Leo, Heather, and Danny, the family can’t thank you enough for all the work you have done on our behalf to find family relics and exposure for the Hatfield Homeplace Museum.
Jack, I love hearing your passion and love for your family's history, and your comments about the pig were hysterical! While my interest in history is more Old West post Civil War, I definitely know about the Hatfields and Mccoys. I hope to get your way someday to see your museum. Devil Anse would be so proud of you!
Hi Jack..on the finds, was thinking and I'll run this pass you,me..on things I find while out metal detecting I went to Walmart and bought a vibrating foot bath..I put in distilled water and place things in it and let it run for a few hours to remove dirt..works good. Just a suggestion to help.
I love the excitement from everyone!! Jack is the best kind of person you would want as a descendant. He lives to preserve his ( and hundreds of others) family treasures!! Keep digging Jack and Hillbilly Files!!!
The jar of coins is likely a "kiddie cache". Years ago, burying a small container with a couple bucks in change in it was popular among kids, boys in particular. Sometimes they would draw treasure maps so they could find it again and they weren't always successful. Kids did this for generations, though it seemed to be at its peak in popularity during the 1920s. If I had to guess, I'd say that's probably around the time this one was buried. I found one in Chattaroy many years ago that contained $1.60 face value in silver dimes. They were in the remains of an old sock buried in the ground. Also, check the Bowie knife for a maker's mark as you clean it up. That will help put a definite date on it. It looks like it might be late 1800s, but markings would tell for sure. Very nice finds!
Mountain/Country people didn’t trust banks back then and a lot of country people still don’t, and with good reason. Banks have proven themselves to be untrustworthy. They’re keeping it quiet, but there have been several banks that have gone under in recent months. Most of us have no choice in our paychecks being direct deposited but that doesn’t mean it has to stay there. Keep just enough money in the bank to keep your account open but if you’re smart, the rest will be somewhere in a safe on your property.
Hey Leo this is Terry I'm 74 I live in Wichita I just want you guys to know how much I enjoy you Leo Heather and Danny you guys do a lot of work for these videos and I hope you're getting reimbursed for it because I love to watch you videos dude my daddy was a hillbilly from Arkansas a very bright and intelligent man bye for now
My Lord boys I've just went through 161 years of my grandfather being killed in the uprising in Minnesota and then I watched your video and I sobbed this was one of the greatest videos I've seen in a long time and me as being a fellow metal detectorist our dreams is to find a cache and my Lord that Bowie knife damn I guarantee you that stuff up there was stashed for a reason on my way with my metal detector
That One dollar silver coin is called a Morgan. The Dime is called a Liberty Head dime. I did not see that much of the quarters, but they might be Draped Bust quarters. And of course the nice Walking Liberty .50 cent coin. How exciting!
That’s the thumper or doubler… It’s got a long pipe going down to the bottom and then a shorter pipe going over into the worm… It kinda double distills the alcohol and catches anything that might puke over into the worm… Some people call it a puke box too…😂
Wow,I'd be so into hearing history.I'd help metal detecting too to help out for the museum. If those finds could talk..I'd be deep into it.Thank you for sharing this video. This is better than sitting in a class and not hearing real history not made up.Thank you again.
My grandmother America Overbey and John Overbey lived on Daniel Boone Trail, had a house and a STORE right next to the house with the green dyno gas fuel. My Grandmother had a pan shot out of her hand by one of the Hatfield or McCoy's feud. She as not hurt. but scared her.
HELLO from Ohio I seen that you have a one dollar peace from 1879 from the jar well I have have one that dates back to 1892 the same one just a little bit newer date than the one that you have
Great times were had by all. That finding that Bowie knife was jaw-drop moment but that jar of coins!! Jack coming out and saying " good Lord they've done multiplied into three and one's already died" That was hysterical! 😂 Can't wait for the next adventure to the cemetery.
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing! I was wondering if the old knife had a hallmark on the blade? There is a very rare Barber dime that had only 10 made and to date I believe there is still only 1 unaccounted for. Not sure but I bet you can find the info by looking up rare barber dime. I think one sold at an auction for almost $2M in the early 2000’s. My mother told me years ago that her family was related to Devil Anse Hattfield and I have found old photos of him and his family in my mom’s old photos but I dont know how her family was related or if they were actually related. I know she was related to Lorenzo Dow Chambers, Samuel Auxier, Alonzo Cartwright, and Cole and Jeffrey families in WVa. Oh I almost forgot… not gensing but truffles lol Enjoyed the video!
I hope some day i can meet you Leo. Ive been tracing my roots and have known for several years now that i am a descendant of the Hatfields. We are cousins. I visited a cemetary in Shenandoah recently.and found some early Hatfield relatives (and mine) this stuff is so awesome to watch.... Someday i hope to get to laugh with you cousin!!! Keep up the work man!!!
Wish ii was there detecting, i had a whites xlt detector with the bullseye coil loved it. Love to find pieces of historyike that! Love the hillbilly files!!
Ya'll need to get Mr. Boney a cheeseburger. Lol. Great video. I love how it just feels like we're coming along with you. Nothing ever seems staged or anything. I love it. Great finds! I am a Charleston girl but we live out on the edge of Kanawha state forest. We have found some neat stuff metal detecting in the woods behind our house. West Virginia is the best. Take your pills!! 😆Thanks again for this great video!
If you knew a anyone with psychometry abilities , that would be a bonus , if there is a local wise woman or a man near you , they would be able to tell you with just by touching it . Highly fascinating finds you have so far , much love from Northern Alberta Canada
This was priceless to see the joy on the great great Grandson's face when you two gave him that jar. This is my all time favorite metal detecting video. I have to ask a question, with all the History that has happened there , have any family members ever experienced any paranormal activity ? I am a believer as I have seen a full body apparition and I was born in Logan County WVA.
This was like watching the beginnings of another mountain folktale. I'm never quite sure how much I should believe, but this week I just confirmed the truth in one my grandfather told me 50 years ago!
That was cool to find the jar with coins in it. I have been told where 2 caches were buried. One near an old mobile home, and the other was buried under an old house that now is dangerous to hunt at because it is in a bad drug needle-covered area where druggies have been handing out.
I Like Danny's old school metal detector,s they are much better than any of the brand new up-to-date ones you can buy anywhere, it's a shame that White's metal detector went out of business that's why when I can find a 5900 or 6,000 or a White's metal detector Blue and Gray. I will buy it on the spot if it's working will even buy one for parts if it's not very hard to find them in good condition any more, good luck. I think it Bowie knife is something more modern if you look at the pictures of cap it seems like it's about a 4-inch blade he has without an elaborate guard,
The small Keg between the Still and the Cooling barrel is a Thump Keg. It gets its name from the sound it makes when in operation. Most of the time it will be charged with Bsckins or tails from a previous run to boost the alcohol content of the end product. You guys sure made some awesome finds in that round of mrtel detecting. Does Danny have a UA-cam channel? Love your channel! Thanks!
Lol my late Vietnam vet made moonshine up in PA and we had a wild bear we named "Homie" and he loved the mash when it was skimmed off....I wonder if he went thru "DTs" when the Vet died ???(
I’ve found Single trees in the mountains digging Seng, that were probably from the early 1900’s, the wood was still intact, it’s hard to say what kind of wood it was on that handle. Maybe they find something on the knife when it’s cleaned up.
You mentioned "shining up the coins". Just some advice, you destroy the value of the coins if you polish them. Love going places like that, so relaxing. Thanks for the video!
Let’s go, let’s go treasure and adventure💕🌺👵✌️
Leo, Heather, and Danny, the family can’t thank you enough for all the work you have done on our behalf to find family relics and exposure for the Hatfield Homeplace Museum.
Have only seen you museum on video but you seem like such a nice person. We hope to meet Leo, Heather and you one day. God bless
Thanks so much! we love being able to be involved, we appreciate it!
Bet who buried the money forgot about it
Jack, I love hearing your passion and love for your family's history, and your comments about the pig were hysterical! I have found gold jewelry and lots of coins but dayum never a jar of old coins. NICE! And the historical possibilities...wow
I love the excitement from everyone!! Jack is the best kind of person you would want as a descendant. He lives to preserve his ( and hundreds of others) family treasures!! Keep digging Jack and Hillbilly
Files!!!
He seems a good person..hopes his hand healed.

