What's crazy is that the Lakers immediately won a chip (making them the winner of this trade by default), only to then not really run it back and then make some of the worst front office decisions to waste AD's prime and the remainder of Lebron's good years.
Like if they had not traded for Westbrook and signed AC and Demar Derozan (which I believe came out to a similar salary situation) they could have contended for 2/3 years.
They could've repeated if AD didn't get injured the following year against the Suns

It's not win-lose vs the two teams. It only matters whether the team gets better/gets pieces for a rebuild or not.
If you look at who Pels got in the long run Pels got a haul. They got BI, CJ, Herb Jones, and Murray. Yes Lakers got a championship but Griffin has done a great job of Maximizing the value.
Lakers got a ring out of it. That’s an instant win. No question.

Ingram rn felt like a great rock for the Pelicans to lean on when Zion wasnt on the floor, also was a great 2nd option to Zion getting the Pelicans to the playoffs. They could be better but I'd say it was an ok trade :)

It worked out because Lonzo ball was going to be awesome the year coming up but his knee which couldn't be foreseen blew out and they also messed up the first surgery. Brandon Ingram is a superstar who just needs to work on his rebounding and assist. Josh Hart, Nakia Alexander Walker, Herbert Jones, and jaxson Hayes all turned out to be solid players. And the Lakers got a ring out of it and Anthony Davis got his first ring out of it also at which I don't believe he would have got in New Orleans

Think abput all go the young player the lakers potentially had to develop into home grown stars. Ima name off a few D"angelo Russel, Julius Randal, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart, Brandon Ingram, Larry Nance Jr., Alex Caruso, Ivan Zubac, Jordan Clarkson and at one point we had Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Those are just the younger players drafted by the lakers not including Kentavious Caldwell-Pope but im pretty sure most of not all of those other guys I named were all drafted by the LA Lakers. Which is fucking bat shit crazy bc most of those guys ended up being decent players on other teams. Great role players which is what you need in order to win chips. Sure you need a couple of core star players but you need depth on the bench period. You need gritty hard nosed defensive role players to come off the bench and do multiple things. Straight swiss army knives. But obviously Lebron coming to the lakers was one of the worst things that coulda happened to my squad. Sure we got our chip in 2020 for KOBE BEAN BRYANT which I couldnt be happier about but at the cost of and entire teams worth of players
