This song is absolutely incredible to listen to if you see the King's Guard live. I'm in the drill platoon, which meant that I stood right next to the band in full uniform and with my rifle some time ago, and the song just comes alive when you're that close to the band.
Well, I get to hear them live. I'm in the same company as them, the 3rd company, and we perform together in tattoos all over Europe. I actually never get tired of hearing them play, even if it's the same 4-5 songs every day. In the drill, we also march through the band, and it's pretty cool when you hear the instruments all around you like that.
I remember conducting the Chaminade College Prep Concert Band of St. Louis,Mo.USA on the 40th anniversary of the Band in 1988. I loved the experience and naturally with a name like Hullverson it was doubly rewarding!
I played this on clarinet with the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp International Symphony Band in 1983. We were on a month long tour that summer. We went to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. The opening solo was played on trumpet.
I've heard this march since 1963, and it's a favorite of mine. This version features a clarinet playing the main melody solos. I've also heard arrangements with that solo played on a Swedish Kornett and even on a trumpet. Both the clarinet and the kornett sound equally good to me. The trumpet versions are a little harsh. I wonder what Hanssen's original arrangement used.
Funny how this is a march for the Valdres region which is in the southern parts of Norway, and have this picture be from Tromso which is way the heck up north in the country. Maybe a picture from Valdres would be more fitting!!!
0:21 to 0:42 when I play it on clarinet in the marching band, it’s so hard to be honest not sure if you’re Norwegian so I don’t know what language I should type in here lmao
@daoriginalaidaman Lol Well you guys must've been advanced :P I haven't joined my high school's Sr Band this year and I didn't see the christmas concert so I have no idea what they're doing this year. My instructor expected wayy too many things out of me and it was my first yea in Sr Band, Grade 10 year, and he gave me all the first flute parts and if drove NUTS trying to practice them for hours on end.
we got to play the oroginal transcription of this at the South Carolina Youth Wind Symphony, except we played it way faster its all high school all-state people, your ploayig this in 7th grade OllivetheHunn4?
Gammel Norsk Jegermarsj. Den norske løve. Kronprins Olavs Honnørmarsj. Fredriksten Marsj. Telemark Bataljons marsj. Gardemarsj. Bruremarsj. Norsk Turnermarsj. Jegermarsj IR 18. Plankenarsjen. Signalmarsj. V/P Sjefens Honnørmarsj. Med flere! ;)
Hei!
Yeah? Not the kind you have on your body, but with bands and drill teams? Cause those are the ones I'm talking about, I have no idea why you would call that a "dumb mistake".
Pluss brua. D

This song is just so sweet and pure. It reminds me of my childhood home of Connecticut.
Quite possibly the greatest concert march ever written.
I played this in college on concert tour, (Clarinet) and have never forgotten this great, outstanding march.
Jeg blir stolt hver gang jeg hører denne! Minner om 17. mai i Vallers....
Jag ryser!
One of the best marches ever written!
This is one of the most beautiful marches for band...so melodic and dignified
No one from Valdres has dignity, lol.
Has to be one of my favorite Marches. Beautiful performance
Wonderful!! Brings a smile to my face. . . .
Beautiful march!
Right on Derek! Hopefully we get to play it again this year - we payed $68 for it!!
Norges finaste marsch.
Situnadei Norges nasjonalmarsj 💕
A fine rendition of an absolutely beautiful march.

It's the original tempo.
This is no highschool band playing.
This is the kings guard. A REAl band.
My all time favorite March!❤️❤️

Elsker denne sangen. Thumbs up!

Beautiful! Our Richmond Concert Band is playing this in concert March 14, 2023!
I love this song. We're playing this for our band concert. It is beautiful. Thanks for posting.
I thank Naxos for a CD that brought me to know this Majestic March.
My favourite march to listen to
I LOVE this piece.
I like that clarinet solo.
I played this on clarinet with the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp International Symphony Band in 1983. We were on a month long tour that summer. We went to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. The opening solo was played on trumpet.
We are playing this in my 7th grade band and wow we got some work to do to catch up to were these musicians are at.
I love the oboe - It's the most beautiful-sounding woodwind I know of.
Sounds Great! As always with the Kings Guard
Fantastiskt fin marsch!

