I played trombone on this recording. It was my first year in the band.
Can't stop humming this song, it's an awesome song and played beautifully...Very powerful piece
During a visit to Helgelandsmoen in the summer of 1901, Johannes Hanssen heard the signal of the Valdres battalion (later the West Oppland Infantry Regiment no. 6). The battalion did not have its own march at that time, Hanssen therefore wrote "Valdres march". The march was built from the battalion's familiar signal and a hall inspired by a beat, this was also heard at Helgelandsmoen. In 1904, the 30-year-old Johannes Hanssen had "Valdres-March" performed for the first time with the 2nd Brigade's music corps, where he himself played tenor horn.
Before World War II, the march had also been released for piano, and Hanssen had written an arrangement for the Radio Orchestra, the forerunner of the Broadcasting Orchestra. In 1937, the march was made available to everyone by being published by Norsk Musikkforlag. In 1947 he arranged the large symphony orchestra and in 1954 Øivin Fjeldstad took the march on a large orchestral tour in the USA. Thus, it was ensured international success. Today's version for corps was written by Johannes Hanssen in 1954, a full 50 years after the march was performed for the first time. Johannes Hanssen conducted the final version with the Armed Forces Staff Music Corps in May 1955.

I must be at least 40 of these views...
+Thomas Pylant Glad you're enjoying it!
Me, too!!!!
I've played this march (euphonium section) with two different community bands of widely varying abilities. Preparing to play again for an upcoming concert and wanted to refresh myself as to how it SHOULD sound! Marvelous job, Marines!
you go euphonium!!! euphonium is one of my 12 instruments i play! :D
@@esterstromstedt7686 Showing off I see
I have heard of euphonium. Can it be treated?
To Splodinate Kabloominate:
It's not showing off if you can do it. Virtually every good player I've ever met doubles at the very least. Yourself included, I would guess. Besides, instrument technicians have to play every instrument they can reasonably expect to repair. I just tell multiple instrument players, "The good ones always double."
my quiet French horn solo at 1:45....then the trumpets blast in.
What a legend.
Bill Zsembery on first horn.
one of the greatest songs ever :D
Forgot the name of this for years after playing it and couldn't find it again. Thanks POMB! You guys rock!
i think ive listened to this at least 100 times. we are playing this for band festival in 2 days lol. fantastic piece and even better recording
Absolutely amazing, I hope this one wins!
BEST MARCH EVER!!!! CANNOT STOP HEARING IT!!!
Beautiful version-- thank you!
Sounds like the eefer is playing the little clarinet obliggato by itself (normally the 1sts are also playing this)....you can hear its tone color in the lower middle register.
Elise Curran We played this from a set of Norwegian parts, not the US edition arranged by Glenn Cliff Bainum. The trumpet soloist was Rick Lehman, playing an Eb cornet, and the clarinet soloist was John Barclay, playing in Eb clarinet.
Easily one of my favorite performances by the Marine Corps Band!
No dislikes because this recording is AMAZING
Great march.
I played the trumpet solo several times with Sun Prairie Area Community Band.
i play tenor sax and our junior high band is playing this for UIL competition.
Same Bro,
I haven't been able to stop humming this song, my friends are annoyed with me!
Marine Band: Thank You for this! It is one of my favorites! Along with the Badonweiller Marsch....

I love this song since I was at Mr. Hobson Band Class
Great clarinet solo!!!

@@itstotesmelirn1725 1:32 there is a clarinet piccolo solo
Played by John Barclay on Eb clarinet.
When I was in 8th grade (11 years ago) I remember playing this as one of our contest songs and me and the other snare drum had to play it every day until it was clean.
Yes, very good for you and your band to play this in 8th grade.
that’s amazing, i’m a freshman playing this and can’t imagine playing it a year ago 😂
I wonder where’s the Trumpet Kid is at in his life right now.
Ellie Raspberries Alas, he passed many years ago.
I hope this march wins March mania
+Jay Chakrabarti Yeah same

For some reason, I feel that the beginning trumpet solo could definitely played more march like and triumphantly. Other than that, this an amazing recording.
Christian Osborn Thought the same thing! Just played this last weekend under the baton of Col Arnald Gabriel and the trumpet player played it more "march-like"
The original has tenuto markings for the trumpet solo. I kind of like the difference between this recording to most you hear on UA-cam or live.
Sup
I played this when I 13
I totally believe you
I am right now :) we have a simplified version though
The tasteful maraca cranially suspend because government rapidly dam amid a substantial drive. wretched, assorted danger
The straight mouth postmeiotically talk because pine prominently coil under a spiteful farm. possessive, giant softball
