When someone is running certain midi devices already, it is important to check, if midi1 is already occupied by any other device. This device doesn´t work anymore, if not shifted elsewhere. The Korg device occupies midi1 after having implemented the procedure as shown in the video. As mentioned in the video, the procedure shown solves the issue, when the nanokontrol2 is not recognized by the Korg editor. When someone installs the drivers and the Korg editor and the Korg device is recognized, then there is no need to edit the registry.
Someone commented, that after having removed "midi1" nothing had worked anymore. After having deleted "midi1" one has to proceed with the installation as described, so that the place of "midi1" can be filled with the entry of the korg device.
If the Korg editor recognizes the nanokontrol2 device, then it should be properly installed. When there is an issue using the device with Ableton, this might be due to certain settings in Ableton. Unfortunately I haven't any experience with Ableton. Therefore I cannot contribute any hint unfortunately to solve this problem. But you may check the manual or the internet, which settings in Ableton are important for midi controllers to be recognized.
My video is only Windows related. How NanoKontrol2 is set up on a MAC or if and how it does run on Monterey, I can unfortunately offer no experiences. But you can google certain keywords and try to find related entries. The Korg Editor for MAC can be downloaded here: www.korg.com/us/support/download/software/0/159/1355/ Other links, that ma be useful: i.korg.com/uploads/Support/nanoKONTROL2_PG_E1_634479709631760000.pdf //forums.acoustica.com/viewtopic.php?t=20044
If you have in mind to assign keys on the keyboard to controles with the NK software, as far as I know this is not possible. The software is related to the NK device.
@@high-tekk1122 Ah, at first I thought you have setting up keyswitches in mind. As far as I can see the NK software is programmed for setting up the NK device. If there were a possibility to control CCs with the keyboard, there wouldn't be any need to use the NK device. It rather depends on you DAW, to what extend you can use keyboard short cuts. For example, the DAW Reaper has the option to set up so called "actions" to control a wide range of parameters.
I followed your steps until I had to delete midi1, I deleted it and then I tried to restart the KORG driver setup, but it didn't read it.. Any idea, why?
As I understand the issue, the driver setup didn't start. When an exe file does not start, this can have serveral causes. I would recommend to search the web for solutions. I did this on Windows 7 and I have not tested if the procedure applies also to higher versions of Windows.
Just bought this today, why didnt korg add a power on / off switch , its really not acceptable to keep unplugging / plugging in the power cord in able to switch modes, but apart from this, it seems a good piece of kit.
This would be a nice feature to switch modes in this way. Maybe a technological solution wasn't at hand or easy to implement at the time, when the device has been designed.
AMW Music I’ve now bought a usb3 hub with on / off buttons for each usb socket, not tried it yet, but this could be a simple and great solution to korg not putting a simple power button on its product.. the kontroller is really good otherwise
i don't know how to connect knobs to the vst which i am using. first knob is doing Panning, but how to change that? second slide does the mod-wheel effect, and that's it.
One can assign controller numbers to the knobs in the Korg Editor, and after having done that, one has to save the settings. Normally VSTis have a MIDI learn function, which can be triggered by clicking the right mouse button over a contoller field and selecting "MIDI learn". The knobs can be assigned by moving them after the MIDI learn function has been triggered. It is important that record is armed on the track, where the learn function is used.
As it seems, your DAW recognizes NanoKontrol2 as a keyboard. I haven't come across such an issue so far. Could you check in the preferences of your DAW, how the respective devices are registered and what modes are enabled or disabled? In the video I open the preferences at 6:40. Maybe different settings could be tested, if they work.
Do you know if I can use the Nano Kontrol2 to control my Motif ES Rack Sound Module ( For Program changes when playing Live ) without having to connect to a Computer ?
Unfortunately I don´t know that. The Motif Rack has a certain kind of USB input, but I don´t know if it can receive messages directly from the NanoKontrol2. In former times I had a Motif Rack myself, but connected to a master keyboard and a computer. For live performances to have a notebook at hand may be a good solution. I have found this link, maybe it can help you to find a solution: yamahasynth.com/forum/midi-controller-with-sliders-to-control-volume-of-performance-parts
i can get the DAW mode working, but not the CC mode. when i swith to CC mode, my DAW doesn't recognise the unit. i am trying to use this as a CC controller for Vienna Instruments Pro.
yes, I added it and it shows up in Studio One. i can use it in DAW mode, but not CC. i'm going to return it and use the joysticks on my StudioLogic SL88 and my expression pedal for now. until i can find another fader controller. by the way, i thoroughly enjoyed your presentation - nicely done, and relaxing! :) thanks!
Thank you very much for your kind words! Unfortunately I don´t have Studio One and cannot say something about it´s specifics at the moment. But as it seems, you could configure NanoKontrol2 in the editor ...
I would like to suggest to look into the registry and check up, at which place the NanoKontrol2 has been registered. If it is not at midi1, maybe it may be at another place (in my video you can see that it is at midi1), then one can try to delete this other entry instead of midi1. I have also seen, that some treat midi1 and midi2 at the same time and then it works. By the way, if you make such changes, always draw an image of your OS partition first.
As far as I know one can use the transport buttons, but only in the DAW mode, in which one can control the functions of the DAW. The video here refers to the CC mode, in which one can control the CC parameters. If it is possible to have two devices plugged in and to control with one of them the DAW functions and with the other the CC parameters I cannot say at the moment, while I have only one device.
Please check the Midi settings in the Korg Editor, if everything has been set appropriately. See page 9 of the manual: i.korg.com/uploads/Support/KONTROL%20Editor_E1_633664615156030000.pdf
Whew ... that's scary! As soon as I installed the Korg Nanocontrol Editor the Focusrite USB ASIO driver stopped working. Now the Nanocontrol Editor won't uninstall, hanging while "preparing to uninstall". :( I hate Windows!
Yes,of course thats not your fault, thanks for your video. I had a bad feeling anyway before trying it, drivers that needs tweeks in the registry to work are a bit scary to me, and to tell the truth: I don't know why, but I had more often problems with drivers froma asian companies (esp. Samsung) than with drivers from other parts of the world. Often they produce great hardware, but the software seems to come at least from another "computer development and usage culture". I had a backup and system is up and running again, but before the Focusrite driver was damaged in a way that at least I couldn't repair it, even a complete de- and reinstallation of the Focusrite driver did not work.
Just in case anyone gets scared by my report to try out Prima Luce Sounds good tutorial: I found out that a partial broken USB hub was involved in breaking my system. That does not explain why the Korg driver was uninstallable or a reinstallation of the Focusrite driver didn't fixed the problem, but might have caused the trouble in the first place. If that's the case it's highly unlikely that others might experience the same problems.
The main purpose of this video is to show a solution for the problem, when the Korg Editor doesn't recognize the NanoControl 2 device. I was focusing on the CC mode, for instance, because in the Korg Editor one can assign controller numbers to knobs and faders. I didn't feel that I had to cover the DAW mode as well, because the main focus has been this problem mentioned. As to me, I mainly use NanoControl2 in the CC mode.
