Alex such a humble person. One day he came to my restaurant with testament, great people all of them super nice and friendly. I remember talking to Alex, he introduced him self to me, had a great convo. mad respect for them for sure
It’s true. Every Gen xer who was metal and not grunge I talk to when talking about the big 4 but who is in that conversation always without exception forgets Testament. People ALWAYS say.. Suicidal, Sepultura, uhh… and I hit em with TESTAMENT, they always go.. oh yeah?!! Like, shit, man?
Eric Peterson is one of the most underrated power down-pickers. His right hand is a blur when he gets on it. His solo's with James Murphy on Low were amazing, too.
"My dad's guitar, the strings were like that far from (the fretboard)" Anyone who learned to play guitar in the 80s or 90s on an acoustic guitar knows this pain.
I spent several years trying to play thrash on a cheap classical guitar. Made almost no progress but when I got a decent electric with good action I was shocked how good I was. Busting my ass on that hard ass guitar prepped me for an easier to play guitar.
The New Order album reshaped my musical identity at the time and shortly after I had begun playing guitar. I don’t listen to Testament as much these days but omg just listening to these two riffing on some of the old tunes makes me wanna take a deep dive again. Much love.
An amazing and extremely underrated guitar duo!!! Alex Skolnick is a PHENOMENAL lead guitar player, and Eric Peterson is a PHENOMENAL riff MASTER!!! They sound so amazing together every time they harmonize together. They were already incredible together since their debut album The Legacy came out.
Eric seems to almost be the forgotten member of Testament, the sole original member who has been on every album (since Skolnick left for almost 10 years before coming back)
Being 70s kids I knew they'd mention KISS and people are always shocked at how big of an influence they truly where back then. The riff for Parasite at the time must of been mind blowing.
I couldn't agree more about Marty! I'm also highly influenced by Jeff Loomis, who's style I feel was genetically engineered from Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, and a few drops of Dimebag sprinkled in!
Burnt Offerings, Apocalyptic City, Trial by Fire and The Preacher should come back into their setlists! And I wouldn't mind The Fall of Sipledome either!
Fuck yeah!!!! I've never heard them play Apocalyptic City live. I would love to hear that one. Trial By Fire is just about the perfect song for the pit.
I rarely go out my way to meet "celeb" types, but I'd go WAY out of my way to meet these two guys. They represent everything I love about metal, and are inspirational from a guitar POV. Alex for his lead playing and sheer skill, Eric for his insane riffage and skill. I may take heat for saying it, but I have always felt that Peterson is the best riff writer in metal, hands down.
Eric was a huge influence on me when I was first learning to play in the late 80s early 90s. He is a library of riffs all on his own. You will get no shit from me for your opinion. Both Alex and Eric are big influences but I loved Eric's thrashing more than Alex's shredding.
No heat from me at all. Eric Peterson is a phenomenal riff MASTER!!!! It is amazing how many amazing riffs that he come out with and continues to do so.
@@sproaty I liked the live production of Return To The Apocalyptic City album more. It had a much heavier tone, vs Live At The Fillmore (which was fucking awesome!) ...and to top it, Chuck's vocals were much more powerful, despite it being an EP.

Oh how i wish i could find a guitarist to jam with. Its really awesome when u can find someone else who u can actually play in key, harmonize, change key etc.
Saw Testament with Anthrax and Sworn Enemy at the House of Blues in New Orleans back in June, got Gene's stick autographed too. Pretty badass for my first concert ever🤘🤘
Last time I saw them was last year as the first of five bands on slayers farewell tour. It was an outdoor facility and with the bright sunlight, I could barely see them on stage, but they sounded great.
"The Monkees" is perhaps the most metal comment I've ever heard. Eric Peterson is probably the most underrated guitarist ever and aside from maybe Danny Lilker, the most metal guy on the planet.
Over the wall, Alone in the dark (my favorite in album), practice what you preach, low and shades of war, eerie inhabitants, souls of black and face in the sky, the ritual and so many lies! These are my all times favorites.
Dang. I saw them live on the Practice What You Preach tour. Walked in before the show started and saw some long-haired guy sitting on a speaker off to the side.. not on stage. Nobody really around him and I asked my friend is that...? Let's go see. Walked up and said are you ...? Yep. It was Eric just casually siting there, legs dangling and observing the crowd. He was super nice and down to earth.. signed our tickets. Very cool and it was a great show.
Just goes to show how good a player Alex is when he came to play with The Trans-Siberian Orchestra.Saw him several times with them he was a really good fit for them.Just the fact that he got to play with who is arguably the best live band ever speaks volumes.I think he became even better after he played with them.He also played on some of their classic songs in the studio especially on the Lost Christmas Eve record. To see a player like him end up with them is really something special.
Alex is one of my favorite guitar players of all time. I love these guys. I never felt like this band got nearly the respect they deserve. IMHO, Testament always pissed all over Metallica. MUCH more talent.
Saw Testament's Practice What You Preach show at a small club with no more than a few hundred people in Tucson, Az back in the day; same venue I later saw Jimmy Cliff. Was an amazing show to say the least.

Testament is literal THRASH defined with SKILL! So underrated.
Hi Kevin
Give them better production on their first 4 albums and they replace slayer in the big 4 in my opinion
@@mattcumiskey7653 they replace anthrax with no changes, anthrax is incredibly over rated and testament and slayer are badass
@@keighanmarshall9200 Very true. Anthrax is so boring, but I guess they were OG on the scene before Testament hence the Big 4.

Total agreement. The guy is a beast!
I agree. I always felt Alex Skolnick was Testament's true guitar hero. But when I saw them live, I bowed down to the mighty Eric Peterson.
Nathan Dufresne fuck man keeko
Indeed. Murphy was a monster on Low. Monster tone too.
"Practice what you preach" is definitely one of the best metal albums. such an underrated band!!
the sound quality is kinda off

I felt the same about The Haunting
