Dude... I've been trying to fix this issue with my Honda CM400 for about two weeks now. I've been using a fuel/air valve knob at the carbs for cold starts. this helps so much. you're the man.
Thanks for this. I just went to my garage and tightened the choke on my 1982 GL500. The dial below the boot was tight, but the nut on the the other side was loose. A quick 1/4 turn on the nut with a spanner did the trick!
Been struggling with this since buying my first bike, a ‘94 sportster. The choke was somewhat tight the first few days/weeks of having the bike and it went entirely loose for months now as I frustratingly sat and held my choke every start up looking like a rook. Good looks on this quick tip man
Oh man thanks for this simple solution to a very annoying problem. Other owners told me to use a clothes peg and when finished clip the peg onto the clutch cable. I can’t wait to show them this adjustment!
this video really helped me, my 1999 suzuki marauder 800 had this problem, fixed it in less then 30 sec. My bike will be way easier to start when it's cold now.
Thank you very much sir. I just cleaned my first carb and had this problem after I was done. After watching this video it took a few seconds to fix. Thanks again.
Ummm this is really annoying that I never knew this. I thought it was basically a double nut but the dial you turned by hand was so you didn't ring it off. Thanks man! I was getting ready to a buy another damn cable thinking something was broken again.
Just a quick comment I don't oil the choke cable or mechanism because it's held by friction and if you spray it it'll never work right again you'll have to replace the whole thing
Holy shit I gotta try this when I get home my bikes got this issue and everything's so clean that I doubt it's bad I'm thinking this will fix it. Thanks man
Mine is adjusted tight but still falls back in. I can turn it by grabbing the rubber boot, but the boot won’t peel back so I can get a better look. - 1996 Honda Shadow VT600
I don't know if you know much about suzukies but here is my problem. I have just read your guide on troubleshooting regrec on your website. I own a honda varadero XL125 and the regulator went on it (its a combined unit but it was overcharging the batter) and the battery boiled over. The only replacement regrec I had to hand was one from a gs500 which is also 3 phase and has the same wires as the varadero (the gs500 is also a 2 cylinder bike). after connecting all the wires by twisting them up i started the bike and the regrec didn't charge the new battery and the 3 yellow wires started to get very hot but after wiggling the wires and starting the bike again the regrec did start charging the bike and the wires stayed cool. I then un-twisted everything and put proper crimped spade connectors on everything and connected it all back together but this time the reg rec still wont charge the bike and the wires still get hot very quickly (within 10 seconds). any ideas?
Dude my vt600 does this same thing I'll def try this out when I get home tonight! It also has to stay on choke for 10 to 15 minutes no matter the temp or it misses bad when you give it throttle, but it cleans itself up after several mins. I need to adress that next.
Hey bud I've recently got a 04 vt1100 and I would like to know it I can do a short choke knob for my carbs and I will use the choke lever as a cruise control 😉 Thanks
Hey cody really enjoying the videos heres a question unrelated to this video but hopefully you can answer on a 1985 honda elite 250 is the charging system capable of charging a agm style battery
Thank you for the video. How about 1100 choke on handlebar? How do you tighten that cable from going back in by itself? It looks like it does not have those nuts like side choke in this video. Let me know please.
Hello dear friend I like your video, and it is really helpful. I have a 2001 Honda shadow vt600cd,and when I use the choke and pull to start it,it starts choking, and turn off.what do think the problem is??
yep my plastic cover was all the way up, i loosened it then tightened it again but no change tomorrow in the light i may try and squeeze the gripping prongs on the rod
Hey man so I have a question I need your help So I was riding home one day and I ran out of gas I turn my Petcock switch to reserve then I went to the gas station I didn’t turn the Petcock switch back to the on position The bike is working fine it’s seem to be at least I get back on the freeway and it works fine but ever since then if I try to hold high speed for long periods of time the fight starts to bog and will eventually cut off If I don’t let off if anyone knows anything please let me know it would be a huge help
Even if you tighten the screw, it will not be fixed. the year of the year Is it because it's old and rusty? It doesn't hold even if you tighten it as much as you can
Hi man, bought the same cable but feels like evennif it is at its tightest, the lever still slowly drops down. I also noticed that the choke cable is a bit too long and i have to roll it up. Would that be the cause why it is too tight and not holding up?
Hey Cody I have a problem with my choke. I saw this video and thought this would fix it. I loosened it all the way and its still stuck and I cant pull it out. Is it time to replace it ?
That looks like such a short pull on the choke... is that normal? I just rejetted my carbs today and the pull was basically the same distance you just showed, but it used to pull a lot farther out before i rejetted it
Ive got same problem on my sons motorcross bike, it use to only start with choke down as didnt work, garage was supposed yo fix it, now after a while its not working again. This time pull it up then falls back down, so i have to awkwardly start the bike with one hand reaching down to pull it up, HOW CAN I FIX THIS PLEASE???
I m no mecanic and noone around to teach me little tricks like this, learning on youtube because of people like you, thanks again mate !

