Borderlands 2 really set the bar for the looter shooter genre
Absolutely adored this episode. BL2 is such a special game to so many of us. I could listen to this discussion forever.
Borderlands 2 is one of the very few games that I have to come back & play it again & again. This interview makes me want to start a whole new playthrough! It's still one of my all time favorite games. So awesome to hear new details that I never knew about this beloved game!
I'll never forget when I first saw the cover art of borderlands 1 and was like I'll check it out and automatically loved it, I spent almost 2 days playing it.
BL2 one of my favorite FPS of all time.
Borderlands 2 is so iconic and revolutionary to the entirety of looter-shooter games,
Most other games can never get the perfect combo of well balanced and the need to know how skills and what weapons to use is just absolutely perfect
along side with good story, comedic value, memorable characters, interesting areas, enemies and bosses
Absolute masterpiece.
Waiting for BL4
Im liking these interviews. It's like a more flushed out Nerdvana Podcast from 2018 before they announced BL3. Im calling it! BL4 next year within timing of the movie release
Highly doubt it tbh. They just teased that they’re working on it. After all the backlash they got for bl3’s shit story i feel like it’ll take a bit longer than just over 4 years to work it all out

I guess they needed to give players a vent to tell Birch how annoying he is. :P
@@tempanon8672 I never personally got the birch hate. He's very open about why he writes the way that he does and his regrets for said writings that in hindsight he wishes he could've writen better. Not a masterclass writer for sure I'd take him over pitchford as a boss any day
@@sgtltcap6323 He certainly feels like a lightning rod for the "cringiest" parts of Borderlands's humor. It ties in kinda neatly into the "love/hate, but don't be meh." thing the boss director mentioned because without him for BL3, the story was pretty, blah.
@@tempanon8672 that's a fair point. I always felt like the twins were written by someone trying to emulate his style of side characters. And he they kept the philosophy that he talks about in this video that he got from portal and bioshock of the villain talking to you through the whole game. Unfortunately what they had to say wasn't great
@@sgtltcap6323 The person they mentioned with that philosophy and worked on Bioshock, Paul Hellquist, did not work on Borderlands 3.
Dear God let borderlands 4 go back to its borderlands 1 roots. No made for a modern audience, gen targeted rubbish. Hope they learned form 3 & whatever that recent tales of the borderlands thing none of us bought was.
I honestly didn't mind bl3 but bl2 was the goat for sure. Wonderlands was a joke. I spent 100 bucks to get all the dlc and everything and only played it for maybe 2 months?! It just didn't feel like borderlands to me. Shoot, the pre sequel was better than wonderlands.

I feel they are going to remove a lot of what make borderlands, borderlands.. I doubt they will include midgets as an enemy for example..
3 wasn't even that terrible, the dlcs for bl3 perfectly capture a beautiful blend of the previous atmospheres like planets like Xylorgous. new tales shouldve never been released.
@@BicycleThief2506 exactly. I don't care to play games like that, they should've focused their energy and resources elsewhere. Dlc for wonderlands was laughable, they could've done better.
I remember around 2015 going to Gamestop and texting my friend asking what co-op games to get. Borderlands 2 was one of them. I got a pre-owned copy for the 360 and played a little to catch up to him. I knew I this was going to be one of my new favorites when Lilith showed up.
I love that pretty much every story so far has been "yeah, we totally pulled that out of our ass last minute and it worked"... for the whole series. 😅
Wouldn't have it any other way it fits the vibe, haha.

i grew up playing borderlands 2 (and consider myself a big fan) and it was really fun to hear about the cool production stuff and how the story & boss fights & stuff evolved 👍👍 keep it up

No it really wasn't. Anthony Burch's writing just kinda elevated a pretty standard by the numbers video game plot with the likes of Handsome Jack and all of the enemies
I've been playing games since the atari 2600 and this was the first game where I actually looked into the writers and voice actors, I was blown away by how fun and irreverent BL2 was.

Honestly Handsome Jack was the death knell for the series. They just try to recapture that some type of character and writing with the same 2012 "lol so random" humor that was barely tolerable at the time.
I really hope borderlands 4 learns from borderlands 3 and takes more inspiration on borderlands 2, not a cash grab which uses the same models with different textures from bl3, something actually spent time on not just for some money but to actually "care" about the games storyline if that makes sense, a reboot of bl3 would be good if written right
I love the series but please give us proper gear editing options. Even a gear dismantling and recombining parts kinda thing. Or a module system where you could slot in mods into items. Etc...
The idea that the player shouldn't ever get what they want? I think it needs a way to give them what they want eventually. Like, a thing that tracks how many times you killed a boss, and the more times you've killed it the more likely you'll get his legendary drops.
Just balance the game better it will make the design variety more approachable

Increase the drop rate for the norfleet and have it drop from uranus and saturan and verniv needs to spawn increase in tvhm and craw needs to have a pearl drop increase.
Jack is the greatest bad guy of all time! They should have a character that’s Jacks son from one of his side chicks that’s out for revenge or searching for info about his dad and builds up to revenge?
awful idea lol hes never ever stated that he has a son, for one. two, he doesnt have side chicks, he had a wife that he was devastated by the loss of. three, what son of Handsome Jack would be angry and vengeful about his death when he was the biggest dick in the entire galaxy? this is such a garbage throwaway idea that i wouldnt even be surprised if it were actually done 💀

@@cjware316 Timothy has nothing similar with jack, listen to his ECHOs in TPS and also play that dlc in BL3 "the handsome jackpot" or whatever the naming is. Timothy is just a normal person that got into all those events. I doubt that even in the sickest imagination he could be a villain

I enjoy and have played hundreds of hours in all of them, but even if you don't think BL3 is good, saying there's only 2 good ones would mean what?... That BL1 and BL2 are the only good ones?
Damn someone needs to let these guys no that Salvador is not the only endgame character. They did a fantastic job creating the single best endgame mode in the series. It’s the only one that’s truly difficult but at the same time every character is viable, even at OP10. Every game since BL2 has had nothing that caters to the hardcore players because it’s simply to easy. Please, please, please, in BL4 make another hard endgame! I’d love to see an endgame even harder than OP10
