US rock band Metallica have achieved a new Guinness World Records title after becoming the first musical act to play a concert on all seven of Earth's continents. Metallica actually performed on all seven continents in a calendar year, following tour dates in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australasia in 2013.

My introduction to Snarky Puppy was when I was working at Barnes & Noble. Someone put 'Sylva' on as an in-store play, and I literally stopped what I was doing and ran back to the music department to find out what it was. Most of the music I just kind of tune out because it's some top 40 rubbish or some other music I find boring, but this was something special that grabbed me immediately. I actually haven't had a chance to hear Fearless Flyers, will have to fix that right now. :)

Mark, great interview. Enjoyed it very much.
Mary, that talk was very inspiring.
I think both of you really need to concentrate, at least short-term, on songwriting, seriously. You're both very capable artists. Maybe a collab? With those two different styles of musicianship, it might prove very fruitful for your respective listeners and fans.

Oh my! I not only have a cousin (older) that looks like this guy, but there was a friend who had his own band and still plays out to my knowledge who looked like him at his age and was named Lark of all weird things and had a nephew that was growing to look like him. Lark would be in his late fifties now and played similarly. I hope that I get to connect somehow with him and let him know to check him out and hear his music. As for the Antarctic, the only thing I can think of is to merge a garage vid with scenes from there and Mark can open the door in the start, exclaim "WTF!" for dramatic effect as the band rushes up to stare at an ice shelf, close the door, the band initially freaks out at this portal transport but then resigns itself to playing a song, drinking something or other and having a relaxing time while the video flips between the band and some beautiful scenes. Then at the end, he opens the door and the band stares in awe at the fact that they are right back where they started and the last scene is a truck driving by that says Antarctic Ice--Delivered Straight to Your Door.

Back when I was traveling, I spoke at a lot of tech events all over the world. Some of my tech speaker friends who also had spoken on every continent except Antarctica asked, "Why don't we just make a conference in Antarctica?" And so the idea for AntarctiConf was born. It was hosted on a cruise ship that sailed to Antarctica. Achievement unlocked. Unfortunately, I was not able to participate, but one of my former coworkers and several of my friends in the tech industry did. Maybe there will be another one in the future. antarcticonf.com/
All that to say, if playing on all continents is something Mark really wants to check off on his bucket list, suggest he help organize a music concert cruise to Antarctica!

Antarctica is a great idea... if you can bring your own geodome, I guess... Minus sixteen celcius, tho. Other options include playing on the ramp of the C130 while on the landing strip, or getting in at the US base, but that probably involves making it part of a research project....
