Shortpixel is the go-to image optimizer for myself and many others.
Shortpixel has two different plugins: Shortpixel Image Optimizer and Shortpixel Adaptive Images.
In this video I am going to dis-spell some of the confusion around which plugin to use and when because Shortpixel says you shouldn't use both at the same time on the same website.
So which one do you use?

Great explanation. Would there be any conflicts or delays/redirects if the site is already on Cloudflare CDN?

Good question, I'm not sure. You shouldn't have two CDNs serving your images. The Shortpixel CDN only applies to the images while the Cloudflare CDN serves images, CSS and JS.
I haven't tried running both CDN's together, but my feeling is it could cause an issue. Perhaps Graham has tried it and it worked fine for him.

What's interesting is that I was reading on their site somewhere that you can actually enable both. Just don't enable lazy load in both. Only in one of them.

This is part of the confusion. It's ok to use them together because they don't conflict. I've done it for a while without any problems. But if you read the first point on this Shortpixel documentation page comparing SPIO and SPAI ( shortpixel.helpscoutdocs.com/article/179-shortpixel-adaptive-images-vs-shortpixel-image-optimizer ) it says:
"First of all, you can keep both plugins active as they won't conflict with each other but we'd generally recommend you have just one plugin active."
So Shortpixel says they work together, but at the same time they recommend to only use. Like I said in the video, I'm not sure why they recommend that, but they're the developers so they should know what they're talking about. I haven't read the Lazy Load conflict anywhere, but that makes sense.

@@wplearninglab Maybe they don't work well together when SPIO uses LOSSY compression and then SPAI has to work with those images instead of the originals and that could lead to higher filesize and worse quality (unless SPAI detects it automatically and "asks" for the original images to work with).

1) The editor can also switch between Lossy and Glossy Or can only admin?
2) Can you set different quality images? for example: Thumbnails on Lossy and main pictures on Glossy?

Hi Bjorn, just a couple of questions. I am doing some pro bono work for a homeless charity and they have a fair number of photos in their WP media folder. I'd probably be better to identify and remove those images not used on the site. However, if your traffic is all local then I guess you might as well use the Short Pixel link rather than the Adaptive Images option. Have I understood that correctly? Should different accounts be set up for each client or one account for all clients?

Hi Bjorn! I am using Imagify pro on my websites, but need serve scaled images + cdn 4 better score on gtmettrix, could I install Shortpixel Adaptive Image and not break anything with Imagify? Or I must deactivate Imagify and install Shortpixel AI? I am also using WP Rocket and Wordfence.
Great video! I added ShortPixel AI along with Nitropack. While my desktop page loading speeds are incredibly fast (using the "Strong" setting), the mobile speeds are apparently being affected by Nitropack, because the Next Gen images aren't being converted for mobile. Any suggestions?
Can you please explain differences between monthly plan and one-time payment? How this one-time payment works with Adaptive version?
So do I understand that correctly that SPAI would mess with the URL of my images? And what happens if SP goes under? What happens to my images?

Great tutorial thanks! I just tried using your link and there seems to be no difference in the amount of images. I also tried in an ignition link just so you know. I will still use so you get an affiliate credit but does not seem to be any bonus in credits as listed in the video. Thanks so much!

It's sufficient for everything, right? Now I feel hesitant.
If I choose the AI version, then my optimized pictures will be on the cdn server - but also on my computer or what? Say if I need an image I know I have, where do I fetch it from?
Hi Peter,
The images you upload to your website will exist on your website’s server (in other words, in your hosting account). The ShortPixel AI plugin will then copy those images to the ShortPixel CDN and change your site’s image URLs on the fly to load the optimized version from their CDN.
If you ever deactivate or delete the plugin, your images are still in your hosting account and all the image URLs will be changed to load those original images again.
The images on your hard drive will stay where they are on your hard drive.

@@wplearninglab Im also confused but a main reason could be to just safe credits. Having both means the images are resized on page = 1 Credit each and the n monthly per view...

Hi Chandan,
Without getting into your site and hosting account, there's little I can do for advising you. There are so many different ways hacks can be done. The first thing you have to do is figure out which files have been affected and/or which bad files have been uploaded to your server.
You could install Wordfence and run the site file audit that compares the files on your site with the legitimate WordPress files from the WP Repository to see if the are changes.
You can trying running a site check on Sucuri to see what it comes up with: sitecheck.sucuri.net/
You can check out this video where I show how to clear up a certain type of hack. Yours may not be fixed with this process, but you'll see ways to identify bad files: ua-cam.com/video/ptmkId3_52M/v-deo.html

My problem with ShortPixel is when I order it to optimize pictures, it will freeze every little, and I have to press "PAUSE BULK PROCESSING" and then again to "RESUME BULK PROCESSING" in order to continue with optimizing the pictures. And if I have 1000 pictures, I will have to sit in front of the PC for the whole days, because it will freeze every 5 - 10 pictures....
