Over the past month I’ve been bingeing all of your videos , they have so much personality and love put into them they’re so addicting and have made me want to get back into toy collecting:)! The panels to plastic videos have to be some of my favorites. The name and style of the videos remind me of Pixel Dans “from pixels to plastics” videos, which are the videos that got me to start watching UA-cam in the first place :)
Thanks for really diving into my content and taking the time to give me such fantastic feedback! I’m glad that the love I have for this hobby comes through! I actually didn’t know about Dan’s similar videos - I’ll have to check those out as well!
Humberto Ramos is definitely my favourite among the artist featured here. I remember seeing his art and it was unique enough to leave a deep impression in my mind. Following him would probably be J Scott Campbell, the way he draw women is just *chef's kisses* :D
I think another element in the McFarlane Spidey that sells it as McFarlane is the chin. McFarlane used to draw Spider-Man's chin slightly protruding from under the mask. This was particularly noticeable in McFarlane's artwork when he drew Spidey from the side, and this is particularly noticeable in this figure when you look at it from the side.
Todd Mcfalrane is my favorite Spider-Man interpretation. The way Todd twists and contorts his body to make him more spider like is amazing and his gritty style and splash pages are so fun to look at.
Unrelated I know. But the DC Collectibles/DC Direct figs are the figs that actually introduced me to the idea of Artist specific action figures. From the early Jim Lee Batman Hush figs to the DC Designer series. Some of the figs from DC Direct are some of my favourites TBH. Mostly because they look like they came straight off the artists' drawing tables. Also,do the Superman video. That would be AWESOME!
LOVED this video! I consider myself a maniacal Spider-Man fan but even I learned new things here like the J. Scott Cambell spider climbing DOWN his chest?! I had his Spider-Man drawings all over my walls growing up and I never noticed. Can’t wait to see more, cheers!
Mark Bagley has always been my favorite Spidey artist Just something about the way he draws Spider Man just looks so Classic but also very modern in a way
Absolutely love this content!! I would love to see you do this with other characters. I would love a deep dive with Fantastic Four! So many cool figures in different styles have come out for the entire team and I think it would make for a fantastic vid.
One thing I also think speaks to the 2004 Spidey being Todd’s is that extra strong, long jawline. Todd drew Spidey with a real distinct shovel chin and the 2004 figure shows that.
That would be fun! The Star Wars UA-cam market is tough to crack, and I tend to get the names of the characters wrong (especially Ewoks), but I do love me some Black Series...
Funnily enough, my absolute favorite Spidey art in recent years has been J Scott Campbell’s (mostly variant) covers. Since around 2007ish, he has incorporated variations of both the 2002 and 2004/2007 Raimi logos INCREDIBLY well into comic art. They’re more stylized, but damn, as a guy who never liked the 2004 Raimi back logo (I always preferred the 2002 one), I have to admit, that logo looks freaking immaculate in his art! Pairing that with occasional underarm webbing, a long lean yet built body, as well as TNAS-like reflective webbing on the suit, and it’s immediately one of my favorite modern looks for the character personally. I don’t think we’d ever get a true figure of his post-2007ish look nowadays sadly, as most Hasbro figures today simply refuse to let go of that god awful generic front logo I see everywhere lol Oh yeah, speaking on that Spider-Man classics figure, I’m I’m starting to think that the lenses (that tbh look more 90s Bagley in figure form) might have been a misfire rather than a callback to the 298-early 300s art. Not only does it lack the necessary width, but the Battle Ravaged Variant also adjusted the lenses to look MUCH closer to his general art. The lack of consistency between them REALLY bothered me as a kid, especially since the 301 issue it included never matched the figure’s lenses at all anyway
Humberto ramos is my favorite artist out of all the people that have drawn Spider-Man, his art is just unique and spectacular. I hope one day to have a figure of his Spider-Man
This is a awesome video. Toybiz were always on point with their comic artist into action figure form, just wish Hasbro can do something like this. I do want to see Superman next! Keep up the great work!! 🔥🙌🏼
I gotta be honest, the “McFarlane” figure really only looks like that in the eyes IMO, otherwise it’s still a great figure but definitely a different body type and spider logo
Love your Spider-Man videos! Great content and love for the character. I agree with you Toy Biz did a lot of signature Spider-Man sculpts based on very renowned artists. I do believe that the J Scott Campbell is his early rendition of Spider-Man and the quote on quote “McFarlane’’ Spider-Man may have a more McFarlane head but is actually a newer rendition of J Scott Campbell. Sculpted by Dave Cortes I think he may have drawn a lot of inspiration from Campbell and then sculpted the head which was Scott Campbell doing an impression of McFarlane. Even Jesse Falcon has stated the McFarlane Spider-Man is actually based on Campbell and not McFarlane. If you do ask both artists though they both are humble and say it looks like the other artists work.
While I appreciate how modern Legends figures all have a similar look - which allows for some great displays - I do really, really love it when the figures are so specific to an artist's style!
Great video! I know I have a couple of the Humberto Ramos figures and the first McFarlane figure. I need to dig through my box and see if I have the others. Oh, I hope I have the Alex Ross figure. He's in my top 5 favorite Spidey artists of all time and I need to have a Ross figure in my collection! You, sir, are the man!
Another great video as always! I don't know if you take requests but I would like to see one on the Fantastic Four. I'm curious if there is any figures based off Jack Kirby's original run.
There was a first appearance Thing, which I think looks more like Art Adams than Kirby, but none that really capture Kirby’s style. I do love the FF - one of my first videos was on John Byrne’s run - check it out if you haven’t seen it!
I'm not sure about the "McFarlane" Spiderman figure... it doesnt have the trademark points on the inside of the eyes, by the nose. I've always kinda thought it looked mord like Mark Bagley's designs. Sik
I have fearsome foes spidey, and with the webbing and the shape of the figure's head, it actually looks like "Bagley" Spidey. If you look at the great Glenn Webb's ultimate spidey figure review, he compares the ultimate spidey figure with a custom fearsome foes spidey. And my god it screams BAGLEY to me. The spiders on his chest and his back is very similar to how bagley drew spidey in 90s. And bagley's spidey had a leaner look, so...(Animated series symbiote spidey intensifies)NOOO!! @@CarbonScoring well I'm excited to see more. And even though it is not really an artist specific figure I would love to see snapshot spidey, it is my favorite spidey figure and it definitely looks like romita sr. spidey.
@@dimitrispolitis2091 exactly, and also the body fits perfectly, it is bulky but not too much it still has a bit of a lankiness, colors are exactly the same, webbing is similar, only differences are spiders on the front and back which is tolerable, they don't look bad. Spidey has been blessed with unique interpretations for sure!
It’s cool how they are able to make amazing spider man toys/figures and comics it’s just so cool
I love it when the art becomes "real"
I think another element in the McFarlane Spidey that sells it as McFarlane is the chin. McFarlane used to draw Spider-Man's chin slightly protruding from under the mask. This was particularly noticeable in McFarlane's artwork when he drew Spidey from the side, and this is particularly noticeable in this figure when you look at it from the side.
