  • A story of how a 19 year old kid found and bought his first Porsche, not knowing its true value. Keith Martin, owner of Martin's German Service in Roanoke, Virginia, saw this Porsche in a yard full of weeds, and jumped on the opportunity to purchase it and drive it home. His intention was to make it into a race car, but thankfully realized how special this car truly was before that happened. Many years later he began and completed a proper restoration to bring it back to its glory. This 1964 Porsche is number 300182 out of only 232, with less than 70 left in the world.

Love it. Made in Porsche Factory too. Irish Green is cool. Looks exactly like my 66.

I lived in Germany for 3 years in the early 70s, I did not know what a 911 was but just a day after getting there I fell in love. Everyday I would see 911's buzzing past me in the fast lane on the autobahn. My actual first siting was a bright flash in my rear view mirror. Apparently Porsche had it in mind to have the bright headlight flash installed by simply pulling back on the turn signal lever. It was definitely put to good use and a lot, so I got one of my own, a 1971 911s Targa, which had been customized by Rein Buchman of BB styling in Frankfort. I drove it in Germany for 2 years and never saw the headlight flash in my rear view mirror again. I made more friends than I ever had, or since, people all wanted to know. Soon many of the officers were buying Porsches, I lived on Fliegerhorst Kaserne just outside Hanau. My commanding officer wanted one as well, and we found him an Orange one. everyone wanted to buy mine, but I put it on the boat to New Jersey, and drove it all the way to the west coast, here in Eugene Oregon. Of all the cars I have ever owned, the 911 is by far the ultimate in everyday driving and most precision auto I ever experienced. I knew then this car would be around a long time.

Great story, thanks for sharing. I’ve loved 911’s ever since one of our neighbors had a beautiful guards red G body in the early 80’s. I never got to drive it but I sat in it a lot & then went home & dreamt about it. I’m 51 now & still don’t have a P car but I’ve made it my ultimate life mission to own one after the kids leave the nest.

Each detail is performed absolutely perfect. No other car could ever beat the beauty of a late 356 or an early 911.Last year
I could fulfill the dream since my childhood:A 30 years old 911 targa and I'm totally happy with it!

Amasing and superb car and beautiful narration. I´ve a dark grey 1991 Carrera 4/ 964 bought in 2001 with 131 000Kms on the clock and goes as good as new, driving it daily use,of course with full service every year, with the same reliabilty, solidity as new, ( I knew the first owner) I´m 69 years old and this car, is the love of my life, I love Porshes since I was a kid with 5 or 6 with the 356 cars, until today. Porsche´s love is like that, is forever!

priceless!!! the car looks amazing and is for most of us unaffordable. Yes the owner deserves this car and is the best steward this 901 can have. He found a treasure, when every one was underestimating pieces like this! Thats what i call a vision. Great story

What a lovely, humble man. A super car & His-story!
Ps: I’ve owned my own Suzuki GT380B since 1978 when, as a teenager I took my first bank loan. I rode it daily, crashed but, left it out in all weathers until the mid-80s, then it was forgotten in a garage under a blanket. I restored it in 2007 and it’s still like new. I’m 59 and like the 911 owner, I feel magic when I ride my ‘380 Triple!
Sorry to hog the thread - just to say I have a kinship feeling of a kind. I like to fix stuff, too.

Irish green. In 2015 I had it at the Porsche Parade in French Lick. Dr Wolfgang Porsche walked by and wanted to sit in it. He stroked the top of the dash and said “Just like Mother’s car”.

An original 1964 would never have had all color matching vinyl dash - and the door handles would have been black, lower dash, black, upper dash, black. What concerns me is that you are claiming to be a great steward and I do appreciate your expertise - I'm sure surpassing mine in many ways, but please, when it comes to authenticity of the early cars there is very little creativity in how the interiors where built at the factory. They all were made like the brochures and black was the main color. The dash was black - and much less padded than your car. The carpets were usually black, or dark grey. Only in the 1970's did the cars begin to take on the look of your 1964 car. Great car. Great video. But, please represent history correctly or we risk losing the real history.

thats what the best restorations are, you cant restore things that are broken without compromising the originality if that makes sense.

Keith, mine is 7 numbers after yours. Similar story, I acquired it in 1977 when I was 23, but I drove it home and drove it for a couple years before a shifting fork broke. You mentioned California ... curious if Henk Baars restored your car?

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel
pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in
the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems,
turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and
New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be
done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of
    crime here, called "Abgasbespaßung".....
