For sure one of the best tutorials on "Helpless" available on YT. Because, Justin is showing so many different ways in different keys to play it and how to spice the song up.
I have been playing a lot of Neil Young for years and years. But at my age now ,I can't keep singing as high as Neil does. Especially this song. Very frustrating, but when I seen this post "BOOM" it blew my mind. Now I can find my key! You've shown me the way to keep on playing those songs that Iove and sing them in a way that sounds correct. Thank you Justin, you have always been a great teacher for me.
Thank you so much Justin, what a great version of this great song. You have opened new versions of playing the song in different keys with a capo. I am just now getting my head around this method. Really amazing sound.
Very nice. I like both versions without and with capo. But I really felt the version with the Capo. Bravo . The guy singing with you has got a beautiful voice. Thanks for posting.
Justin -very nice. Thanks for exploring the capo……opened up a whole new experience. Thanks for helping push me along as a beginner after 50 years of steps and starts. Really enjoy all of your Neil Young lessons. Peace.
Excellent and easy to follow Tutorial this is my all time favourite song. I'm just getting back into playing after several years, your tutorials are making it easy to get back at it. Thanks so much for all the Neil Young Covers....my favourite singer song writer.
Wow, that's so great. I'm going to subscribe and follow. When your voice doesn't fit the bill you bring in a pal who hits the high note. That's real amazing!
Oh this is a great song. One of my favorites. Thank you for doing a lesson. I love whoever was helping you with the accompaniment vocals. He could really do the high notes very beautifully. Thanks you guys thank you for this amazing lesson looking forward to learning this
Ok, that felt like two people were playing the guitar. Your mixing of those melody notes while strumming is fantastic. Superb cover, liked the vocals a lot. Unique style of singing. Thanks for posting.
quality! Neil Young is the seminal figure of country-rock for the last 30 years or more, and being named the father of grunge, I don't think he gives a damn about any of that - but his music is honest and kind, great stuff. - old laughing lady is one of my all time fav's
I like to play Neil Young, Crosby Stills and Nash stuff. What I tend to do is Chuck in sus2, sus4 to create a variable, emotional feel. I think that is how Neil actually sings it also. He does sing in a way that sounds higher than the key but I don't see it as a forceto but a modified 3rd feel. He does the same in Heart of Gold, Teach the Children Well. Cheers George Taylor.
Great vocal harmony. I'm going to try to follow the hammer-ons, etc., that Justin adds. Those bring so much to the simple D-A-G progression (C-G-F in the _Last Waltz_ version) of the song.
Awesome as usual. And that guy CAN sing! (BTW, I have a suggestion: one day, can you please cover Queen's "A Kind of Magic"? It's a nice tune, with absolutely zero decent lessons on UA-cam :D)
Thanks Justin.... Been waiting for a long long time to teach me how to change the key of the song .. Coz i force myself to sing in the key of the song and ruin it ... ever grateful .. Cheers from India :)
It's very nice to have some vocals in a video from you. The words are important! Thanks for this. Try as might, I can't read your guitar. What guitar brand are you playing?
I can't clearly see the logo, but I believe that's a Maton. Justin has mentioned that brand a lot on his website. Have a look here, and see if the logo on the company's site looks like what's on the headstock of Justin's guitar. (Your eyesight is probably better than mine.) maton.com.au
Great Lesson Justin, when you put the capo on and you were playing the C chord and playing a scale A familiar tune popped into my head and can't think what it could be. Do you know a song that uses that lick at the end?
Hey Justin. Great lesson. Would you consider doing a tutorial on Eric Clapton's Easy Now? There's very little on you tube about it, and it is a great strumming song with some neat sounding chords in it. thank you!
I am able to play along with the studio version (Deja Vu) and with the Massey Hall version. However, when I try to play along with The Last Waltz version it sounds awful. Perhaps it is in a different key, maybe to accommodate Joni Mitchell's incredible backing vocals, but I tried capos on several frets and it still sounds awful. Any suggestions/comments about what the problem is. I am a relative beginner (maybe advanced beginner).
Turns out that the Last Waltz Version is in the key of C. So the open chords are C, G, and F instead of D,A, and G. Sounds great , especially with Joni's backing vocals.
Great lesson, as always, Justin. Love this song. I have a Christmas request for you or anybody who follows your lessons. You made years ago a lesson on Like a Rolling Stone and then you had to retire it for copyright reasons (thanks Bob for that!). I thought it was the best cover I had ever seen, and intended to study it, but alas, I did not download it. So... anybody has got that file? Thanks a lot in advance.
Neil said he had polio when young and it affected his left said.He is always conscious of the difference in strength.Ive always assumed that created his strumming style

Please tab out that intro. I love that style! And the vocals are just wonderful! Great job!
Very nice. I like both versions without and with capo. But I really felt the version with the Capo. Bravo . The guy singing with you has got a beautiful voice. Thanks for posting.
Found this one, helped me to grasp capos and chord shapes better, thank you Justin!

Maybe you can make a video for "send me an angel - scorpions"!

I wrote a song that goes G-D-C-C. Glad to see that's Justin's preferred grip. Altho now I'm concerned I'm just ripping off Neil Young 🙃
