    According to this video I'm doing everything wrong. I have a $6 dollar Amazon mouse, no mousepad at all, highest sensitivity setting, and mouse acceleration on. No wonder I can't aim.

    This might help some people
    Something that I found out recently is that when I click, I move my entire mouse a teeny bit. This means that if I am using a pistol or tap shooting with an assault rifle that makes it very difficult to stay on the head of the target and hit head shots.
    So what I did was started keeping my hand on the mouse in such a way that when I click it doesn't move my mouse, and I also try to not put as much pressure down on my mouse.
    idk maybe some other people might have this problem and not realize it like I did.

      So true! I used to play at 800 dpi with a sensitivity of 4.3, and I was stuck on sliver 4 for a month. Bought a bigger mouse pad, lowered my sensitivity, and almost instant nova (which was a pretty big deal for me at the time).

    • @ssud11
      @ssud11 8 років тому +1

      +Brandon Slay I think generally claw grip requires a bit more sens than palm grips. Because in this position u have to move your wrist, not the arm. I am still experimenting though, I played a couple of matches with this setting today and my aim was not satisfactory. I will probably lower it more.

    • @altrock17
      @altrock17 8 років тому +6

      Jamie McDonald each type of mouse has native dpi. 800 is not necessarily the best for every mouse. alot of mice are meant to be at 400 dpi. it's the in-game sensitivity that's meant to be played around with, not the dpi

    • @Frosty_Saiyajin
      @Frosty_Saiyajin 8 років тому +3

      Jamie McDonald Can you or someone else here find something out for me? I play with 2000 DPI, with .75 in game sens, if I were to turn it down to 800 DPI, what would my sensitivity be? I found my perfect sensitivity, it's just with my mouse, I can't put the polling rate on 1000Hz when I'm running something other than one of the default DPI presets in my mouse driver.

    • @jamiemcdonald1154
      @jamiemcdonald1154 8 років тому +2

      Adam Hatcher I think you would need 1.875 sens ingame for 800 dpi. I used this website to work it out
      www.mouse-sensitivity.com/
      You just select CSGO as the game both times. Its a really useful site.

  • @TailTL
    @TailTL 9 років тому +86

    To whoever says Mouse acceleration is bad, here's a quote:
    "In theory; if you master playing with acceleration it is superior to non acceleration. You're able to turn faster when you need it and aim more precise when you need that.
    That said, it's A LOT harder to be perfect. Because you need to master both non-linear distance as well as speed when moving the mouse in contrast to simply learning to move the mouse linearly in distance.
    That's why most say it's bad. It's because it's so much harder, that unless you can handle it perfectly, you will play worse."

    • @Yom_Bristol
      @Yom_Bristol 9 років тому +51

      I move my arm if I want to turn faster and my wrist if I want to aim precisely. I don't need no machines doing it for me.

    • @RikkiTikkiTavi290
      @RikkiTikkiTavi290 9 років тому +11

      So basically you're saying that mouse acceleration is bad because we as imperfect beings cannot perform such an operation perfectly all the time.

    • @JJMza
      @JJMza 9 років тому

      06theespada we just need a video of those who use mouse acc and those who don't. We all look up to the pros....trust me.

    • @Viddumake
      @Viddumake 9 років тому

      ***** During ASUS Rog Winter my friend asked Maikelele that when he uses mouse acceleration he'll never be better than KennyS. He went ahead and won the final against titan. So I wouldn't go ahead and make the assumption that just becouse less pros use it it's worse.

    • @JJMza
      @JJMza 9 років тому +1

      Markus Nikkanen Oh yeah without a doubt. In fact I use mouseacc for the very reason of control without "too" much effort in hand motion.
      What I was suggesting is a "Pro" video demonstrating those that do use it and those that don't so it can be put up as a referential guide to end the madness of this pointless question to determine what "a person should use.
      I'm doing a behavioral study on the CS community and find that a lot of people take other people's words.
      e.g. try joining a server and asking what people use as their mouse config most of them will either start a riot or simply state it as how it was asked. Those that want the attention seem to be the ill minded.

