Thank you so much!! I've been struggling all summer to add gold lettering and graphics to leather luggage tags, and I've wasted a lot of time and effort. I tried liquid mask/liquid gold leaf/leather primer and finishes in so many iterations and orders, and I was about to give up. Thank you, I can't wait to give this a try.
Glad I could help! it works best one smooth finished leather, no so good on raw vegtan, because the glue soaks into the raw leather to fast, need the glue to float ontop, so your application should work well
@@LaserEngraving911 That's reassuring, thanks! If I may ask, have you ever experimented with using tape or liquid mask to keep the glue in place on your design versus creating an acrylic stamp? The stamping technique seems perfect for a scenario wherein I'll be making the same design repeatedly, but if I'm making different monograms for each customer, my desire for efficiency wants there to be an easier way. Haha. Thanks, your channel is wonderful.
@@ivorytuskmeg Yes, and my final thoughts are do not put anything on the surface like mask or tape, liquid mask that may affect the finish of the leather or leatherette, the way I demonstrated I had the best results with.
Great video… everything else I found when searching about gold detail and laser was to do with laser printers and toner reactive foil… this is exactly what I was looking for. Im assuming this can be used on any surface that doesn’t flex TOO much and can stand up to the melting temp of the powder…. Im thinking of using it to accent leather stamped designs….
Excellent !. Do you think stamp rubber would make a embossing stamp as well if glued to a hard backing. I think it would go better into the little grooves of the leather, or maybe it would push out from the stamp and ruin it all.
I think you need heat and pressure for those foils, thats why they use metal stamping dies, you cant heat the acrylic up hot enough to activate the glue on the foil, unless you know of a foil that doesn’t require heat that would work
I usually use heat transfer foil vinyl, but I'm curious how using embossing powder would go! Do you think that using a heat press would melt the powder effectively with a silicone sheet cover, or do you think it would be problematic with the glue? Another fun idea: engraving the leatherette journals and pouring the embossing powder into it! (Making sure of course that there's no PVC in the journals. 😆)
Yes, absolutely its possible but you might smash the powder and not get the raised effect, as far as pouring in the engraving, you would also have to get the glue in there well which could be problematic. But def worth a go!
You talk about cutting this out of paper theoretically, you could take a blank sticker material such as the every full page labels white not cut it down and make your stencil out of that because you could stick it in place I could stay in place until everything was done, and then it simply peels off easy
not so sure that is going to work :( have not tired the powder on wood, but regarding how small you can go, you could make a stamp that small for sure.
@@LaserEngraving911or could you engrave the leather first and then fill the engraving with the embossing powder? sorry for all the questions lol. Im getting my first diode laser tomorrow :)
You're using the term embossing incorrectly for leather. Embossing in leather means its being actually compressed/depth to the design via pressure and/or heat. What you have done is called stamping, not embossing. Very very different. Stamping is essentially painting/colouring. Embossing is pressing depth into the material.
I believe if you make the stamp with enough depth that you can probably combine the two processes. Emboss the leather using the positive and then apply the glue, or perhaps just fill the embossed mark on the leather with the powder, and then heat it up to fuse the powder into the embossing.
You always do the most interesting things with your laser, I really appreciate your creativity figuring out what else your laser can do.
Thank you very much! I love doing that kind of stuff!

Its pretty cool tech for sure! You should see the black!
Going to put my wife's logo for her new business on an order book for her - thanks so much for sharing
Fantastic!
People like this are gods to newbs like me
Awesome. Last step blew me away!. Great work mike. Thanks for the lesson.
Glad you liked it! your very welcome
Great video, awesome result, another project for the laser. Thanks for taking the time to make this video👍
No problem 👍 Thanks Dave!!
Nailed it! Great technique! Can’t wait to see the full video.
Coming soon!
Excellent, never thought of embossing with the laser before…always appreciate your content.
Thanks for watching!
so it was , mm this is interesting, then ah, oh wow followed so cute!
Thie was excellent. I got so many ideas floating around in my brain. Thanks!
Great to hear! I thought so too!
That is freakin' awesome!
Thanks!! Hope To Inspire!

