Homemade Panel Saw From Pipes And Castors -- Every Workshop Should Have One!

- Panel saws are great for cutting up big 8 x 4 sheets of plywood or chipboard or mdf or whatever. They cost thousands to buy though, so I made this one a few years ago now and it cost maybe 40 euros plus the skil saw that I can still use separately if I want to. It is brilliant! I use it often and it has to be one of the most useful tools I have. The long spring is just to keep the electric flex out of the way.
If you think this might be useful to others please like and share. Thank you!
When I saw the hi-tech counterweights the laughter burst out of me. I couldn't help it! Well done! See? You don't don't need expensive and fancy. You need available and functional! Very impressive! (As usual!)
Same
It was definitely a milk squirter
I just... how can you not love this set up. I especially like that you don't even try to get fancy. You just use what you have and make it work. Dig it.
That has to be the most humble description of an excellent piece of work I've ever seen. Getting all of that square would not have been easy!
I thought getting the saw Plum and bottom track level would have been square. Am I wrong?
I have seen many home made versions of this tool. This is bar far the best. The use of castors as guides on the vertical tubes is the light bulb moment. Excellent.
Nice! Out of all the cool tips I've picked up from, better builders than me, on UA-cam, this might be my favorite. Forget Japanese joinery...I'm building a panel saw☺
It's a miracle! I've spent two nights burning my brain while imagining how to build my own panel saw, and then this pops out in my UA-cam suggestions. With some minor adjustments and materials, this will be it. Thanks a lot, genius!
Glad I could help!
Isn’t it funny how life works? I was thinking about searching for panel saw videos just before I opened the UA-cam app, and there you were in the first row of videos!
Oh no you tube is wired into your brain 😂
you are like me. Get the things done, with the materials/tools we have. Awesome one.
Now this is what I have been looking for! Someone that fabricates something from simple tools that make a complex accurate cutting, repeatable panel saw! I am going to make one! I have had a need for just this type of tool when cutting birch plywood for cabinet making. I have a table saw, but it requires a lot of space to cut full sheet.
Very nice. This is better than an expensive table saw because it takes up less space. 🙂
Finally found what I was looking for in a panel saw. Thanks for sharing.
I built one of those 20 years ago. Still have it. Still works great. I use sash weights for counterbalance.
That is an awesome UA-cam! You've made it, posted it and now I'm able to make my own with parts I have and a limited amount of "out of pocket money" mainly for the Casters. Thank you Sir.
Enjoyed all 2 minutes and 49 seconds. Brilliant!
Better and more affordable than anything I have seen.
Beautifully done Tim beautifully done.
Superb. Will have to try building this saw. Also love the so simple tool for carrying 8x4 sheets.
Thanks for putting this on UA-cam.
Congratulations!
Simple and efficient!
Very very nice!
Thank you, friend!
I'm talking from Campinas - Brazil
Brilliant simple design
Norm Abrams never had one of these!!! Well Done!!
Has to be the best video ive seen on You Tube for a long time..brilliant and thank you for making me smile
my friend U R a genius !!!!!! i love it !!! 2 thumbs way up for you !!
Thank you! Cheers!
You sir are the real deal as far as wood worker goes. Just your pile of "sraps and left overs" says it all!
Have to love this panel saw!! 😍
I am a do-it-your-selfer and you are my inspiration. I really want to build this for myself in the future. You are the DIY'er I want to be. Thanks for sharing.
im gonna make that one.. creative design.. that high tech counter balance make me chuckle..hahaha..
This is Awesome! Great simplicity...and functional to boot!
Wow, up ya boya! Brilliant, just brilliant.
Simple, safe. Beautiful design. Thanks for sharing!
This is excellent!
"....high tech counter balance" LMAO!!!! awesome contraption, simple and efficient. Thanks for sharing SIR!!!
Fantastic ingenuity !! Cheers from the US!
Awesome. I plan to build one. A panel saw is very useful since the saws in HD and Lowes usually have terrible blades and cause a lot of tear outs. Thanks much for the idea.
Another project to add to the bucket list.
it don't have to be pretty just effective and you definitely made it effective. Good job
Brilliant thank-you, your stop on the cross cut saw is excellent too 👍😎🐝🐝
Thanks, Bob : - )
Great looking OES. I have to give this a try
Honestly! You are a great inspiration!
A carbattery and a paintbucket.......brilliant!
Great idea, simple design, easy operation and best of all, made with low cost/free materials.
One improvement I would make is a half max board length exit guide. By having BOTH input guide and exit guide hinged they could easily fold up vertically to minimise the storage space for the unit (always an issue for a shed or a shop).
Great work on the video and I like the hi tech humour. Like Einstein said ...
"Things should be as simple as possible ... but no simpler!"
You Sir are an inspiration.
Gary. Make the jig a few feet taller, then you can rip your sheets till your hearts content.
It's no big deal.
David gives the input and it is up to us either to use it or modify it.
One should be able to build this panel saw for under £100 including a new cheap saw.
