We often take a day trip to Dartmouth. Bus 120 from Paignton to Kingswear then short walk downhill to the ferry over to Dartmouth. Spend time at our favourite cafe which is tucked away up one of the side streets near the church. Going back the long way by bus 92 from Dartmouth to Totnes then back to the outskirts of Paignton. Scenic day out when the weather is clear.
Worked in Dartmouth from 1975 to 1977 and have been back to visit many times since - a simply sublime town. Thanks for this excellent portrait of the place!
You definitely have to go back in the summer. Walk out to the castle and take the ferry back. Or take the steam train from Kingswear to Paignton. Such a beautiful town. A hidden gem. My home. Thank you.
Thanks for showing us around Dartmouth and it is nice place to go and stay for a holiday and all lovely buildings and beaches and the seagulls as well and the shops and restaurants and boats and I bet it will be busy in the summer time thanks Neil
🇬🇧❤️ I've been to Devon many times, but never been to Dartmouth, but I tell everyone, when I retire, that's wear I'm going to live, buy the sea. Beautiful. 🎀
Another fabulous video thank you, I also find the snipits of conversation picked up amusing.. as I do in everyday life when out and about, my elderly Mum often says "we will never find out what that was about" 😆
Thanks for going to Dartmouth, grew up in the town, in fact my whole family did, remember running around these streets as a kid, fishing on the seafront and playing footy at Coronation Park plus getting up to general mischief, remember falling in the boat float when I was jumping from boat to boat, fortunately the tide was out far enough. 😀 👍
Love your videos, I live on the bank of the River Dart towards Totnes, so not far from Dartmouth. When you next visit Dartmouth, at the cannon, walk forward past the telephone box and turn left. Past the slip to the car ferry There is a lovely street, with many Tudor buildings, down to the Bayard's Cove/Quay.old maritime area...keep up the good work!!..😄
Just discovered your channel - loving the content and so nice to be able to watch without music spoiling the experience, and hearing the natural sounds of birds and the sea rolling in. love the information given in sub titles - just perfect. Thank you. Dartmouth is one of our favourite places to go to, and look forward to visiting later in the year.
Yes the seagulls are very noisy. Perhaps they just need to be fed more !! We have seagulls also but are not as noisy!! Beautiful Area. Love to see all the boats. Thanks.
Thoroughly enjoyed that saunter around especially as I accidentally came across the video and it’s very current. I love Dartmouth out of season and was very pretty for Xmas.
Thanks for showing, I have not been there. It looks good to visit. I am thinking of going to that part of the coastline so maybe I might go there and take the ferry rides.
We love Dartmouth we would go for their Christmas celebration because we lived in Paignton, and we always went to Brixham and Torquay, Thanks for all these great videos so far everywhere you've gone we've been.
We went on a cruise down the Dart from Totnes to Dartmouth many years ago, we saw the Naval College and Agatha Christie's house peeping out of the trees. It's a beautiful area to visit. The day we were there it was scorching hot.
I went to Dartmouth a few years ago, loved it! i took a lot of lovely photos its such a beautiful area, i recommend going in summer it looks even more beautiful and maybe going on a boat trip, theres more to explore, round the corner is the small Dartmouth Castle that is nestled on the rocks near the sea. It's a shame some of the lovely buildings had work being done to them in this video and had scaffolding up though & those seagulls were being extra noisy lol, i've looked at videos recently of Devon by drone and looks incredible! would love to live there, thanks for the video.
If you turn right at the cannon and follow the river seaward for 5 mins, you will come across Bayards cove fort, with some interesting houses en route.😊
I was so looking forward to going there too Thought it was miles away, so went and jumped in the car, set off and there was road closures so thought I'd never get to it and left!
Dartmouth is lovely, been there many times, there is a nostalgic steam train that runs from Paignton to Kingswear across the river mouth. Good places to eat and drink locally. A very nice day out. There is also a ferry that runs up the river Dart to Totnes which is also a town worth visiting and a good boat ride too.
We stopped off at Dartmouth on the way to a campsite a few miles away. It's lovely to see the bits we missed. Had a great holiday in Devon. West Bay was amazing, and Lynton and Lynmouth. Lovely memories of these places. Thank you so much.
We really enjoyed your video of Dartmouth. It’s a place we are hoping to visit in May. We have never been to Devon before, always gone to St.Ives in Cornwall. This year we thought we would have a change. We will be staying at Salcomb and hope to visit Dartmouth,so the video has been very helpful. Thank you for sharing. Have you done any videos on Salcomb?
The last time I visited Dartmouth, the ship from the Onedin Line was moored up in the harbour. They also had a restaurant called Fairfax that provided a great service. It was about 1971, but I can still recall that wonderful place. 😀
A lovely spot indeed ( especially in springtime) . On our first visit ( to stay in Kingswear) in 2010 we were thrilled to find a cruise ship in the estuary, just out from the ferry pontoon. A rare event indeed, not that this delightful area needs any embellishment what with the steam train, paddle steamer and NT properties nearby, we’ve been back 4 times to stay. Thanks from Oz 🦘🇦🇺
You need to go on the paddle steamer , the boat trip up the coast and also the steam train to Paignton in the summer. The cafe that looks like a railway station was built for Brunel so his trains would go to Dartmouth It is the original building.
Thoroughly enjoyed that saunter around especially as I accidentally came across the video and it’s very current. I love Dartmouth ot of season and was very pretty for Xmas.