    THIS is the kind of tutorial I've been looking for. One that shows the player moving the mouse so that I can have a better idea of how pros play. I used to use a very high sensitivity because I always thought that i should be able to turn 360 easily and also thought that lifting my mouse was a disadvantage. Lower sensitivities always felt so weird to me and I wondered how pros play with that.
    Now I use 1.95 in game and 1000 dpi. I'll need a bigger mouse pad before I lower it any further. My mouse is too heavy too.

    • @putnik1995
      @putnik1995 9 років тому

      Why would you turn 360 ? :D

    • @ghoste000
      @ghoste000 9 років тому

      Milos Putnik 180 to kill(or at least try) people shooting from behind. For me its always easier to move my mouse to the right so to turn back to where I was looking at, I would turn 180 to the right.
      Not only that, I used to constantly turn around to see if there was someone behind me.
      I played with in game sensitivity 7 and I didnt even know the mouse dpi. All I knew was that I was able to turn 360 just by moving my mouse 7-10cm.

    I have a 1920 x 1080 monitor and I play 1280 x 720. But I like to use 1600 DPI and 4.65 in game sensitivity. Although I believe my aim is on point I recently decided to try using a lower in game sensitivity to see if I could become more accurate over time. HOWEVER I HAVE A BIG PROBLEM. I have never had to move my hand side to side like how you can see in this video. I always just have to rotate my wrist to do a full turn. I find it physicaly retarded to hold my arm up as I aim. This may sound stupid, but how do you people manage to be able to constantly move your whole arm when you play? Also I would like to know how WarOwl got the formula for DPI - Resolution you are playing. Why would it be optimal for you to be using 800 DPI in a resolution lower then your monitor?

      Surprisingly it worked pretty well and I was able to use low sensitivities. So uh...try that

    • @SergeiTheAnarch
      @SergeiTheAnarch 9 років тому +1

      I play at 1080p with 2.75 ingame sens with 800dpi (2200 raw sens). I make large movements with my arm and my actual aim is still done with my wrist (for instance flicking to watch cat from car on dust 2 would be using your arm while actually tracking and shooting the enemy would be a wrist movement). Sitting in a chair with arms helps with this style of aiming. IMO your sens is way too high; the highest pro sens I can think of is f0rest, Hiko, or GeT_RiGhT with 400 dpi with 4 ingame sens (1600 raw sens). My sens is pretty much lowered as far as I can get it without buying a "gaming" mousepad.

    • @dpear3
      @dpear3 9 років тому +1

      stick to the sensitivity you are most comfortable with. Just because most people are palm grip and aim with their arm and need a low sensitivity to do that doesn't mean everyone has to. If you are a high sensitivity wrist player then do that. if your aim is good then it is fine, just watch recordings of yourself in slow mo and watch and see if you under shoot or over shoot and adjust accordingly.

    what different between ( high sensitivity and low DPI ) and ( LOW sensitivity and high DPI )

    • @Lenfal
      @Lenfal 9 років тому +1

      It depends on your mouse. You want to use the native DPI of your mouse for maximum precision. Most mice have a native DPI of 400 or 800 DPI, so either of these numbers is ideal. Then you want to adjust your sensitivity in consequence. The vast majority of CS:GO professional players use a DPI of 400 and a sensitivity between 1 and 3. As you can see, you can't really use a super high DPI (like 1600+) because you would have to put your sensitivity way too low and it would be imprecise.

    • @wanted1729
      @wanted1729 9 років тому +2

      WaNTeD Try going to the driver. There you can set and adjust each level of sensitivity. If you still find problems with that , try looking on google for your mouses stock dpi levels.

