I was recently diagnosed with a nerve condition which affects my strength severely. I couldn't(and still can't) play strats and teles so I bought one on these. I'm playing with a set of 8s and it's become my gigging guitar! Wonderful for the price.

Wowee, I don't think I'd ever be able to play it in tune like that! I'm much too heavy handed both in fretting and picking, I struggle to be light enough for 10s on a 25.5 inch scale. I'm glad you've found a way you're able to play though, makes me think of Tony Iommi's workaround for his fingertip injury.

I'd heard so many good things about them that I bought one a month or two ago. It was instant love! Now I have one of each colour - modding the black one. For the blue one I'm leaving alone, I stuck on some Roto Yellows (10) and a bit of Big Bends Nut Sauce and am having a whale of a time. Intonation was almost perfect straight from the box. I'll probably change out the bridge saddles at some point. Brilliant, brilliant deal and I encourage anyone to pick one up.

Picked up one of these in black last month to mod with my son. I was blown away with how well it feels and performs out of the box. I think I got lucky with mine, because the frets are incredibly smooth on mine. A little clean up on the fretboard was needed, but nothing major. It's the best entry level I've ever played, and it's so good I almost don't want to change anything on it. Almost.

Thank you for this review. So many times I have tried to watch a guitar review on UA-cam, and found it to be a demo of the guitar player's chops instead. These are people showing off. You did play for awhile [ very nice playing, BTW ], but then went into the review itself.
I have found that some cheap [ $100-$200 range ] guitars, if QA'ed properly and set up correctly, with the proper gauge of strings installed, are really great players, and many look really nice, also. I'm a builder and modder of guitars, so I do appreciate a cheap guitar that can be the basis for a very nice build.
A lot of great music was played and recorded on pretty cheap guitars, so it's the player that makes the real magic, and not the instrument.

Just bought one of these at a pawn shop last night for $120 flat. The pickups and wiring will be the first thing to go, sounds muffled especially the bottom end. Yeah it was a pawn shop, but they bought it new, and the plastic was still on the pickups, pickguard, and neck plate. I also got the manual and tools for the truss rod and bridge. More than you would have got from GC. It is essentially right out of the box new, and not a mark on it. It's white of course, so I will have to put my paint and body experience to use, and make it any color but white. While it's apart I am going to upgrade everything! Duncans or Dimarzio's, switchcraft jack and switch, etc. Can't wait!

Yes, it IS the tuners. Mine hold tune faily well, but there is too much play back and forth when tuning up and down. I'm very surprised at how good the pickups sound. Most entry level ceramic pickups are close to being a one trick pony, but these can clean up and get dirty better than most. Almost all of the cheap ones can sound good with gain, distortion, or overdrive, but leave a lot to be desired playing clean. I lucked out and found one for $100.00 at Guitar Center Used. The short scale is FUN

Respray on top of poly finish?

    • @markpell8979
      @markpell8979 Рік тому

@@bushcry1 Edgar, no problem spraying over poly with name-brand rattlecan spray paint compatible with plastic and wood. Follow the directions and get painters' tape to mask off the routed body cavities. Use scissors and an x-acto type hobby knife to cut and trim the tape - it pays to be as neat as possible on this. The great thing on this guitar is that all the electrics and hardware come right off the top of the body using a screwdriver, with nothing to de-solder or detach from the back of the pickguard and control plate. Remove these together and set them safely aside. Take off the neck too (tape off the inside of the neck pocket as paint buildup here can make it hard to reinstall the neck) and the body is laid bare, ready to prep and paint. Do 2 or 3 coats and maybe a clear poly over it for protection and depth, again following directions and maybe watching a few videos to see how others have done it. But don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good on this. When you put it all back together be sure the tiny ground wire is fished back up through the little tunnel drilled by the bridge pickup and is making good contact with the back surface of the bridge plate. No need to solder, just clamp the bare end between the body and bridge when you screw the bridge back on. Strip the insulation back an extra 1/8" or so at the end to be safe and sure you have good ground contact. Very important! While I had mine apart I added shielding to the cavities. You can do this with foil tape, or conductive paint made for this. I got great results and saved money with 2" aluminum foil tape meant for sealing HVAC ducts. Take your time, cut the tape into smaller pieces to make it easier to fit in the nooks and crannies. You'll get better as you go. Use your fingers and a Q-tip to push the tape down tight and conform it to nooks and crannies. Do the back of the pickguard too, just stay back far enough from the edga that it doesn't show from the front when you reassemble everything. While you're at it, polish the frets and oil the fretboard with mineral oil or one of the products from the music store. You have now entered the world of modding guitars in the easiest possible way. Pick a color, have fun and rock on, these guitars are great!

