quality. I will have to pick one up. Thanks 🎸🔪
The Ahti line of knives are very high quality at excellent price points I have about 6 of their knives from the 210 lukku to their 55 carving knife Battoning with these knives is abuse Use a small hatchet or axe with these knives
Congratulations on hitting 300k .you both deserve it and much more .I am very proud of you ,thank you for all the effort you put into the channel. God bless you and your families. Lee 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
I have a Leuku and 2 of the small 'Woodpecker' from the Ahti brand for years now. The Leuko obviously more expensive but the small 'Woodpecker' about half the price. They make a great combo for the outdoors but obviously the small puukko also as back up or primary fixed blade if you just need to carve and slice smaller stuff.
I got a Vaara a few years ago after seeing Cody Lundin using something similar, great knife for the price and crazy sharp! Glad Ahti are still putting out great knives!
Ahti use a carbon steel by Laurin Metalli. All the Carbon LM blanks I've seen are 80CrV2. I personally own a Lauri PT 95 (in a self made Rimu handle) and it is scary sharp using misc compound on a leather paddle
Woooooah I haven't been able to watch you guys for few months I come back and Marteen turned into Canadian woodworker like what did I miss????😂😂 Great vid as always guys, thank you!💪🤗😀
I challenge your opinion guys ... Best budget bushcraft knife for me is the FLISSA Scandi bushcraft knife I did a simple table top review BUT ive used it and the D2 seems legit. Only $25 D2 steel and has a functional leather sheath. The grind geometry is wicked good and id say it works better than my Garberg ...Also the freaking spine cut my thumb open its crazy sharp. I'd love to see you guys review them. They have green micarta, black g10 and wood handled versions. G10 looks the best . Anyways thats my budget bushcrafter of the year . Oh and its full tang baby !
Congrats on 300k 🎉 Every time I check your sub count I’m shocked at how low it is I don’t mean that in a bad way but it’s just always surprising you guys don’t have millions of subs considering the quality of your vids and giveaways If the algorithm was a bit nicer towards the type of content you guys make I know you would easily broken a million years ago
Hello Maarten and Mikkie, another good vid, keep up the good work! I'll go to Patreon... Hope all's well with everyone/thing! Be safe and take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 🙏😇👊
I am very interested in getting a puukko from Ahti : undecided on which model, possibly the Korpi but also looking at the Tikka and the Vaara. How did you find the handle on the Korpi?
❤The part of this video 3min 3 seconds if you look at the top of the handle it looks like it a full fishtang and hammered through a tiny brass plate. So its hard to think this is a rat tang puukko. Its really worth 60 euro.
I like Finnish stuff. I own 4 x Finnish rifles. Sako and Tikka. They are awesome. Just need to get me a Finnish knife. Plus genetically I am 1% Finnish - not bad for an Anglo Saxon 🇫🇮 🇳🇱 🇳🇿
Nice boyz, the only time I ever had moose meat it was given to me by a friend who got a hunting permit abroad and had to ship all the meat back. Consequently, they didn't hang the animal long enough and the meat was extremely bloody haha but delicious. Nice looking knife :) it's not better than a DBK knife tho, also got the BPS Bushmate after a quick sharpening it is very sharp, just working out how I'm going to modify the beautiful leather sheath to hold the knife upside down.
i just got the 140mm ahti leuku and i love it, im considering getting the longer 180mm leuku next and the really short leuku style blade. mine also came INSANELY sharp, but the leuku did have a microbevel. but i prefer a microbevel since a normal zero grind scandi is pretty fragile

I’ve been carrying a korpi for the last 2 years and it has not let me down so far…I LOVE that little knife.
Great show !!! Thanks again

