I wonder how many "jazz guys" hate that he has vibrato and bends strings. I love it, but it's so much more bluesy than jazz at times. Alex is beyond badass, BTW.
If any jazz player hates bending, vibrato etc. then he should play piano. They are very specific and can be beautiful ways of articulation just specific only for a guitar. Morover nobody told that these techniques are forbidden in jazz, especially taking into account blues roots of jazz where eg. bending is very important.
Sorry late, Jazz guy here. Vibrato is widely used in jazz. Bending less so, but not because it's against the rules or anything; it's difficult to bend on 13s. Guitarists have adapted by infusing slides and grace notes instead. Skolnick's jazz approach is fresh and delightful.
I do not mind nuts but add some feeling Skolnick. Its not about technicality, Play, but play what is feeling. I hear it but you need some greens and chittlins' for christ sakes. All love trust. You're an inspiration.
That's the coolest sounding outside lick I've ever heard! Far out man!

i cant believe anybody could hate vibrato
Jazz has plenty of vibrato and some guitarists use occasional string bending (Kenny Burrell, Django Reinhart).
real "Jazz guys" love all music

Jazz, sometimes the licks "don't sound right".... seems accurate.
Sounds freaky and scary at the same time. A bit too advanced for me to grasp.

in a guitar lesson full of complicated shit, focussing on examples restricted to the concepts being demonstrated. if only he'd listen. lol.
that is fucking hard to learn
Ridge Brown the way he talks doesn't help much either
Ridge Brown he's keeping it too far out for my taste. it works really well if you bring it back in sooner
Stacked fourths move it half step.. Ok, simple stuff
The notes don't sound wrong. They sound like jazz.
great sound
Por que los gringos hablan tanto para enseñar un pinche licks!!!
