megaman exe I never read the label, but here in the Midwest, Casey's Convenience Stores will have special on different candy every so often, and one sign will be for Mars candy, and lists off each candy that covers.
Your channel is the perfect combination of nostalgia, pop culture, and informative. You've really stepped out the gate swinging. Keep up the good work.
Here in the UK, the Mars Bar is a very big brand, so it's no surprise that they're a big company, although I didn't realise about the pet food. Snickers and (our) Milky Way very much feel like they're from the same family. I would expect most people in the UK to know they're from the same stable.
dmace81 I wouldn't say Mandela effect, the way the words Kit Kat are constructed sounds like there should be a dash there, people who don't focus the how it's spelled but rather on how it sounds will spell it Kit-Kat, other people will see that, assume that's how it's spelled and spell it that way, not the Mandela effect at all
Kit Kats were developed by an English candy company called Rowntree in 1935. In 1969, Rowntree entered into a licensing deal with Hershey allowing them to manufacture Rowntree's products (mainly Kit Kat and Rolo) in the US . At the same time, Rowntree merged with John Mackintosh and Co. - thus, Kit Kat labels in the US read: "Manufactured under license from Rowntree Mackintosh, Ltd.". In 1988, Nestlé bought Rowntree Mackintosh, but since Rowntree had licensed Kit Kat and Rolo to Hershey in perpetuity (in reality, as long as Hershey makes the products) that agreement transferred from Rowntree Mackintosh to Nestlé.
kill star its not really a monopoly, there are plenty of other brands and even if mars went bankrupt thier assets would be sold so there would still be people producing m&m's.
Mars has always been my favorite, but what I love is how much they invest into animal hospitals and select shelters. It seems like a few years back, management changed hands and the new guy was an animal lover. All around, love the company.
Hey Company man! Love your videos and I wanted to comment on this one personally because I used to work for MARS. I was part of an field team that worked in Walmart across the nation. I would basically go into Walmart and sell displays, give advice on where to place products, and let store management know where they stand as far as sells and upcoming events. Hershey also does the same but MARS is way more aggressive especially when it comes to product placement. The company would basically tell us that we needed to go in there and tell management that M&Ms is better and that we had the better sells. They would also tell is that we needed to move any other candy products off the floor or put the other guys display in a bad spot so we could get the better spot. So i know its all retail and trying to get the sell but I never liked the idea bc it was always the same thing ever week in everystore with management saying. ... "it's all the same thing, it's candy!" lol Anyways it's a great company to work for but it just wasn't for me in the long run because they thought they should be everywhere and when Walmart says no then they mean No, not oh okay well if you ask me another million times then maybe haha.
SuperPlayz Gaming I like 3 Musketeers, but it'd be cool if for a month or two, they released an original 3 Musketeers bar, that had a vanilla and strawberry nougat bar to go with the chocolate. They phased that out early on, but I'm curious as to what it was like.
"Plus, if Hershey's put their name on a dog food, people might think there was chocolate in it." Oh come on, people wouldn't be _that_ stupid...right? _Right?_
its not like that, its the affiliatation to the brand name. They know that there is no chocolate in it, but if its run by a chocolate company, "what do they know about pets" is more the question that pops up first.
holy cow so glad i found this channel! as someone who grew up reading Financial magazines I have always been fascinated by large corporations/companies like Mars! So glad you're educating the masses with simple to understand videos like this :)
I don't know why so many sources explain things in such a complicated way. Most of it isn't hard to understand if properly explained and that's what this channel strives to do. Glad you like the videos and happy to have you on board.
Mars Inc. is smart, they've diversified their business model into many fields and like you said, they don't want their customers to have any negative preconceptions regarding their products. Like P&G or Kraft Foods. Hell, even Berkshire Hathaway.
it's damn amazing to know so many of the products you mentioned are well known globally despite the fact that they all had to stand alone without the mars name promoting them
I'm from the Netherlands and here Mars is by far the most popular of the Big 3 candy-bar companies. Everywhere you go small shops and kiosks offer Mars bars (and related brands as Bounty and Twix). Nestle comes in as a good second and Hershey has hardly any market share. I only know that name from Hollywood movies. The Mars brand is also well established in the Netherlands, probably because their biggest factory in the world is located here.
Huh!? I thought the Dutch, as with the Swiss, were famous for their native chocolate making; but a US company that makes chocolate is popular in the Netherlands? It must be the way the chocolate is made locally; as I've been told that American chocolate is not agreeable with European tastes.