Yeah, for around 15-20€ you can make your own. I like them a lot.
'My hands are numb because of whacking my wood all day' That line is already classic and it can go on the next DBK merchandise for 2024 😂😂
Holy shit! I would buy and wear that t-shirt! :D
It's funny because it's true.
Everybody needs a hobby!!
Ahti makes one of the best budget puukkos! Juhla and Vaara are the two best models they produce!
PS Ahti uses 80CrV2 and 12c27
Watching Maarten's reaction at 0.25 the speed is hilarious.
I'm sorry your pain brings us joy.
Great nice and great video guys!!
I have heard of them and have had several for many years now. They really are awesome.
So funny and that knife looks great! Congrats on 300k lads, deserved! 👍
I recommend using a river stone or pebble as a wedge, it’s silkier and offers less resistance when splitting the wood. It’s also sturdier! Recommend trying 😊
Do you chip it into an edge or just pound a round stone?
Lauri metall also making those legends like jaakaripuukko and skrama
And woodsknife blades
@@SASHAB0YLaurin metalli honestly make most finnish knife companies blades. There are so many they are hard to list
I got an Ahti knife during the pandemic. It's really great! Very easy to obtain in the US at ragweed forge store.
I bought my Ahti Vaara like 10 years ago and i love it.
I have not heard of the Korpi, but I have known about Ahti knives for years. I saw their knives when I was searching for my two Woodsknives from Finland. I have several Finnish knives and they are of great quality. I will have to pick one up. Thanks 🎸🔪
I bought an ahti leuku about 5 years ago and i must say that it is still one of my favorite knives in my collection
Pair of legends - top dollar entertainment and really helpful. Thanks chaps, keep on keeping on
I own an Ahti Tikka, truly awesome little knife. Much nicer than a Morakniv Eldris, IMHO. Awesome vid as usual!, take care of that wound!

You have to try the brusletto rondane
Big fan. I especially love when the boys do their movie American accents. Sort of a mishmash of Southern and Western dialects. Hilarious.
and the best thing is, in our ears it sounds like we're doing a flawless job at it!
@@DutchBushcraftKnivesI wish we sounded as cool as you guys 🤣
Congrats guys on 300k subs! Maarten I hope you don’t get a belly infection, because I like you. 😁
Congrats on 300K guys!! Been with you all for many years and cant wait to see what you all bring out next!
This is my favorite knife, has been for a very long time. It's because of its aggressive cutting
The "Woodsknife Traditional Puukko Knife 77" by Varusteleka is pretty much the knive, but got restocked just today😉
After all this time these guys still put a smile on my face. Thanks, fellas…🫡
Cheers mate!!

500k soon lads. Just keep at it ! Legends!
Oh yeah! Ahti makes really nice QPR Puukkos. I love my Ahti Tikka. GREAT neck knife!
Cheers from Finland!
Just curious, what is QPR ?
@@SliceyMcChop hi! Quality price ratio...
You should always use your thumb to push out the blade from a tight sheath, that way the range of motion is small enough for you not to hurt yourself.
I got a Vaara a few years ago after seeing Cody Lundin using something similar, great knife for the price and crazy sharp! Glad Ahti are still putting out great knives!
Ahti my beloved...I'm sold!
PLEASE keep doing your videos! Best part of my week!
I have this, too. Since 3-4years. Amazing
The poke in the eye was great.
The Ahti Juhla is also a beautiful blade ❤
Congrats on 300k my boys! I'll still be here when you hit a million!
YT recommends you again. Well done bois
Its always a great time when you guys have a new video love this one keep up the good work
Also this video came out one day before my birthday 😂
Congratz on 3K guyz! 😁👍🏼😁👍🏼
Wow! For once I got ahead of the DBK boys, got one of these a couple months ago and absolutely love it.

micky had me of guard with the i like this meat 😂
I love making Puuko knives, generally Enzo blades. Scandi grind.
do you think Brisa puts a little too steep grind for the scandi models? I had to convex my necker 70 to a lower angle so it could even whittle.
@@thymii I prefer a flat grind on the necker and similar sized models for that reason.

Lol i cut my Thumb with the fresh sharpend Kansbol 2 Years ago :D Almost cuttet the Tendon.
I have a Brisa one that i think uses the exact same blade blank. Pretty good.
