    I had one around 1998
    I traded it in for a Honda Reflex 250 for more power. I still ride the Honda… and really enjoyed the Riva as well.

    I sold my Honda Areo 80 last spring. I also traded 2 Honda spree's (1 running the other parts no titles) for a 93 Riva 125 with carb problems and a title. I made a video of how I replaced the carb with a cheep China carb. It works great. Top speed is 55Mph. I put on over 200 miles this summer. That is a lot when my city is only 4 miles wide. Awesome video. I like short test ride videos. More of the Passing by type and not the ride along.

    Ever had any problems with it shutting off due to overheating?

    • @Garyjorges79
      @Garyjorges79  6 місяців тому

      Nope.. Never had any issues. It could be an electric issue. Sometimes, ignition modules do that on cars. They heat up and shut down and let them sit, and they restart. There is no way to test for that. Just learn from years of wrenching on cars and small engines. Thanks for watching

    Nice one, looks clean! I currently have a 1993 Peugeot Rapido ST50, which is a rebranded Honda Vision NB50. I have had it for 1 1/2 years now, put almost 5000 km on it so far and it's been solid with no serious issues. I really like my moped and the legalities with it simply being a moped (which, due to it's age and my country's old speed limits for mopeds means it is limited to being in bicycle lanes, while still being pretty quick) and not a motorcyle, but a Yamaha Beluga (Riva) or Honda Spacy (Elite), is ultimately the goal.

    • @Garyjorges79

      Yes. Thats why I like Mopeds..You can ride them like bicycle and park them like one too...I like alot of different styles of mopeds/scooters.

    Clean scooter & appreciate the sharing of info.
    I'm in Michigan & just yesterday found a mint condition '92 Riva 125 w/606 miles on the odometer. Very lil' scratches by the headlight. Has a color matched trunk storage on the rack. Listing claims it was indoor storage. Asking $2k for it, which I'm aware they went for $1.3k retail. Sure they not going to budge, if any.
    Back in the days had got a used Honda Spree '84, very low miles & clean. Learned a lot by tinkering & fixing for others. Last one I sold was a Honda Elite 80, think it was a late '80s model which I was good friends w/the original owner. Still kicking myself for selling it to a much younger generation whom sold it or it got stolen, two sided story that still get told to this day. Recently almost bided on a Honda Aero 125 '85 but didn't get any questions answered so I looked elsewhere. It had 4k+ miles on it, very clean.
    What price would you go for on that Riva 125 '92 I mentioned w/only 606 miles original & been indoor storage, supposedly? It appears mint...

    • @Garyjorges79
      @Garyjorges79  4 роки тому +1

      I would try to get it for what you can..Its seems like perfect condition..There going to do nothing but stay at value(2k)and eventually they will go way up in value past what you buy it for now..So there asking top dollar..But they know what they got..So if you want it...Its worth it. Good Investment 👍

      @@Garyjorges79 Appreciate the feedback. Probably go check it out today. Kinda on the fence about wanting the Aero 80, smaller to toss in truck bed & 2t for the pep on launch & getting up inclines. I'm 5' 8.5" & 190lbs, like to tinker & heavily considering a Ruckus w/minor bore to 53cc, sliders, variator, intake/exhaust, & cdi. Really don't care for stretching it, maybe lower seat, 12" wheels w/frnt/rear disc, & flat handle bars. Choices, if I'm not trying to have a garage full of them...😎...

      @@Garyjorges79 Also, from your experiences mechanically, do you find the older Honda's more sound & consistent?
      My Spree was solid, thru & thru. Minor maintenance & just ran. Aware it was a simpler set up. A buddy of mine got his Spree second hand sitting in an exposed shed. Sat in the shop almost the whole summer. Got it, was doing less then 10 mph. I found the muffler gunked up, cleaned & cleared out, adjusted the carb, & he was easily getting 32 miles after. His father shouldn't have left the shop w/it in that condition.

      @@Garyjorges79 Well just a follow-up, got the '92 Riva for $1950. From talking to the guy about several scooters & past history, he insisted that I take it for a spin. He felt words & just looking at it wasn't enough. Did 55mph w/no problem several times. Put 30 miles on since I purchased it & hit about 57mph. It's very smooth, fires up w/very little hesitation, & pulls strong. Came w/a helmet (looks practically new, in & out), original tools w/Yamaha bag, oil looks decent (will still change out), underneath seat look all original (will go thru wiring, he said he replaced the battery), & everything functions accordingly thus far. Will get a service manual asap & look for spare parts scooter eventually. Probably flush the gas out & inspect tank interior. Seems to have been one owner.
      Read mix reviews on universal motorcycle fuel filters. Any brands you tried w/confidence? Wonder if an oil filter can be utilized...

Need, tires, batteries, carbs cleaned and all the other things associated with sitting up for decades. What's your best guess on what to pay for the pair? (They look good in the pics)

      If you have to find the intake hose(big black hose) and take it off and spray in the Black Hose. The Black hose does directly from the airbox to the Carburetor.. Maybe you can access the air box and take out the air filter out and spray down there. It really doesn't matter were you spray in the black hose.. It leads to the carburetor and that is what matters. Give it some throttle when you spray.. It will open up the Butterfly in the Carburetor. Hope I explained it go enough for you to get your scooter up and running.

      Apparently they ran them the same for 17 years, '85 thru '01, & '06. Parts have been plentiful to find for me, new & used. My '92 has been solid thus far & in Nirvana. Stacked up on a few items, so when I tear some things down, will have spare replacement of anything known wearable items due to year age.
      Changed the oil at about 960 miles, replaced all air filters (including rope gaskets) & added 2T oil to the filters, & swapped to higher rated NGK spark plug. The prior spark plug didn't look bad. Been running on Tru Fuel w/a couple of seafoam treatments. Plan to ride on Rec90 fuel during on season & maybe store w/Tru Fuel during off. Got tires & would like to replace wheel valves also.
      Since I been running on Tru Fuel, new spark plug, & dialed the idle down some. Felt it had a lil' too much wheel spin on the stand. Once I burned thru some poor choice gas, its been running strong, 60 - 62 mph(speedo reading). Now, it want to low idle off unless I hold a hint of throttle & let it warm up for 2 minutes. Then it seems the choke is off. Plan to dial that in when I replace the intake manifold, which is showing aged cracks. Maybe taken in additional air. Temporary run a tachometer to see if I can dial the idle to around 1300 - 1500 rpm. Otherwise, overall may have to bump that idle screw back up. Off course I'm doing this while it's warmed up...