what about Luxottica, thy controls a big chunk of the business. on eye ware products thy control about 80% of the market and no one knows about them (do a video on them )
RANI KUTBI it's pretty disgusting how the Monopoly they have on the eye market too, they raise the prices and buy out competiters, which I'm pretty sure there's a thing against monopolizing companies
Last time I bought glasses, I specifically went out of my way to avoid Luxottica (as well as SpecSavers, another company trying to dominate the glasses market here in Australia alongside Luxottica)
I always knew they were huge since a kid!! They have everything thing that I mostly love❤️❤️ (minus 3 musketeers &mars bar which I don’t ). They are smart not putting their names on everything, very smart marketing!!
I'd like you to talk about public companies that have separate tiers of voting shares which consolidate power to the original founders only. such as FB Alphabet Snapchat.
Great video. You have a way of making these topics interesting and easy to understand. Growing a new UA-cam channel is difficult and takes a long time, but keep up the good work and don't give up!
Mars stole the idea from Ron tree in the UK when he was in the UK and learned that the coloured candy coated chocolates were rations for the troops in the Commonwealth.
Holy christ, i knew Mars was bigger than i knew but i did not expect for them to own basically like 5 different markets entirely it seems. Thats a hellacious company right there.
Really enjoying your videos, man. Keep up the good work! Mars seems like a very interesting company. I appreciate their approach of letting their products succeed or fail on their own merits. It makes their successes seem more genuine; brand recognition isn't exploited to perhaps artifically inflate sales, and they allow the market to dictate what actually sells and takes a place in public life. I may be reading too much into it, but it comes off as embracing one of the finer aspects of capitalism, that of genuine success for each given output. Adam Smith would approve.
Your content is amazing. You deserve way more subscribers. Your quality of a video is way higher than it typically is at this level. I've been watching since 10k subs and I can't wait to watch how far you go. Keep up the good work!
I am surprised you didnt go into the really interesting early history of Mars, including the estrangement of father and son. That's really interesting stuff
I never really thought of them as an unknown company. It seems I've always known all of most of their products. I guess I'm just attentive to companies and their structure more than most.
Mars recently started selling Maltesers in the US market. There's a tub of them in my kitchen, but they're pretty much similar to our Whoppers brand of chocolate-covered malt balls!
Yeah, I worked at a grocery store and I was surprised when I noticed the "A Mars Corporation" or something on canned dogfood, which seemed like such a funny juxtaposition with the candy I associated it with. I did notice it was on uncle bens and virtually all the candy that wasn't Wonka or Hershey's. Love the channel by the way, just discovered it an hour ago and working my way through the videos, keep it up
Maybe because you have a candy similar to m&ms called Smarties? In the US, Smarties are nothing like m&ms. They're not chocolate, they come in small rolls, and usually are bought in large bags.
my aunt and uncle worked for m&m mars for a while and damn was it a treat every time I went to their house. Also sad about marathon bars and aqua drops not making it very far. I feel smarticle for being aware of all the candies mars owns.
Dang. I had no idea the Mars company owned all those other names. I had heard of the company before and was aware of their ownership of M&M's, and Musketeers, but I had no idea about the others, including the pet food companies they owned.
Great video and love the background music. You videos give us insight and understanding to many small but important items..brands and situations that have occurred through the years. Thank you for you contributions :-)
They do own a lot of things you don't realize. Mars is huge! Almost as big as the Earth, although a lot thinner atmosphere and much colder. LOL But seriously, I have a gross story about Mars. In the mid-80's, when I was around 7 or 8 years old, my sister and I were given candy bars by my parents from the grocery store. I remember being about halfway through eating my candy bar and I heard my sister scream in the kitchen. When I ran in there, I saw she had dropped her candy bar on the kitchen floor rug, and it was teaming with maggots... like dozens of maggots writhing around on it. When my parents checked my candy bar (half eaten) they saw one maggot in the cross-section where I bit it. As a dumb kid, I said I didn't care and I finished eating the rest of the candy bar. My mom wrote a letter to Mars, and they responded with a bunch of free product coupons and an apology letter. To this day, I remember all the maggots on that candy bar, and I'm grossed out to know I ate at least one of those suckers. Ewwwwwhhhh.
Great video! I work for a logistics company that copack’s for Mars pet food division. Those brands come through my site. Mars has great people working for them, I think that’s why they’re so successful.
Re: M&M's. I somewhere years ago that during WWII the military wanted a candy that wouldn't melt in tropical heat, thus the hard shell M&M was developed, c. 1943-44, rather than 1937. The demand was so great that after WWII it was sold on the civilian market. The rest, as they say, is history. BTW, really enjoy your vid's and keep up the good work!