The platform 1 restaurant was actually the train station for the railway that was never built as I believe Permission could not be got to build a bridge across the river Dart thus no railway line ever came to Dartmouth and the station is all that remains
@@GimbalWalkTV As a local I can confirm this. It remained an official fully functioning railway station that never saw a single yard of track right up until British Rail sold the line from Paignton to Kingswear in the 1970s. The Tim Traveller UA-cam channel has a great video on the subject: ua-cam.com/video/tcPrm5Tb-SA/v-deo.html
🤣🤣 at the start I tried to film a cannon I bent down a bit then moved backwards to get it all in Felt my foot disappear and realised i was backing up over the edge 😂😂😂
I live there right now lol and having my childhood there is honestly so fun, I live on one of the boats and waking up this perfect town is such a dream!
Haven't been but it looks lovely and I really like the fact the sea gulls are so vocal! If you'd dropped a biscuit you'd have been mobbed - I only know this because I did just that in Whiotby once and you should have heard the noise - well I did throw them a few haha😁 Thanks for another great walk.
When you visit just keep your takeaway food close to you and covered as those gulls are well known to grab everything edible, even the flake from your icecream as you eat it.😊
@@cannyexplorer5357 It's funny you should say that. In Whitby a gull flew down and grabbed the fish that was lay on top of my fish and chips tray as I was walking. When the fish fell to the floor, it went mental polishing it off, but you know with that open and closing beak as the fish was still hot lol. People around found it hilarious! 😂
Just looked through a few videos ,can't see Weymouth, this is one you should consider if you have not already done so.we get around a lot of the coast line in our motorhome,,getting back to the videos now 🥰
Delightful walk and your video is an excellent introduction to a lovely seaside town. The highlight of course was the fish cages. I was waiting for the moment when nausea caused by the smell would have you lose balance and topple over into the murky waters of the Dart River. Alas, that did not happen. My favourite building was the grand Royal Castle Hotel, which is spectacular. I am very tempted by the apple pies in the windows of the Sloping Deck Restaurant (I had to look that one up in Google Maps). I am hoping to visit this town one day.
I've only discovered your videos today and was very interested, I went to Dartmouth 4 years ago, we wanted to go to the castle first and the sign said it was situated in the town, but it was wrong!. We decided to walk to it, thinking it would be a short walk, we ended up walking nearly an hour, it's quite a way from the town, but did finally find it at mouth of the estuary looking out to sea 🌊. We had to pay admission in the giftshop which had the most gorgeous view through a big glass window by the till, I just stood there for ages just staring at the view!, we had good look round the castle and one of the staff told us there was a small boat ferry every twenty to forty minutes which takes you back to the harbour in the town. I wish we'd known about it as it would've saved us a very long and tiring walk, I loved Dartmouth and would love to go again if get a chance!. It was nice to see your very recent video there and can see that it hasn't changed that much even with the pandemic, seeing a lot of shops and businesses close. I like your channel and can't wait to see where you go next!.
My husband and I used to live in Brixham until 4 yrs ago when we moved back up country when he got ill . Sadly he died this January . . We used to go over on the ferry regularly and buy fish and chips from Rock fish . We would sit on a bench under the wooden shelter looking out over the water . Then my husband would have ice cream from the little shop next to Rockfish as you came up off the ferry . Then we would drive to Slapton Sands before returning home .
Great video as always mate I love this area visit it every year nice to see it out of season will be good to compare it if you do it in the holiday season and I would love it if you did film the steam train trip its such a great route along the sea and the steam boat trip witch I will have to do this year have you been to Totnes its another great place to visit just up the river all the best and keep up the great work
You're out of season and you seem to be walking in the road a lot, I wonder what it could be like in full season as the footpaths, like a lot of old English seaside towns, are very narrow. nice vid. The next one would be from the town centre walking all the way to Blackpool Beach a long walk
Been a few times to Dartmouth via steam train from Paignton then boat trip to Totnes. Great place to wander round. Agatha Christie's house is the other side of the Dart.
Thanks for showing our favourite place- just for the benefit of people who won't know, the toilets on the embankment are 20p and card payment but there are free toilets in the market just further along from the buttermilk.
Love Dartmouth it gets very busy in the summer parking get bad so the last couple of times we used the steam train fron painton also if its not to choppy the ferry from Torquay I'm like you don't like getting to near the edge
I've been to Dartmouth a few times on day trips via the steam train when holidaying nearby. It's a lovely picturesque town but each time I've gone it's always been either overcast or wet 🌧😂
Lived in Dartmouth as a boy before "getting away" into the RN. Much has changed but the biggest shock of all was to see that Dave's Cafe in Foss Street is now a knicker shop. Did anyone see a bank?

Have a lovely weekend ❤️❤️
Have been to Dartmouth on the way to Greenaway, A. Christie house, worth a visit. Liked the town here, wouldn't mind going back.

Am gonna film here again in summer
Another great & fantastic & intresting video of DARTMOUTH | Discovering coastal holiday town of Dartmouth Devon!.💚💚

Sometimes I drop the odd bit of music onto my videos - but only if the crazy wind has ruined the natural sound recording
I never bein to Dartmouth I hear it’s quite good especially the harbour and town centre

Hearing so much about it