I’d love to try this for some leather shoes! Great video thanks:)
Go for it!
Love it...I know a few B&B owners who would love to have monogrammed notebooks in their gift shops. This will sell in my craft boutique as well...
that's so cool, I hope you have fun trying this!

Very cool! So, much info! Thanks for the video.
You bet!
Screen printing is also a good method.
Great demo! I'm going to try this out on some PU journals.
Have fun!
Awesome 🤩
Thanks 🤗
Great video! Thank you!

The ducky stole the show ❤
How long does the glue stay usable on the pad, once closed up?
Fun little project!
Thanks!! I found the glue stay pretty wet and tacky for about 3-5min hope you have fun experimenting!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video! Very helpful.
If I may ask, how do you make the stamps? Do you have a tutorial? Or svg files for sale?
Yes I do! coming in another video

I wonder what it'd look like if you used a press to deboss the design into the leather first before doing this?
Probably pretty awesome!
That’s awesome 😮😮😮👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Great idea! always worth a try, anther material might be lino stamp material.
Hey ! I'm Franch guy. I see your chanel. Thx for helping ! I want to test this on Acrylique ? It's possible you think ?
Im not sure how the bond to acrylic would be, I think it would bond well, but not stand up to heavy abuse.
Do you have a video on how you made the stamp?
Yess!! The full tutorial is coming next week!
Out of curiosity, why did you create the stamp using acrylic as opposed to the rubber stamping sheets? Do you see a benefit of one over the other?
Rubber is very stinky and require extra clean up, and more expensive, acrylic works just fine
Would like to see if these could be used for debossing and pressure activated foils.
I think you need heat and pressure for those foils, thats why they use metal stamping dies, you cant heat the acrylic up hot enough to activate the glue on the foil, unless you know of a foil that doesn’t require heat that would work
how does the embossing hold up with wear and tear? Any special steps to waterproof?
Hold up great when done right, and it depends on the surface you are using it on as well, its water proof!
Did you do a video on making the actual acrylic debossing stamp?
Working on that!

Looks like a course powder coating paint... makes me wonder if I can adapt that stuff to do this (on account of I have 3kg of the stuff lol)
I thought so too but its very different even tried this method with powder coat paint with poor results, Embossing Powder is a different animal
Can you put embossing powder into an engrave (without the glue) and melt it instead of trying to paint fill an engraving?
possible yes! but make sure you sweep away all excess outside the engraving, and not sure if it bonds to wood and other substrates
You talk about cutting this out of paper theoretically, you could take a blank sticker material such as the every full page labels white not cut it down and make your stencil out of that because you could stick it in place I could stay in place until everything was done, and then it simply peels off easy
great idea!
I'd be concerned about if the sticker material can be heat cut without offgassing.
@@dasplague3103 when laser cutting, you should have the proper airflow that holds the offgassing away so offgassing cannot be an issue
I would like to use it to emboss some chopsticks but I'm not sure it would work since I would need some small features.
not so sure that is going to work :( have not tired the powder on wood, but regarding how small you can go, you could make a stamp that small for sure.
Have you tried using/making rubber stamps?@@LaserEngraving911
I think you should prep it with antistatic pad..
sure give it a try, I did not find that necessary, but if you think it would help go for it!
Can a similar embossing stamp be made with a diode laser using a black acrylic?
I don't see why not, it will probably take you a while to get he depth required suing a diode, but in theory, its do-able. 👍
@@LaserEngraving911or could you engrave the leather first and then fill the engraving with the embossing powder? sorry for all the questions lol. Im getting my first diode laser tomorrow :)
Just an odd thought. How do you think the embossing powder would work spread over an engraved area then lasered again?
tried it, its to heat sensitive to do it that way, heat gun works just right..
Me not knowing much about lasers and not knowing what laser you use , would a 10w diode laser be a possibility?@@LaserEngraving911
Where’s the video of you making the stamps?
Haven't uploaded it yet.. thanks for the reminder!
What is the smallest feature size you've tried to emboss?
wooooooow
its is pretty wow!! 😂
