oh shit....I finally remembered their name in order to find this again, almost a decade later. I remembered loving their harmonized sound. So simple and pure....beautiful.
Oh my God, the girl all the way at 2:49 who first appears in the back right wearing a red wool hat with the biggest smile on her face. She gets me every time, especially watching her make her way over to the music and start bobbing back and forth with full-body motions to the music, still grinning ear-to-ear. She is pure joy, it makes me smile. :) I've lived in NYC all my life and never have I seen someone so unabashedly full of love
Hey, I found out about these guys through their npr performance as far back as this comment is old but if their's any chance you read this or you're even alive, I totally dug that chick too and saw the same kind of genuine happiness and love on a Cam Cole video where he's playing this Sweet Mama Earth song (or something real close sounding in the title but it pops up near the top of the search results on YT) and these two street/hippy guys are totally into it and in love with the sounds towards the top right of the frame. It's definitely worth watching if you come across this comment. You'll see the kids blonde hair in the thumbnail.
i love all of this, the subway at the begining adds something, i dont know what but something! its like something so peaceful and amazing in the midst of the busy subway system of NYC... thank you
i love how the announcements and the sound of the train arriving and departing just fits with the song as well. just a really great song in a great atmosphere for their sound
Was shocked to find out Weathervanes in not on Spotify anymore :'( I stumbled upon this video and now I'm in tears! Wish I could have experienced this.
wow....this is inspiring and beautiful, not often that you find that in this kind of music. normally this would be pretentious and boring, but this is purely genious. I love it :)
its so sad that all of us NOT from NYC are so excited about this performance and the people rushing being slaves to the man cant take 5 seconds out of their day to appreciate some beautiful music.
@drdanisuess It does, doesn't it? Haha, it's compliments the song very well, giving it a beautiful urban sub-ethos. Even the abrupt "Excuse me(s)" in the songs only enhances the visual and emotional drama playing in the NY subway system. Brilliant, utter brilliance.
And people wonder why NY'ers can be considered so rude. This blonde woman walks past and pushes the stand and camera where the person is filming the band, and says, "excuse me!!!." She clearly has plenty of room on each side to walk past, but decides to proceed head on with the cameraman at the 2:06 mark. You can clearly see earlier in the video that she see's the person filming and takes aim for them, deliberately walking in their direction and getting in their way on purpose. Talk about rude.....Absolutely no need for that. Or perhaps she was just showing off for the man in the raincoat jacket who was trailing her. But overly aggressive and uncalled no doubt.....
Is there a studio or recorded version of this song with the third verse? The one on the CD stops after "the house chants on without us." Or is there a video I can rip the song from that has a good quality with the third verse?
@permanentbodyguard . Freelance Whales are able to create creative and intuitive pieces from the oddest of arrangements of instruments which span, break, and reform many modern definitions we have of music. Their music is not only complex and redefining, but simply harmonious and entertaining all the same. Hipsters drive me mad and, in my book at least, skinny jeans may as well be from the devil, but in all honesty you need to respect musical talent and give credit when it is due.
Freelance Whales reminds me of flowers in this and the woman at 2:06 resembles all the people swerving and flying by who just don't have "enough" time to stop and smell them in their busy life...or they simply don't care, sadly..
I'm amazed that there wasn't alot of traffic right through the set..........I do believe this was done most any where else things would have been different.
I don't really get the whole discussion going on below this comment if someone would like to summarise it in laymans terms for me? And I love the music xD
I love the girl in the back with the orange hat. Just how it seems like she's genuinely enjoying it. Why can't the rest of you stop complaining about hipster trash and just LISTEN TO THE DAMN MUSIC
@hobbnet i mean honestly... they are taking a decent amount of space. maybe if they were more considerate of people who actually have to get somewhere they would have aligned parallel to the train not perpendicular to it ;)
oh shit....I finally remembered their name in order to find this again, almost a decade later.
I remembered loving their harmonized sound.
So simple and pure....beautiful.
Genuinely magical. One of my favorite bands ❤
RIP Chuck, you'll be missed
i freaking love the lady in the pink scarf and orange hat.

