- The Emperor and Empress of Japan receive a ceremonial welcome as their state visit begins. The King and Queen greet their guests on Horse Guards Parade where some of the nation's most prestigious regiments are displayed.

I personally love Japan and Japanese people as a Brit, I do think we have a lot in common as nations, but also differences of course. It's a shame that the Japanese Emperor never gets a chance for the 'Pomp and ceremony' that they get in the UK. I suppose for four main reasons. Tokyo doesn't have the space to do it. The Japanese royals have always been hidden historically compared to the British royals. Japanese people value modesty in their culture to never show of and lastly the Japanese military is kind of stifled since world war two which is a shame. I personally would like to see a strong Japan militarily again and I would like to see the Japanese Royals be more public, but what do I know?

Japanese people are so humble and polite. When I went to Japan a few months ago, everything you purchase from somthing as little as a sweet for about a dollar, to a designer dress high end, everything beautifully packaged and even bowed to thanking you for your custom - just overwhelming. During WWII, the British and the Japanese were sworn enemies. Their relationship improved after the war to the extenct that then crown Akihito represented his father at the coronation of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
In 1971 Her majesty Queen Elizabeth II invited Emperor Hirohito to Britain on a state visit and in 1975 Hirohito invited HM QE2 to Japan on a state visit.
In 1998, HM QE2 invited Emperor Akihito to Britain on a state visit.
In 2012, Akihito was among the world monarchs who had lunch at Windsor castle to honour the diamond jubilee of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
In 2019, then Prince Charles was among the world royals who attended the coronation of Emperor Naruhito in Tokyo.
Today the 25th of June 2024, that British and Japanese friendship is being celebrated at the highest level.
As a foreigner, i truly admire the British - Japanese relationship and this goes to show there is no permanent foe in life. 🇬🇧🇯🇵🇬🇧🇯🇵🇬🇧🇯🇵.

When the emperor was a young man at Oxford he stayed with the royal family in the holidays. Apparently Charles taught him how to fly fish.
Forget WW2 though, prior to WW2 it was a Scottish Brit who modernised Japan in the late 1800's. Thomas Blake Glover. Japanese curry isn't from Japan either. Japanese curry comes from Britain. The UK was training Japanese Navy at the end of the 1800's and once per week the Brits ate curry on Navy ships. The Japanese grew to love it and it spread across Japan afterwards. Not many people know this

Yes, in their younger days we hear they once went fishing together on a holiday. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip invited then prince Naruhito to Balmoral Castle in Scotland for holidays. Naruhito wrote a book about great memories when he studied in Oxford as a grad student.

How nice to see Their Majesties together and the State Landau used as well. I’ve always been impressed with the quiet dignity of Het Majesty The Empress Masako, despite her health and such over the years. A beautiful lady indeed.

The first one of these ceremonial welcomes I ever watched was the welcoming of my own State President, President Ramaphosa of South Africa. It is lovely to watch the welcoming of the Japanese Imperial couple. They both look very kind and gracious. Long live the Imperial Couple and their Majesties King Charles and Queen Camilla.

A number of British people may have wondered why Empress Masako put a mask on, but among interested Japanese people there is one theory in relation to Emeritus Empress Michiko. Note that Their Imperial Majesties Naruhito and Masako are now held in very high respect in Japan. Empress Masako is beautiful and much cleverer than Emeritus Empress Michiko (previously Masako had been an excellent diplomat of the Japanese government). Emeritus Empress Michiko has not been being very happy to welcome Empress Masako to the Imperial Family. For the imperial bridal of TIM Masako and Naruhito in 1993, Michiko did not want Masako to take a coach, and therefore, Masako had a ride on an automobile at their bridal parade: at that time the Imperial Household Agency said that Empress Masako had serious horse allergy, but with a lot of solid evidence, many interested Japanese think that this story of her allergy is untrue. It is thought that Emeritus Empress Michiko valued her memory of riding a coach in her bridal parade in 1959, she did not want this memory to get overwritten by Empress Masako, the very beautiful clever wife of her son, and Michiko forced IHA to release that untrue story. At present, Emeritus Empress Michiko is still being involved in IHA matters, and IHA still cannot correct the untrue story. Accordingly, Empress Masako put a mask on. Mr. Nishimura, the director general of IHA, may have asked Her Imperial Majesty to do so. Probably, The British Royal Family know this.

Japan and the UK have been good acquaintances for a long time.
In the West, called "Asian" acquaintances.
Although our interactions are limited due to distance, we do exchange information on areas of interest. Considering the barrier between the West and Asia, I think
it can be said that we are a little bit closer.
It's not so far these days. There are direct flights between Heathrow and Narita now. You can be there and back again even over a long weekend 😊 The flight is only 3 films, 2 meals and a sleep long 😊 It's my recommendation to not sleep the night before the flight and take a sleeping tablet after take off. Oh and maybe bring some over ear headphones with you also.
