This relates the music to the floor pattern very clearly, but of course the dance then becomes much faster, and, I think, more fun. This makes the Dance faster and suitable to a fast Music. 2 The composer is Marin Marais, from an opera "Alcyone", written in the same year 1706 when Feuillet released his Recueil. There are fine recordings on UA-cam, e.g. with Jordi Savall
Would the dancers be able to keep up at twice the speed? I read that a lot of dance music used to be played a lot faster as performance pieces than when there were dancers.

I've only ever heard this music at this speed. Another name for this dance is Female Sailor.