my brain almost exploded at the level of perfect brilliance here...
You've probably never heard of them, they're sort of underground.
Jamie Leszczak underrated as fuck comment lmao
Their sound is incredible. I love this song. Rest in Peace, Chuck. You will never be forgotten. We love you.
i love all of this, the subway at the begining adds something, i dont know what but something! its like something so peaceful and amazing in the midst of the busy subway system of NYC... thank you
My advice to you: don't be an "excuse me!" lady. Be a pink scarf girl.
lol ikr
Leave Karen alone, she will talk to your manager
She'll always be a legend to me.
@@avedic Glad to see I'm not the only one who consistently revisits this legendary video throughout the years. 🥰

i love how the announcements and the sound of the train arriving and departing just fits with the song as well. just a really great song in a great atmosphere for their sound
From a subway station to a Starbucks commercial. You guys have made it. Good talent is recognized
I love how raw this song sounds in the subway. They make me feel happy inside and out : )
Was shocked to find out Weathervanes in not on Spotify anymore :'( I stumbled upon this video and now I'm in tears! Wish I could have experienced this.

This song DEFINITELY deserves more recognition. The starbucks commercial hopefully does wonders, thats the reason i found out about it

They’re just amazing!!
Can't wait to see you guys Sunday. Hope you enjoy Buffalo, your sound is pretty rad
that "ladies and gentleman" part on the loudspeaker actually sounds like part of the song!
I almost feel like the lady on the annoucement system should be part of the song.
It kind of fits. Weirdly enough.
doesn't get any better than Freelance Whales :)
Merci de m'avoir rendu le sourire ce soir :)
look at all those sad people... cant even stop for a minute to appreciate something beautiful.
I would gladly pay taxes dedicated exclusively to providing this sort of music for my daily commute.
the announcer really fits in well.
even the girl who said "excuse me" fits in.

They are So Freaking Awesome!!!!!!

hahah i love that that train came in and loads of people got off just as they were getting into it :)
Loves it!
i love that
you notice how the chick in the train metro speakers sync in perfectly when the melody of the song changes?
THE TAMBOURINE IT STINGS MY EARS
@drdanisuess It does, doesn't it? Haha, it's compliments the song very well, giving it a beautiful urban sub-ethos. Even the abrupt "Excuse me(s)" in the songs only enhances the visual and emotional drama playing in the NY subway system. Brilliant, utter brilliance.
EXCELLENT.
would have loved to have stumbled upon this!
The five people that dislike missed their train because they were listening to this. c:
@DIGBY67 I haven't been able to get it out of my head since the Starbucks commercial came on.

moral of the story : never get rid of the only girl in your band !

The girl dancing in the background. She knows what's good.
I can def see this song as a car commercial song!
CHUCK CRISS! So freaking handsome and talented!
Is there a studio or recorded version of this song with the third verse? The one on the CD stops after "the house chants on without us."
Or is there a video I can rip the song from that has a good quality with the third verse?

Rip chuck ❤ 🌹
Uniquely bold.

@tobilius Tell me, what instruments do you play or like to listen to? I mean if guitars and a banjo are instruments you've described as such....
Brilliant. The next gig should be on the moon....with panda's

I don't really get the whole discussion going on below this comment if someone would like to summarise it in laymans terms for me?
And I love the music xD
I'd allow to make me late for work. If I heard this while walking to my train, I'd stop as long as I could.
Its to good.

God, remember 2010?
This is one of my favorite songs.
But what if I told you you could be whimsical and irreverent and also, practice a lot and be perfect?
Am I considered a hipster if I listen to this and a lot of more indie shit hahaha cause if I am then I'm proud to be one
@truegamer44 haha im not like against catcher, damn good book. just using it as an analogy
"excuse me!"