Your welcome man!!

Simple but effective!

If I could give this 50 likes I'd still want to give it more! Such a simple fix, thank you!
I can't believe ive bern struggling with this thing for years thinking i had to replace the whole choke assembly. Thank you kind sir
Thank you Cody! Fixed my VF750C Magna choke plunger doing this, been dealing with it for a whole year!
Hilarious I have the same bike. Replaced this cable same issue. Just now realizing this is all it was. V4 Muscle baby!!
Oh man thanks for this simple solution to a very annoying problem. Other owners told me to use a clothes peg and when finished clip the peg onto the clutch cable. I can’t wait to show them this adjustment!
OMG. Thanks so much. We need people like you. Legend

My 2000 Marauder is doing it now. Is this what you did?
Holy shit man this saved me from buying a new one! I had this stuff on my shadow 750, never knew it was this simple.
Thank you very much sir. I just cleaned my first carb and had this problem after I was done. After watching this video it took a few seconds to fix. Thanks again.
Thanks for the tip!! You’re correct this was frustrating!!
Maaaaaaan...Thank you for that tip. been sittin here hunched sideways in the cold waiting for the bike to warm up every time!
Now I know, my Honda cb250 super dream has had the same problem. Now its sorted, thanks for your help. Mr Maltby. England 😊
Ummm this is really annoying that I never knew this. I thought it was basically a double nut but the dial you turned by hand was so you didn't ring it off. Thanks man! I was getting ready to a buy another damn cable thinking something was broken again.
OMG. This fixed my annoying sliding choke. I didn’t realize there was a locking nut under that rubber cap. That info should be in the owners manual!
thx bro, i was about to buy a new choke
Just a quick comment I don't oil the choke cable or mechanism because it's held by friction and if you spray it it'll never work right again you'll have to replace the whole thing
Amazingly simple, checking this when I get home
This was unbelievably helpful I can’t lie to you I thought my brand new carb was broken lmao
Wow! I think it took me 15 seconds! Thanks so much for posting this video!
Wish i would have found you 5 years ago i am 70 first bike at 66 lol i feel great
I have the same issue on my Yamaha Vstar 650. I’ll check to see if that fixes it, Cody. Thank you!
I hope it’s the fix man!
Had this problem on my VTX for years before a mechanic at the local shop showed me this trick.
THX Cody! - now it works! - Honda 750...
Thanks for the info , Cody. I have this problem with the choke on my Yamaha rhino. I will have to see if that will fix it. Keep the vids coming.
Thanks man! More to come!
Nice video , another thing to add to the carb book. Could you do a video on how to tune race carburetors? Mikuni and keihin mechanical/ FCR carb banks
Holy shit! That was exactly my problem, and the solution. Thanks so much!

Thank you. I have been looking for this… I’ll give it a try.

btw the engine that is in the varadero is the same engine that is in a honda vt125 shadow since i know you have worked on a few 750 shadows.

thank you so much it works in a sec omg i opened the whole thing and i didn't see that gear

Mucho thanks for this my man. 🙏🙏
Thank you, you help a lot in so many ways.
My choke broke apart behind the gear. Do I need to replace the whole choke?
Hello dear friend I like your video, and it is really helpful. I have a 2001 Honda shadow vt600cd,and when I use the choke and pull to start it,it starts choking, and turn off.what do think the problem is??
It may not need choke to get started!

I have a 2006 Suzuki katana 750
Even if you tighten the screw, it will not be fixed. the year of the year
Is it because it's old and rusty?
It doesn't hold even if you tighten it as much as you can
Thanks champ 👍
I am trying to replace the choke cable on my 1995 1100C2 ACE But I haven't been able to find a video on that issue. Please help.
