  • Greetings, Vault Hunters! Today we’re talking about the sequel that isn’t; the prequel that mustn’t… but does anyway? It’s Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! Host Joel Watson is joined by Project Producer James Lopez, Mission Designer Matt Higgins, and Boss Designer Josh Jeffcoat to relive the thrills and chills of co-developing a Borderlands game with an Australian studio. If you think there isn’t a story about a pack of wild kangaroos, you’d be WRONG!

Disappointing that they didn't get anyone who wrote TPS on this cast. I really want to learn more about the actual development and evolution of the story and game as a whole. This feels like people just retelling what I already know just with different words lol.

Facts. I’d love to hear more about the story. Growing up with the game as a kid I liked the guns and claptrap now I’m 21 I want to hear about the creation of the story and characters stuff like that

The two guys on the right had more to do with the development than the writers. That's a common misconception from gamers, though. Writers might have high-level story ideas, but the devs lead the charge.

I actually really enjoyed presequel more than I expected. Really my only complaint was that it could've been longer.

I would kill for more content in Pre-sequel (I mean only in the games. Of course.) While I do love almost everything in it, there's not a week, where I wouldn't think how cool it would be, if we had some new content. But I understand, that it was sadly taken as financial dissapointment.
    But otherwise cool podcast.
I could listen for hours about this game's development.

I hope all these recaps are eventually leading towards a Borderlands 4 reveal.

As a Australian, I can confirm that kangaroos are bloody dangerous. They go back on their tail and kick you, they can literally rip your chest open with their claws in one kick

Borderlands is great, but, where is brothers in arms?

I'm sayin! How great would a final Brothers in Arms on modern hardware be.. (obviously with the old squad tactics intact, not dumbed down)
With that cliffhanger at the end of "Hell's Highway" the fans deserve a closing game. You know.. Brothers in Arms really could be one of the best WW2 games ever if they did the right things. It's gameplay is tactical best of the best for boots on the ground.. but it's shooting/movement could use some smoothing.. some better animations.. more variety in location and maybe variety in squad types and you're on the right track.

I really enjoyed The Pre-Sequel and have played it right through many times. However, I feel that Handsome Jack really is the weakest link in the game; I just don't buy his characterisation in the story, or his turn that supposedly turns him into the villain we know him to be. He had already orchestrated the events of the first game, so he should already be a scheming bastard by the time we meet him in The Pre-Sequel; he shouldn't even be pretending to be a nice guy. He doesn't have to be "relatable" for us to follow him, just entertaining.
But I think that comes down to the fact most writers just aren't good at writing villain protagonists. This is true for films and books as well as games. They just aren't allowed to be villains for the most part; even Jack's turn is rather jarring in the game itself.

It honestly kinda feels like they just threw on a bunch of folks who just played the games and not anyone who actually worked on the games to this one which is a bit disappointing. Like, it's stated numerous times Claptrap was given a stair-climbing wheel in exchange for his door opening perks (however that works) but its talked about as if that was never ever a factor.
Ntm, these guys talk about that Claptrap is ALL roulette and that's just not true. I've played Claptrap, I've gotten to UVHM with him through all the campaigns, he is 100% not the hardest character to use. That honor goes to Aurelia, she's absolutely horrible and squishy lmao