Squiers get such a bad rap.I used to think they were garbage, and then I was gifted one (strat). It was in bad shape, wouldn't keep tune etc. so i took it to a shop to see if they would recommend modding it or just getting rid of it. To my surprise, the guy at the shop did a full set up on it and the guitar sounds awesome now. It keeps tune, even with dive bombs etc. and it blows me away how cheap these things are and how great they sound if you treat them right.

    Hi, 60 Cycle Hum,
I have a Squire Bullet 1 1981, made in Japan and at the
time it was an economical purchase. But it stood the test of time and today I
gig professionally all because of it.
I have heard it said that the Jap Squires of the 1980’s were
made better that anything the USA could manage at the time, and therefore the
reason the Japanese enterprise was shut down. My experience concurs with this view.
My testimony to this that the ‘skunk strip’ on the neck of my very expensive 1996
American Stratocaster came loose, the swap of the Bullet’s neck save the day,
for a T.V. performance, and two years later it is still there. I am so happy
with the combination I don’t really feel the need to refit the repaired original
Strat neck. Remember I play professionally and some ask me about my ‘Frankenstein ‘, but nobody questions
    the sound, --- Hmmmmm---
Marketing is a very powerful tool.
The reason I am commenting here is that I see the machine
heads are very similar to the ones I have, so they will be just as good as anything
on an American Stratocaster. The bridge also looks similar to the 1980’s Squire
Bullet, so I would have loads of confidence in it. I think that the Humbuckers
in your Bullet sound really good, betted than the one’s I had, (long since replaced
with Seymore Duncan’s) but UA-cam's Audio and all that?
So, the only issue I have with your review is that you refer
the Squire Bullets as if they are all bad. While I have seen some trashy Squires,
and have wondered what Fender were doing, generalising should be qualified. Better
knowledge is required for credible criticism, there are a lot of ‘mm’s and haws
    in your presentation.

I can appreciate what you're saying to an extent. Yes, the Fender and Squier Bullet lines from the early 1980s produced some top notch guitars. I currently own a Squier Bullet and previously owned a Fender Bullet, both from the 1982-1984 range.
But, since the reintroduction of the Squier Bullet series in the mid-90s (the Bullet Stratocaster), the released models were all projected as being Squier's most entry level product. While an 80s Fender Bullet will fetch as much as $500 on the used market and a Squier Bullet in good condition will go as high as $250, the Bullet badge in the 90s will be lucky to break $100 on the used market.
So yeah, I do understand what you're saying. Not every guitar with the Bullet badge is awful. Some are decent. The general reputation of new built Bullet series instruments built in the last 20 years, however, has been mostly negative, and is what we were referencing in terms of the current Bullet series Mustang. - steve

Thanks Steve,I take your point! I am of the mind that the new range of Epiphones
Les Pauls at about $300 -400, are excellent, and these will have the reputation
in the future that the 1980’s Squires have.
      Regards Paul

Hey Ryan, all the guitars I have gone thru would take some time but anyway I sold the Japanese Squier Supersonic I have had for quit awhile now, because I just never jibbed with it- hated the pick ups, and Because it was worth someone, I thought sell it, rather than replace the pickups. I have an old 60's Teisco that I love and I picked up a State of The Art guitar from a pawn shop for $30 that I fell in love with once I resoldered it. Anyway, I just got one of these Bullet's in the mail today, due in large part to your endorsement. I got black- but would have loved surf green, too. anyway, tuned it up and played it for a couple minutes- have to get back to work- but so far- love it! like it way more than the Supersonic! I have right away noticed minor cheese grater-ness with the frets, and I'll do the usual graphite etc. set up stuff. wondering how you have liked this over the long haul. I was prepared to replace the pick ups- but they actually sound pretty good! maybe a coil split would be cool (?) I haven't followed your entire process thru this guitar and probably should ( will)- but curious for some tips. did you stick with the bridge? seems fine off the bat but that's only a couple minutes play time. well, back to work- way too busy. Really enjoy your videos, thanks! I am really stocked on this guitar! thanks man!