This is the only Bigger Than You Know that didn't surprise me. When I ran inventory at a grocery store I quickly realized that Mars is in the fine print of what seems like everything
The thing I know Mars best for is a childhood taunt from kindergarten; "boys go to Mars to get more chocolate bars, girls go to Jupiter to get more stupider" (with the sexes reversing depending on who was saying it; I used the boy version because well...I'm a boy). I do remember having my mind blown in 7th grade when I learned there really is a chocolate bar called the Mars Bar, and it wasn't just a clever rhyme someone came up with.
Dude this channel is fantastic. Such quality content. Your ABA vs NBA vid was on my recommended and ever since I've been watching. I just subbed too. Keep it up.
I've worked at a private company that cooks and packages those orange single-serving *Uncle Ben's* rice cups (among other products). I mostly palletized the finished cases (which I enjoy doing), but sometimes I'd work the reclaim line.
I preferred Mars candies as a child because I realized that you got more for your money. Hershey products were usually 1.5 oz but Mars' candies, down the line, were always 2.0 oz. You got a quarter more candy for the same price!
Mars had a division called Mars Electronics that developed and sold coin and bill validators for vending machines. It was spun off into a separate company called MEI which was then bought by Crane Co. which makes vending machines.
And being still family owned as a global company is amazing
Very nicely researched and presented! Thank you!
Lol
And still using child labor!! I love mars!!
It'd be cool to see "Bigger Than you Know" become a reoccurring series.
It's possible.
Company man - Bigger than you know
Haha it has become :)
@@companyman114 it went from possible to a reality
So Mars Incorporated is the Disney of candy company.
Sam McCullough kinda...
But Disney still use strength of their company name
At least it's chocolate, not that phony chocolate that Nestle uses.
The higher ups in this company are all sickos
and pet food/care, food based products, and alot of stuff you ahvent ever used and proably never will.
I guess you could say that Mars is out of this world
MrMosbyOfficial VEVO oh god
MrMosbyOfficial VEVO ba dum tisk *finger guns*
MrMosbyOfficial VEVO i hate you
What a Twist!!!
MrMosbyOfficial VEVO HOLY SHIT YOUR PROFILE IS GOLD😂😂😂😂😂😂
When you've so many different brands, it's smart not to attach the mother brand to everything but instead let the separate brands stand on their own!
They let their products grow based on their own merit, not just some brand name.
if your a weirdo like me you read the label and find out lol
megaman exe
I do the same as well, but still there were things I didn't know about
megaman exe I never read the label, but here in the Midwest, Casey's Convenience Stores will have special on different candy every so often, and one sign will be for Mars candy, and lists off each candy that covers.
jimbo 2346 This also how I figured it out, trying to get those on sale.
I do megaman! I always read labels while I'm eating food or candy for no apparent reason.
CarCat its fun to know things even if half the stuff isn't real food lol
Your channel is the perfect combination of nostalgia, pop culture, and informative. You've really stepped out the gate swinging. Keep up the good work.
I intend to Anguel. Expect much more of the same, maybe even better (but can't promise that second part).
Here in the UK, the Mars Bar is a very big brand, so it's no surprise that they're a big company, although I didn't realise about the pet food. Snickers and (our) Milky Way very much feel like they're from the same family. I would expect most people in the UK to know they're from the same stable.
I have a question for you: why are Kit-Kat bars distributed by Hershey's in the US but Nestle everywhere else in the world?
CrystalMoonStar according to Wikipedia it's because a division of hersheys owns the license to Kit Kat
There is no dash in Kit Kat. #Mandelaeffect
dmace81 I wouldn't say Mandela effect, the way the words Kit Kat are constructed sounds like there should be a dash there, people who don't focus the how it's spelled but rather on how it sounds will spell it Kit-Kat, other people will see that, assume that's how it's spelled and spell it that way, not the Mandela effect at all
I honestly forgot if it did or didn't and I just left it in. I hate it when I forget those little details :/
Kit Kats were developed by an English candy company called Rowntree in 1935. In 1969, Rowntree entered into a licensing deal with Hershey allowing them to manufacture Rowntree's products (mainly Kit Kat and Rolo) in the US .
So what you're saying is that if Mars went bankrupt, chocolate, candy, gum, and pet food would no longer exist.
Ark that a Monopoly for you
+kill star
My comment was a joke, I wouldn't really say Mars has a monopoly on candy.
kill star its not really a monopoly, there are plenty of other brands and even if mars went bankrupt thier assets would be sold so there would still be people producing m&m's.
They'd probably sell their brands to other companies
They'd sell the wrigley division to another company
Mars has always been my favorite, but what I love is how much they invest into animal hospitals and select shelters. It seems like a few years back, management changed hands and the new guy was an animal lover. All around, love the company.