That was no kiddie cache my man. That was a lot of money in Appalachia in those days.
@@Davidrcobbit surely was! Devil Anse was supposedly very well off, so it’s possible one of his family buried it.

That rimfire case looks like a Spencer 56-56 case. The 3 ringer is from a muzzle loader. Good finds guys!
That’s the thumper or doubler… It’s got a long pipe going down to the bottom and then a shorter pipe going over into the worm… It kinda double distills the alcohol and catches anything that might puke over into the worm… Some people call it a puke box too…😂

That 3 ringer is actually a projectile with 3 grooves in it...most commonly called a Minie Ball. I've found them over the years.
I’m lost for words!!!!!
Love this.

There is definitely a presence here on the property protecting me and the work we are doing.
Dang, this is better than Oak Island! WOW! What finds.
You guys are a hoot. I'm always laughing at the two of you
The Hillbilly files, I believe the big Bowie knife you found was probably used to dig the holes to bury jar's like that one with old silver coins?
This was like watching the beginnings of another mountain folktale. I'm never quite sure how much I should believe, but this week I just confirmed the truth in one my grandfather told me 50 years ago!
Man I would love to come up there and do that!!!
Insane!

That constant Humm on that machine would drive me nuts I only run that when digging relics that are deep, on the equinox 800.
I understand
Awesome video 🤘
Feller those finds were cooler -n- dang it. I think that Bowie is an old one. Sure wish y’all would let me know if it was.
It turned out to be from the 70's. No idea how it got there though.