    • @Frewps
      @Frewps 9 років тому

      Lenfal You are 100% correct about native DPI and using higher DPI and lower sens. But I would recommend 1.5 to 4 sens at 400 dpi instead of 1-3. Because: 1 sens is wayyy to slow, and requires turn binds like Roca (0.97 sens) who uses caps lock and F keys to flick/turn around/etc. The most common sens is like 1.8-2.5ish but there's a ton of players who use the range 2.9-4 sens like: f0rest, ex6tenz, hiko, jdm64, get_right, schnedier, xizt, happy, s1mple, nbk, shox, edward, etc. :) it just depends on wrist or arm movement when it comes to sensitivity! :D Also: playstyle, if you love entry fragging and it's basically all you do, high sensitivity is the way to go because high sensitivity DOMINATES up close and can flick angles much quicker, it is a life saver for entry fragging. Low sensitivity is great for awpers and support players. But then again it's all preference, if low sensitivity is the "god tier" sensitivity for awping, why is s1mple one of the best awpers with 4.8 sens at 400 dpi? It all comes down to preference :D

      Based on what statistics are you basing this off of? Valve haven't released any statistics of how many players are in each skill group. All they have said is that 50% of people are below GN3/GN4, so it's reasonable to assume the average is somewhere around there.

    • @abcdefzhij
      @abcdefzhij 9 років тому +1

      There are a lot more silver ranks (6) than of any other specific skill group. And above that threshold there are novas, mgs, legendary eagle ranks, and first clas/global elite skill groups, while below that there is just silver and nova. And also, something that is true of any sport or anything that takes skill is that most people are at the lower skill level and as you go up the skill ladder there are less and less people.

    The lower the DPI you set your mouse to the further you have to move your mouse which makes it easier to make small precise movements. This can be good for sniping stationary targets but it also makes it so you have to move your mouse further which could make it take longer. The best thing to do is experiment around and find what feels most comfortable to you. If you feel like you don't have enough precision lower your DPI and if you don't feel like you have enough speed increase it.

    Hey Warowl, I see pro players like JW, shroud, and Stewie hitting nasty bhop kills sometimes. I remember Stewie and Shroud said that they play with 400 dpi and 1.85 sens from their streams. Personally, I play with 400 dpi and 2 sens and all other settings matched to your video. Im a total noob when it comes to bhopping. I am getting better but I have to increase my sens even higher to get a smooth bhop going. Am I probably just taking too wide of bhop strafes or is my technique just wrong? I do play on 128 ticks with a 144 Hz monitor if that matters as well.

    The ideal config would be going from the left to the right of your mouse pad doing a 360º or 180º spin with your character in game.
    This is the easiest way to get consistency and transfer it from a game to another.
    Other important thing is, don't go from a hardware accelerated mouse with 1600dpi to 400dpi from one day to another, decrease it slowly, a bit peer gaming session until you find a comfortable and good setting.

    If you have a mouse where you can change DPI with a button, set the first one to which you're comfortable in Windows.

    In-game play with the sensitivity so that you feel comfortable.
    This will make precise movements not skip anything, even if a thing you're shooting is smaller than a pixel.

    I normally rest my wrist on the mouse pad as well as my elbow on my armrest and use a higher sensitivity since my wrist mostly stays in place and I'm guessing this is bad. should I pick my wrist and elbow up or just my wrist or is that actually fine?

    “If you have to keep picking up your hand your sens is probably too low”
    Proceeds to pick up hand like a mad man

      +Deyvid Flores "you NEED a giant mousepad" kinda killed my dreams. I don't have one. Don't have room for one on my desk, either, so if I really wanted to I'd need a new desk. rip.

    If you want to play with higher dpi but with same sensitivity you have to multiply your sensitivity and dpi and divide by your new dpi like this. Ex: SENS-1.28 x 400 dpi divide by 800. Your answer is your new sensitivity.

    The Rule of thumb about dpi for low res vs native res is awesome. I'm usually 2 x 400dpi on csgo but everything else is 800dpi with 35cm/360