Me too and I agree. Ethel M in Vegas
Mars doesn't have to boast and brag about how good their company is because secretly, they're the best!
I use work at Mars and can confirm this is only a slight exaggeration.
I spent 30 years workiing for Mars Inc. and the mars family .A truly unique commpany that was a pleasure to work for .

Timothy McLean you'd be surprised. We have Katy Perry, don't we?

Do I Hate Mars Ba-
Oops, wrong channel.....
Do a video on how incredibly frugal Mars is as a company. It's mind blowing.
Holy shoot. I did not even know this. I love all of these candies. That’s really cool.
I always knew they were huge since a kid!! They have everything thing that I mostly love❤️❤️ (minus 3 musketeers &mars bar which I don’t ). They are smart not putting their names on everything, very smart marketing!!

Is this supposed to be a joke?

I love this channel! I never would have thought I'd want to watch these kinds of videos, but I can't get enough of them!
That's exactly what I like to hear. The topics are really more interesting than they sound.
I'd like you to talk about public companies that have separate tiers of voting shares which consolidate power to the original founders only. such as FB Alphabet Snapchat.
Great video.
You have a way of making these topics interesting and easy to understand.
Growing a new UA-cam channel is difficult and takes a long time, but keep up the good work and don't give up!
do "I hate mars bars"
I'll see myself out.
vanzy01 I did it before you.
You went searching for someone else to say it.
Insecurity?
Grammar Nazi AUS nope. just found this copier by accident.

It's the invisible hand ReverendShmun. Thanks for the kind words.

Would love to see a video on what happened to MySpace or any of those near defunct social media platforms
Common request and I plan to look into it soon Dave. I did make one about Vine.
Company Man Yes! It was fascinating. I love everything you've done so far
I am surprised you didnt go into the really interesting early history of Mars, including the estrangement of father and son. That's really interesting stuff
MySpace :D
why xhamster, youporn, and xvideos just can't compete with pornhub
I work in a big store and my co-workers are shocked when I showed them that everything we sell is owned by just a few big companies.
Do a few videos on some Automakers and game companies. GM. Ford, MOPAR, Microsoft, Atari, SEGA & Nintendo would all make good videos.
0:48 Matthew McConaughey, is that you? Is THAT what M&M's stands for?
I never really thought of them as an unknown company. It seems I've always known all of most of their products. I guess I'm just attentive to companies and their structure more than most.
Out of all the channels that focus on modern retail and corporate information, this one is by far the best. Thanks for the videos!
That's a very specific compliment but I'll take it. Thank you Jill.
Do a video of Circuit City! I miss going there every Tuesday for new CD releases. I liked them so much better than Best Buy!
The GearShots I want to see this too. they're fall from grace is something we all need.
I notice as time goes on your commentary gets better and better, its getting more emotion and sounds awesome, good job
I've been working at it.

