I made this apron this morning . It was so easy and so cute! The only change I made was to add light interfacing to one of the pocket pieces, and I rounded the corners at the bottom. Thank you for sharing!
You are a genius! In all my years of sewing I have never seen that neat "envelope" trick for the ends of the ties. Makes perfect sense now that you have shown us. Thank you
I'm just learning to sew (at 65!!!) I found this tutorial so good, explanation detail fantastic, I completed my finished apron in just under 3 hours (with a slight variation, to make a deeper apron for harvesting produce from the garden)...I won't be using the same fabric again, as it kept fraying dreadfully, can't wait to make a few more! Thank you so much Christine 🙂
What a useful item! I made this out of left over curtain fabric and blackout lining , on a dreary wet Sunday afternoon and I’m so pleased with the way it has turned out. Thank you very much for your excellent tutorial.
Another really practical sewing project :-) Thank you, Christine! I think one big pocket is the best idea but if you have different kinds of pegs, two pockets could be handy. I have plastic and stainless steel pegs so I could separate them if I wish.
Wow, I just found you while searching for beginner tutorials on Google. You are such a great teacher. Very calming. I just watched this all the way through and was so relaxed when it was finished. I now think that I might be able to do it. Im 57 years old and the one thing i wished I'd learned during my life was sewing, so Ive bought a machine and didn't know where to start. I had to use you tube to learn how to thread it. Im so so happy I found you. This is so useful and I think a great beginner project. Thanks so much for sharing this. I'm off to have a look at the rest of your channel. New subscriber here x
Thank you so much Lorraine. I'm also 57 (at least for the next few weeks) and even though I've been sewing most of my life, I am still learning something new every day. Enjoy the journey 😊
somehow i missed this before... nice apron! the addition of a ruffle , by the way, can be added easily with a sewn ribbon trim (I use grosgrain) to cover the attachment.
I just love your channel. You explain things so well. I was wondering if you could demonstrate how to replace a front pocket on a pair of jeans? I am an experienced sewer but I just can’t seam to figure it out. I would greatly appreciate it. I’m sure you have other viewers with the same question. Thank you in advance and God bless you and your family.
Hi Christine, thank you so much for your video. I am new to sewing and need a lot of practice. Mission accepted ! Can you please suggest what kind of fabric to use, or how to go about it if you have a fairly thin cotton (I think) fabric that I worry won't be strong enough for regular use. I find that the fabrics with the patterns I enjoy, are often on thinner fabrics, but I would really like to use them still. Would really appreciate your suggestions ! Thanks again for helping people like myself to find enjoyment in this lovely hobby! oh and one more thing, what thread do you use for most of your sewing? Here in NZ they say Gütermann is the best, but it is also quite expensive. Are there other brands that you find are just as good, but more affordable? Many thanks
Thanks Juanita. I prefer guterman thread. In the long run, the extra cost will save you a lot more time, and is better for your machine. As far as fabric goes, you can really use any non stretch fabric. Quilting cotton has a great range of prints, but is pricey. To practice and improve your skill, purchase cheap fabric from op shops or thrift stores and try sheets, doona covers pillow slips etc. Some poplins will work too 😀
do forgive me (im on migraine meds so i hope this is clear) 1. instead of plain top stitching of the pockets, you could stitch on some rick rack, or bias binding (i know you suggested bias binding for canvas) rick rack, braid, lace, or binding all change the "style" of the apron. 2. if you are doing a plain top stitch , and you would be doing "back ground color" around the edge of your apron? you may want to use that same color to top stitch the pockets- save time too. 3. BEFORE attaching the pocket part to the apron is when you want to add a patch pocket, or applique heart, or etc (how many times did i look over and realize i didnt add something?) i finally put a post it note on my sewing machine if i took a break, because otherwise i skipped that step...

I agree the envelope trick is perfect! I love this tutorial ❤ it is quick and useful. I will actually make this. I think I might double side this

I added a little mobile phone pocket at the top. Great video, thanks.

I'm gonna make one to use when I take my grandkids to the playground in the summer. I can fill it with snacks and I won't have to carry them.
That's an awesome idea 😍
Lovely
Thanks Rosana 😄

Thanks for the great tips. Ric rac or braid is always a great addition 😀
Love it !
Thanks Sue
Thank you so much.
You're welcome Debbie 😊
Great video. I am a beginner and daughter a waitress. Just one question, how long are the straps please?
Thanks Gigi. I joined two lengths to make one long strap that can come around to the front, or tie a big bow in back. Totalled about 80inches.
How long are the straps?
Deborah, I used two pieces of fabric from the full width of fabric which is about 44" each 😀
How long are the strips?
I used two strips about 42" long Faye 😀
Hey Christine, can I ask where you get your labels made please ?
Lesley, I get the labels from www.wunderlabel.com.au 😄
hi how long is each strip please sonnie
Sonia, if using quilting cotton, just cut two strips from the wedth of your fabric. Otherwise, a 2 yard length in total will be more than enough😃
Hi Christine, what are your thoughts on using an sf101 fusible interfacing in the ties?
Linda, if you'd like your waist band and ties nice and crisp, I'd certainly give it a go. 😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs thanks I think I’ll give it a go
nice
Thank you 😀
Would make an egg apron too.
It just so happens that I did an egg apron video a few days ago Sky. here's the video 😀 ua-cam.com/video/RsxqYXLR-2A/v-deo.html
Is there a printable pattern of instructions?
No, just the video 🙂
❤❤
Thanks RR😀
I added a little mobile phone pocket at the top. Great video, thanks.
That's a great idea Anne 😀
