Just pick up a 312-8, had to change the mechanical fuel pump and was wonder about this exact mod. Thank you for posting this and being so thorough with your walk through. I'm loving this old machine so far, especially for free.

Valid observation but with soft copper there is plenty flexibility it'll out last the engine life...