Just used this video to help prepare me for a networking event with Mars Inc. Thanks Company Man!
Do a video on bic (the pen company and its other weird shit)
That is a very strong possibility pbj315.
I haven’t seen a Mars bar since I was really little but I really do remember enjoying them. M&M’s are my favorite and the plain and peanut are tied.
What the... THEY OPERATE BANFIELD?! thats the vet clinic in pretty much every petsmart store.. holy crap thats really huge

Mars bars are very popular in Britain and probably more popular then m&m's and most people have heard of mars
Same here in Australia.
Maybe because you have a candy similar to m&ms called Smarties? In the US, Smarties are nothing like m&ms. They're not chocolate, they come in small rolls, and usually are bought in large bags.
I learned from this video that what we know as a Mars bar is called a Milky Way in the US

Yeah Jo, I don't think many people do. The company certainly doesn't make it well known.
Great video and love the background music. You videos give us insight and understanding to many small but important items..brands and situations that have occurred through the years. Thank you for you contributions :-)

"You're not You When Your Hungry"
I love this video! I wish I found it last year when I did a huge research paper about the Mars company’s marketing.
So they basically own the candy industry
PumpkinTheHamster What Nestle and Hershey don't own.
There are others that make candies you've heard of but those are the big 3 for sure.
Glenn Lego Hershey's good. Nestle, execpt for oh Henry, sucks. Just my option.

do a video about how cable tv is dying
If you want someone to hate you, give them a mix of Skittles and M&Ms.
Every time you say Mars Bar, I can't stop thinking of IHE and I Hate Mars Bars.
Yeah, he's really taken over the market for Mars related UA-cam videos.
Here in the UK
Mars is more recognisable than hershy is

I've worked at a private company that cooks and packages those orange single-serving *Uncle Ben's* rice cups (among other products). I mostly palletized the finished cases (which I enjoy doing), but sometimes I'd work the reclaim line.
wow so Mars is a giant monopoly! I'm still going to the gas station though cuz now I'm craving mars chocolate LOL
Chris Yonge it's not a monopoly. An oligopoly maybe but definetely not a monopoly.
Oligopoly = Mars
Monopoly = Walmart
Ronnie Wellington Monopoly = luxxottica
I love the pauses in this video
Did you have to use THAT disgusting Skittles commercial?! It's revolting!
Proud of you brother look how fast you growing! you deserve it.
It's been great BXJAY. Glad to have you and all the others on board.
I wonder if the brands that Mars Incorporated owns are called Martians?
Yes. All Mars employees are referred as Martians. My wife works at the Mars Corporate office 😀
I preferred Mars candies as a child because I realized that you got more for your money. Hershey products were usually 1.5 oz but Mars' candies, down the line, were always 2.0 oz. You got a quarter more candy for the same price!
I like how you used to buy your candy based on quantity but can't argue with the method. Haha.
is this not scary to anyone else?
No, everything is fine go back to sleep America. Everything will be fine if you eat your milky way.
What's scary?
Mars had a division called Mars Electronics that developed and sold coin and bill validators for vending machines. It was spun off into a separate company called MEI which was then bought by Crane Co. which makes vending machines.
So skittles and m&ms are made by the same company. Who knew.
Bryant Partazana That shocked me too. I thought they were rivals or something.
No Skittles for me. Never did like jelly beans.
your videos are pretty good, as well as surprisingly entertaining for a channel that talks about companies. just thought i'd give my input.
Thanks Ben. Appreciate it.
