Deer waterholes need to be hidden and there is a reason that some hunters can get away with not hiding any of them, and other hunters need to hide every one....
Do deer in forests have feeding areas they always go to, or do they just forage acorns at the places they are falling? I hunt Fort Knox KY and there are mainly rivines with no ag. Thanks.
With Oct 1 opener is it too late to dig one of these into a spot do you think?
Dose a water hole have to be off a deer trail or if you no deer are in the area will they just find it and start using it?
So what is the purpose of putting the branch in there? I've seen several watering hole videos where they have a branch or log in it? Does it provide some sort of supplements to the water or something?
Never mind, I found the answer. It's for varmints to get out.

I do not. It taints the water in some way...have seen where deer completely avoid salt and water combos. Think about it too...if you are thirsty the last thing you probably want to drink is salt water...

Hey, I have a property that is a soybean field in Ontario. In the field Edge there is a small swamp that is in a small forest area. I have seen track inside of the small area as that's the only source of water around. I have a idea of direction the deers are comming, not sure where they are bedding. the ground in the forest areas is muddy and not much trees to hang a tree stand, should I set up a ground blind outside on the fields edge or inside of the small forest thank you

Would it be bad to have the water hole on the food plot?
Mac McCaa that is a great question and I am glad you asked...I strongly encourage you not to put them together. Your access, level of impact and ability to shoot s mature buck is much greater when the water is at least 50-100 yards off of the plot. They should be already headed to the plot...the water narrows down that point and gives you multiple stand locations without over pressuring the plot. I hope that makes sense...
How do you keep Algie out of the water? Or will they still drink out of it

Do cars affect deer movement?
Somewhat? I haven't found a true mature buck bedding area next to a driveway...but where cars even more constant like a highway or country road, I have seen buck bedding right up against the road.
It really depends on the frequency and where the area is next to food, then doe bedding and then buck bedding. However, open food plots adjacent to car traffic is a bad setup unless the plot is fully screened and not pointing at the road.
Cars in general are quiet. I would much rather take my truck to pick up deer after dark than even a tractor or definitely an ATV...just because of stealth.
Cars coming into a cabin 200 yards into a hunting parcel the night before the hunt, cars driving by unscreened food plots, cars driving through your best bedding area on your land...even just a driveway, can all lead to poor results.
I hope that helps! In right circumstances they can be OK...in the wrong they can hurt you.
If there's alot of creeks around, like in the s.e. its not as attractive. But I like the idea
Mr. Skeptical definitely helps when it's dry! When deer are needed dry and don't have water on the way to their afternoon food source it helps a lot too
