The hospital side of the golf course used to be stanley park aerodrome from 1929 to the end of the second world war and was visited by both Amy Johnson and Amelia Earhart. Some of the buildings at blackpool zoo like the old elephant house are leftover hangars and art deco clubhouses. During ww2 it was used as a technical training school by the RAF and wellington bombers were assembled there. There's still a few pillboxes dotted around.
I've had many a happy day on that course as a young man. It once was extremely popular indeed. I remember a committee member telling me the budgets for the park, course and zoo were pooled and the golf course basically funded the other two (70's and 80's). Over time there seems to have been a deliberate attempt to run the course into the ground by the Council so they could sell it saying it wasn't tenable - such as increasing the subs to unaffordable levels to dissuade people from using it and cutting back on the maintenance budget making it rather unkempt.
Nice to have a stroll during the day when it's not too cold lovely to have a look at Stanley park and see the bedding plants in for the winter good video can't wait for the next new videos
Hi Stephen thank you for another great video as always love Stanley Park it's amazing love the lake so peaceful sitting and watching the ducks and swans have a great evening xx
Fantastic looking park glad the golf course has been saved,we have a Stanley park in my hometown of Liverpool but not as nice looking as the Blackpool version.

I love Stanley Park 😍 I remember when I was a kid when my mams friend bent down just as I put my brolly up & hit her right in the eye & gave her a black eye 👁 🤣😂 that's where I would love to live on Blackpool it's fab around there ❤️
Wonder if there was a clause that should it cease being a public park the land goes back to the original owner. No quick rich scheme for the council or developers.
hi steve i walk my dog if its windy on front and go to stanley park was there yesterday ..the bowling greens ive never seen used people i see have picnics on them ..lol no one tells them to stay off some young ones play football on them. i think when not in use should put big signs up apart from that its still a fab park...john ..south shore...
Of course the developer will appeal. Who will get the brown envelope to persuade the decision? I do not know ( and ma not) but the UK is more corrupt than politicians would have you believe. Modern life is not nice. I am not a golfer but I respect their courses as being great spaces.
If the golf course is a going profitable business, then it should stay, if it depends on council handouts, then I'm afraid it will eventually have to go.
Can they just leave things alone Steven is the clubhouse used by gofers ? Also don't the public have the right of way to walk in the woodlands is a lovely site
The redevelopment was going to be ok Nimbys will moan and complain So the kids will leave town And these moaners will be alone or vanush like leroy Play golf at lytham

Nooooo!! Leave it alone ..green space is precious !!
Good evening to you Stephen I've played 18 holes on Stanley in the past
I hope the planners don't get their way Stephen, our green spaces need saving and preserving. A good informative video.
Oh that's good to hear. And yesterday you had no tower and here we had no Pendle Hill. Today has been a bit clearer but very damp.
EXCELLENT VIDEO.
Superb news
lovely footage stephen
Cheers pal.
Used to regularly do nine holes back in my younger days as a university student. Good times. Never played golf 😉.
It looks lovely .👍
Hi Stephen

You should have shown Number 37 North Park Drive - I did some work there and it used to belong to Betty Legs Diamond! 💎♦️
I'll make a note John
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool the sunken bath and walk in shower looked like it could accommodate a rugby team of Funny Girls! 😂
@@JohnHughes2002 Two doors from my favourite road in Blackpool, Milton Avenue with it's tree lined, grass verge central reservation.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool yes I've always thought that looked posh, particularly from the Newton Drive end.
@@JohnHughes2002 Saying that, I'm a Marton man. Don't think I'll ever move away from the south shore area unless I come into big money.

Just in Blackers for a couple of days, foggy and Cold but with a Sense of ambience but the Winter Gardens was shut!,is it because it's out of season
Oh wow. I thought it was open all the time. There is a World Cup Fanzone in Olympia.

You v leroy at swingball the crowds were huge
I think leroy was a secret golfer
could be buried under 19th hole ⛳️
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool the plans were decent obv if it was used
What is wrong with these developer's it's nicer to see a lot of greenery that another car park can't people walk or get public transport
That drive is full of Blackpool's elite. What they do for a living is a mystery, with their million quid homes.
Any developer who’s name contains Amusements is not to be trusted.
😀😀😀😀😀🥰🥰🥰🥰
So that’s why they’ve let the Bowling Greens get so awful 🙈😡
Can anyone walk on the golf course, not just golfers?
Not sure about that John, but there should be paths across the course for the public.
Hello u ok
Kanny beat the old blackpool always get good summer quality place way quality people

It's quite complicated the way it all works Kathleen.
Is the lake still closed off due to bird flu?
It is at the moment Sarah.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool ah ok well I hope it's open when I'm in Blackpool in March 👍