Great bit of kit David.
Jeff
tactus100 Thanks Jeff. (It's Tim actually, but I've been called much worse!)
I really like your sense of humour!! nice job.
Nicely done! Smart piece of kit.
Excellent my man! I don’t have a shop anymore but I wish I had thought of that many years ago. I enjoyed this video. Thanks.
I'm definitely making this. Awesome.
What a great and simple idea ! Wonderfull !
That cheered me up....'board goes in...board goes out...in...out' too funny XD
It's a very good thing that we're not closer. Because I would hug you.
Ha! Happy it helped..
Excellent !
It is simple, but really smart and effective!
That's pretty good! And I love the video itself. Very easy to watch.
I absolutely love your build - I'm also quite jealous!
I really want to make one, thanks for sharing!
I can only think of on word " Awesome "
Nice job!
That is brilliant. Why didn’t I think of it. I need one. Many thanks 👍
second time iv`e watched this in two days and i must say it is brilliant and simple a must for my garage projects great video keep up the great work
Love it and the comments are pure entertainment!
Good job. I want to make a horizontal one. Thanks. You inspired me.
Slick! Thanks for sharing.
I'm going to be making one of these! Great idea!
Cool work. Thanks for showing.
Nice video, I really like your sheet handle. I use my claw hammer for my handle, its usually on my hip anyway. Your panel saw is nice and simple and has given me ideas how to build one myself. Thank you for sharing.
great idea, simple and effective!
Just now seeing it! Bless you for the info!
That’s terrific thanks
Very good
Great video and awesome how to's, thank you for sharing :)
This is magnificent! Even I can built this.
very good excellent and quick service. ..thanks
01:34 Couldn't get more *high tech* than this - ha, ha. Totally *wicked* .
nice Video-Clip ! this little bit of Humor is the Best ! Greetings from Germany / Thuringia !
Easily one of the very best short and sweet UA-cam videos... So brilliant and funny...... And I thought Irish were a grumpy lot! A lot to the west... Did you say?!
Excellent Video. Very simple design and looks like it will last based on the simple elements. Love It!
Great video! Simple and elegant great design!
Magnificient...you had me hooked at the handle and then came the twirl..to the panel saw tally ho! and what a little beaut it is. I think I'll make one, cheers from NZ.
Very clever! Was thinking of buying the hardware kits for a panel saw, but after seeing this video your route seems much better! :)
I was thinking of building one like this (just an idea - not quite as sophisticated as this*) and now I saw this saw ... you're a genius and an inspiration. * I really love the high-tech counter balance ... ME LIKE!!!
LosoIAm OH, and thank you for putting this video up.
Gracias por compartir esta genial idea. Dios te bendiga siempre!!.
Nice work on the saw !
You won me at High Tech Counter Balance!!
excellent idea ! brilliantly done.
Very good idea...God bless you.
You Sir are a F ing genius. Love it and it will be built.
David Blain Cheers David. Yes, it will be built, but how long will it take?!
Awesome bro, tnx for sharing it!!!
Excellent ideas!
Your a funny guy as well haha :)
Great Build
This is so simple it's brilliant, I wanted to do something like this years ago, but without any welding facilities at the time I shelved it, if I had come up with this I could have saved myself a lot of time and effort, the really annoying bit is I have all the bits I need in my workshop!, including the scaffolding poles, one refinement I would like to suggest, particularly if you are working in a small out-building say a domestic garage for example, and don't have room for the high tech counterbalance since your saw frame is against the wall, what about using a large spring, some from an old trampoline should give enough tension to support the saw, I think I will definitely do this now, I love the simplicity, and I certainly can't afford to buy one ready made, also there is great satisfaction in building your own stuff, very well done sir!
WOW! Exactly what I was looking for!!! A hundred thumbs UP!!
and all without the audio!
These are all things I have ready access to and thusly will get a panel saw that would have cost me over $1000!
Thanks from Kansas, USA!!
Thanks Trapper John - glad this helped. : - )
No,.. thank YOU!!
I will have to figure out a way to be able to turn the saw for long sideways cuts.
Thank you so much sir. GREAT ideas here. Have a wonderful day.
O_O Wow I love it ! such a brilliant design !
Simply lovely
Too simple, always the way, the carry ply tool will make it easier when Jen (wife) and I work together as she doesn't have my reach! I shared with my m8's, thanks love it! (wish I'd seen it before we started the reno's though lol)
A great idea and one for us with back issues, fantastic.. I loved the very high tech counter weights!... well done.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Brilliant!👍
Nicely done, now all you need is a project that will use the Tesco trolleys you cut the castors from
The way you shot this reminds me very much of the old Canadian show, The Red Green Show. Very cool.
Ahh, the Red Green show! I agree, this video is very much like that show.
Very well done.
I want one now!!! I'm off to the Big Box Store!
Thank you...
Damn you're a genius. I just got my first circular saw and I'm gonna try this (I already have all the parts you need too!)
