It’s a bit odd two of the three judges that ruled on Mayor Tiffany’s recall.
Joy Cunningham (Democratic Party) is a judge for the 1st District of the Illinois Supreme Court. She assumed office on December 1, 2022. Her current term ends on December 2, 2024.
Cunningham (Democratic Party) is running for re-election for the 1st District judge of the Illinois Supreme Court. She is on the ballot in the Democratic primary on March 19, 2024.
Cunningham first became a member of the court by appointment. Members of the court appointed her in September 2022 to succeed retiring Justice Ann M. Burke.
Cunningham also served as a judge on the Illinois First District Appellate Court from December 4, 2006, to November 30, 2022.
She was appointed (promoted) to the Illinois Supreme Court just one month after submitting the ruling on Mayor Tiffany in November 2022.
@jonesy19691 no he followed the state laws. IL has messed up recall laws. You have to vote to have a recall then the next year have the recall. They did both on the same ballot and that should be fine, it is not how their state works.
If I'm recalling correctly, the judge had no choice due to the way the laws are. Some technicalities about the recall process that leaned her way... unfortunately for taxpayers, all that is sane.

She leased the truck for 5 years. Generally monthly payments on a leased vehicle are substantially lower than financing to own, the exact reason why people lease instead of buy. She managed to overpay 50% plus over the sticker price while not actually purchasing to own it. At the end of the lease she doesn't own the truck and they would probably charge her $40k more to buy out the lease and own the truck on top of the $150k paid on the lease term. Insane.

A brand new 2024 High Country (that's the luxury trim level from Chevy) is $82K. In order to even get to the base price listed in that document, a 2023 model would have had to add virtually every offered Option. I tried to get a 2024 model on the Chevy site up to that price and.....couldn't do it and I even added the Dealer installed rooftop tent and the $2000 electric "luxury" cooler.

Illinois has notoriously poor legislative mechanism for recalling in the case of corruption. Their only fallback is calling in the FBI, but federal investigations are anything but speedy.
