That's an exceptionally high Patreon tier for me, but I appreciate the irony and figure it's worth the experiment. So here you go. Thank you for the inspiration. Let's see if it actually works. I just set it all up, and even quoted you in there :)

@@Physicsduck I want to support you so badly. I'd gladly pay the $19.20/month but it's an expense I can't do. Heck the $10/month might put me under. But I watch your videos and recommend them to everyone yes EVERYONE. Even people who don't matter. Anyways thanks for everything you do. I had no idea you'd been in prison. Doesn't matter to me other than to say "bad@$$" is so right. This video made me love you more. Keep up the great work and thanks for teaching all the guys in that 💩hole prison system. I hope they too get to see your UA-cam acct and see they too can achieve better.

      @@Physicsduck I feel very honored :)
Your story struck a chord with me because I often feel like I wouldn't be able to be accepted despite my past mistakes & my efforts to change for the better. You are proof that with hard work & dedication, past mistakes can be forgiven & a better life can be attained.
Here's hoping enough people can earn you a years (prison) wage each month ;)
I feel a bit silly; I don't earn enough to put my money where my mouth is. I myself am in a little bit of debt & the IT field doesn't pay what it used to, but I'm clawing my way out.
I've never seen someone with a love of (or addiction to) teaching like yourself.
Keep going Chris! I hope one day you're invited to speak at Open Sauce with the likes of Mark Rober & William Osman.

I'm a convict and a physicist. My last judge literally saved my life, and now I make people's lives better. Thank you for sharing this, and I 100% agree with everything you say. I only share my story when I know I can help people, and if people ask, I'm honest. It's important for everyone to know that there's life after, and it can be a good, constructive, and positive life. My key difference, though, is that I knew I was a criminal. I grew up in Chicago in and around organized crime. I know the wrong I've done, and I have dedicated my life to making the world better.

Chris, I’ve been with you since the 2008 Kalamazoo Geek Group days when I was a freshman in high school trying to figure out what STEM subjects meant in my life. Your science rebel approach is something I’ve adopted as my own and has largely shaped my critical thinking skills and given me the courage to challenge the status quo of whatever I’m working on. I work in the aviation industry now, and I’ve changed the way we plan things by asking “why the heck do we do it this way? We could be so much more efficient.” I’ve since given presentations to our COO and fundamentally changed our planning process for the better through the use and communication of data and statistics.
I’ve caught millions of dollar mistakes because I knew about chemistry, the ideal gas law, welding, and plumbing all at once. I’ve fixed $120K robots that are meant to move $60M business jets around because I knew the right questions to ask. You, and a highly select group of people like you, inspired me on my critical thinking journey and equipped me with the curiosity and courage to elicit real change in the world, and that means the world to me. Thank you.

Years later I found out the sheriff that responded lied to the "victims" and coached them to write matching statements. One person was a witness that only saw the last 1/3-1/2.... The sheriff was retiring the week after my arrest and was bragging about it. That was 2009, so no body cam...

Programmed a PLC for it, built the control cabinet, installed the actors and pneumatic level sensors. And a Sh*! load of trouble shooting, stuff i forgot or clams laying eggs into the level sensors.

The problem is they harass people who can't afford to go to jail for a single day just to get them a small win... but won't waste their time with a big fish on a small win because they only care about taking them down, fully...not enforcing the law equally.

That's a helluva gangster story, Chris. I guess you accidentally proved the maxim that, if you're not REALLY careful, the Internet and Bitcoin will have you "enhancing" life-changing mistakes faster than tequila and handguns.
You've learned your lesson. Now, keep your nose clean and in the future run away from anyone who says "I'm a cocaine dealer" as fast as your legs will carry you.

Section 5324 of Title 31: "No person shall, for the purpose of evading the reporting requirements..." The wording of the law puts the onus of proof on them to prove you did it to obfuscate, your total lack of obfuscation at every level would make that impossible; you spread the deposits because the banks were closed, the times of the deposits would prove this, and the structuring charge would be stricken by any competent defender. Unfortunately for you, no one competent would lower themselves to working for the government. They tried to throw the book at a rich e-criminal, realized how little you actually had, and went into full CYA mode to justify their expenditures. What a bunch of idiotic clowns.

If you're depending on a public defender, you're instantly screwed. Even if they are competent, they're way too overloaded to be able to be effective. And private defense can be bankrupt inducing. (moral of the story... don't piss off law enforcement. they _will_ make your life an unending hell.)

A valid defense like that I something for a trial, but YOU DO NOT TAKE FEDERAL CASES TO TRIAL. PERIOD! Your fate is basically decided before you get near sentencing. You agree to it or right off the hat you add two points to the guidelines for losing acceptance of responsibility. And then on and on. It's rigged.

@jfbeam I had literally ONE conversation with my public defender, and it wad less than 15min before pretrial where I was advised to take the plea. Nice guy, but clearly too busy, and he was new to the system. Unfortunately it's almost always too much to fight this stuff, even when you know you're right. Honestly, I don't think Mr. Boden is quite as innocent as he claims, in that he's smart enough to know that many of the people who were buying btc were doing so for illegal purposes. I don't know all of the case context, but 30 months seems like a long time for the level of harm he claims. Much of that could be from the street level debt collection attempt, though.

Sometimes they'll pile on a heavy sentence just to make an example of someone. It can matter very little how trivially small the actual offense was. I'm not discounting the fact that some people really ought to spend time in prison, but we should wonder how often justice is thwarted by overzealous courts of law.

I just wanted to say that your story lines up with many of the things I've learned in my studies these past few years. Your experience with the US criminal justice system is tragic, but also really interesting and valuable, coming from someone who's learning about criminal justice policy. Thank you for making this video, and I'm extremely happy to see you on the otherside of incarceration. It sounds like you've been out of prison for a while now, but I wish you the best in your reintegration with free society! Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing more of your videos :)

While I cant say I can understand everything you put out (electricity is still magic to me past a basic circuit), I definitely appreciate your enthusiasm to teach and I want to understand more about what you teach. This being my introduction if you will to your past is why I can't stand those that try to demonize people. I have a personal friend that also has had the pleasure of spending his free time, provided to him by a US D.A., behind bars in federal lockup and he is probably been the best dude I know for the past decade. Not only that, but you make it clear that even though you're guilty, you don't regret it.

Yo Chris. if you do see this, a while ago, I was worried that you'd give up on yourself, because I know that's what would've happened to me, had I been in your shoes. I can't begin to imagine the cedar point dwarfing roller coaster you had to endure in these last few years, & problems at the lab before that! You just kept trucking on. You built an institution out of nothing. You brought simplicity to things most people find complex. You express the truth. You made learning a fun experience for people of all ages & backgrounds, you helped the surrounding community & many other folks around the world! That alone is rarer than a steak still grazing the fields. I met you in person for 4 hours & had the greatest day of my life just to finally see you in person after nearly a decade watching your videos. I wish I wasn't so lost for words that day, but I was in anxious nerd shock. I could go on & on about how you made a positive impact, & often in negative situations. You may have imperfections, but you recognize them & take them into account! You taught me many things, & in this one, a bit of humility & self reflection. This paragraph is very small sample, but that's what makes you inspirational. You not only made a difference but sustained it, & that is pretty cool!