Drøyt 2.hver dag???

The original used a soprano cornet (eb)...so i've heard
Cesare Beccaria I love the Swedish kornett in this one
ua-cam.com/video/lRd-JklKQzE/v-deo.html
+Cesare Beccaria" I wonder what Hanssen's original arrangement used." We don't know. The first time it was played was in 1904 in Oslo.
The original arrangement was played on a Eb Cornet.. :)
We played this last year in band :) Although our preformance was NOTHING compared to this!
Totally! Background instruments ROCKS!!
Funny how this is a march for the Valdres region which is in the southern parts of Norway, and have this picture be from Tromso which is way the heck up north in the country. Maybe a picture from Valdres would be more fitting!!!
The Mjøs bridge is even closer.
Tromsø oser Norge. Det gjør dessverre ikke (lengre) Eidsvoll....
Ahhhhh this valdres starting is a clarinet solo. Nice man. Always heard trumpet solo till sick of it already :D
great to hear this done by Norse guys themselves
elsker denne!
beautiful
Nokken burde laga film om kampane i Valdres 1940. Musikken er alt skriven
You make a good point there. Amen to that.
I absolutely LOVE playing the bass clarinet part to this song. Every time we play this, it's stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
Norges nasjonalmarsj 👍🏻❤️
we're doing this song for Sr Band this year :D
Jøss.. Nesbrua ser mye større ut på bilde....
Valdresmarsjen, og så ingen bilder fra Valdres!!
J'aime ca. :)
Hater å spille denne. Dritslitsom og repetitiv. Men fantastisk fin!
This is the right tempo. All others too fast. Bravo!
Robert B Clark
Well, the only missing here is the Eb cornet, instead of that Clarinet !!!! The original Valdres marsj is written for Eb cornet !! :) :) :)
Robert B Clark Maybe, I like it faster, but good version by all means.
Right tempo of old ladies, fairies and beginning band. HAH!
Roger Wilco
Well I promise this is far from any beginner band ;-) It's played by HMKG music band
jeg elsker å spille denne :D
YNDLINGSSANGEN!!!
Probably the only good youtube recording I've seen so far
Fond memories of son's wind ensemble
Valdres is a nice place in norway with great food and nature, i am living and working in Valdres and i like it pretty much : )))
Valdres isn't too bad! Where are you from? Are you still living and working in Valdres?
I know I'm replying to an 8 year old comment...
0:21 to 0:42 when I play it on clarinet in the marching band, it’s so hard to be honest not sure if you’re Norwegian so I don’t know what language I should type in here lmao

omg they sound a thousand times better then our band haha.
Well these are some of the best band musicians in the country too :)
playing this!!!!!!!!!!!!! im in 8th grade now
Yup. We horns have a saying. If you want the trombones to sound like horns tell them to put their hand in the bell and miss every other note.
Fabelaktig !
Fint som snus
spiller denne her med lillesandskolekorps
nice
I am in Vællers
@fogoofishis cool. im playing this too. I play oboe :)
BNSS was here :D
i kno whut u mean.....oboe is my fave woodwind, and alto is the 2nd. but french horn is my favorite out of ALL the instruments.
we got to play the oroginal transcription of this at the South Carolina Youth Wind Symphony, except we played it way faster
its all high school all-state people, your ploayig this in 7th grade OllivetheHunn4?
Kult:P Ka vanskelighetsgrad e da på dinna?
good
Gammel Norsk Jegermarsj. Den norske løve. Kronprins Olavs Honnørmarsj. Fredriksten Marsj.

At last a performance of this tune taken at the proper tempo. -- all others too fast
Holmenkollmarsjen:)
SI - marsjen! 😁😁
Haha, ok, just so we understand one another. :-)
Yeah? Not the kind you have on your body, but with bands and drill teams? Cause those are the ones I'm talking about, I have no idea why you would call that a "dumb mistake".
OOoo, I just realized, I've got a better version of this...somewhere.
enig med drosja95
@Taxi58 Norsk konsertmarsj er 120 Bpm, gatemarsj er 112 Bpm:D
Helt enig! Det går litt sakte, ikke sant? Men fin musikalsk fremføring uansett:)
ya we did only a little easier version..... but it was very hard as a flute player hahahaha....
