Based on what I see online I wouldn't recommend it. It's not made to neutralize acid. Here's what a google search said: Borax is a powdery white substance, also known as sodium borate, sodium tetraborate, or disodium tetraborate. It's widely used as a household cleaner and a booster for laundry detergent. It's a combination of boron, sodium, and oxygen.
Thank you for all your great videos I've been following you for almost 5 years..I've been noticing a lot of pools on my route have low pH and high alkalinity..what do you suggest in that case?
Hello from Florida,My Ph has been off since I opened it, I use strips and liquid both say same thing pH is low,I bought PH but it’s 💯 bicarbonate and it’s still cloudy not bad but still cloudy I started out with the lowest dose 12 oz for my 20,000 pool all other levels are good do you have any suggestions?Thank you.
Typically, bicarbonate of soda raises alkalinity, whereas soda ash raises pH. If your pool is still cloudy, run your filter pump for several hours to circulate the water and if that doesn’t help, you might need to clean your filter Media.
@@emilianorapues3601 unfortunately I’m not a chemist This is what I found online Sodium carbonate is often referred to as soda ash or washing soda. Sodium bicarbonate is popularly called as baking soda. Sodium carbonate is made up of sodium and acid. Sodium bicarbonate comes with sodium, acid and hydrogen.
So, I haven't been able to get a straight answer online about this. I keep testing my water with strips and going to a pool store and my CYA keeps dropping. I'll add a dose, it'll come up for like a week to 30 ish, and then drop back down to like 20 or lower. I've had my pool checked for leaks and everything and it's fine. The rest of the chemistry is perfect, but the CYA is just not holding I'm so lost about it 😭😂
Hmm. that's strange. There must be something "leeching" the chemical out of your pool. I'm puzzled. My only suggestion is that you may need to add a bit more often til it stabilizes. Not sure what else to suggest MAYBE try a different brand of CYA.
When you use soda ash the water will turn cloudy but that should only last as long as it takes for the soda ash to dissolve. Once the soda ash is completely dissolved it should be fine and it should clear up. I’ve never had it stay cloudy. If your pool is cloudy it may be for other reasons. Always make sure that when you add soda ash to your pool you have your pump motor running during and for a couple hours after to help dissolving and dispersing the chemical
The other youtube video by a pool professional said to use Borax to raise the Ph. He said Soda Ash raises the Alkalinity too much and Borax barely raises Alkalinity so we should use Borax to raise Ph. Where did you hear Soda Ash is better than Borax to raise Ph????
I was trained by a few different pool service owners who used soda ash to raise the pH of the pool. Typically soda Ash has little to no affect on the alkalinity. But if you want to try borax, you can try it.
Thank you

Great video. Can I use Borax instead of soda ash to raise pH only? Thoughts?

Yes I’d did all the time when I had an above ground pool.
