- Third update on my garden layout.
We take a look at more rolling stock that will run on the line, laying the track, adding sidings and the first proper running session. Enjoy!

Looking good! Glad you’re finding excellent ways of passing the time during lockdown! Enjoy!
thanks Fred its been great combining the nice weather and a railway project so couldnt ask for more really, now the weathers abit cooler am hoping to get abit more done on the loft layout and a few more loco reviews and running sessions
Awesome job you've done. The reuse of the feather edge board has given me a great idea as well. Thanks for the upload.
no problem thanks for watching, am glad i finally used the timber as i have had it sat in the garden for over a year left over from a job i was doing on someones house and the challenge was to try and build something without the need of a trip to bq jouring the lockdown and to keep me busy in the nice weather as i cant really sit around doing nothing when am in the garden so its kept me going lol
Looks great nice job 👍
thanks mate am still toying with extending it slightly, thanks for watching. Tom
Iam in southport not far good luck mate
Exellent layout aswell,very nice job.
thanks it kept me busy jouring the first lockdown when we had all that nice weather, and i had the g scale stuff in storage for years so it was nice to be able to use it
Absolutely brilliant, I can`t wait to share this with my grandsons.
Thanks Philip, glad you like its been keeping me busy
@@northwesttrainsmodels Same with me, getting a bit done on my layout for a change and not one moan from wife.
thats good am looking forward to seeing your progress
Wow! I love this. I have an HO system that goes around my living room, I am thinking of doing a small N scale, now I want to do a G scale outside! You make it look so easy, but Im sure it will kick my butt! haha
its alot easier than you think, if you have the space i would definitely recommend g scale its good fun especially outdoors, i did a small n gauge layout this time last year which was good as it just sat in my office and didnt take up much space, the ho system sounds good i wouldnt mind trying an american n gauge layout one day as another small layout project, thanks for watching, Tom
very nice some nice rolling stock great running session really looks good some really good detail on the engine stay safe and well all the best al 😄👍👍👍👍👍👌
thanks Al its been good fun so far ive just finished the platform for the station today out of concrete so that will be in the next update, i think the lgb locos are great the usa loco hasnt been ran in 10 years and still runs like new am going to have to look up on how to service them at some point, thanks for watching, Tom
I have that same little green lgb engine running on my line. I also have a really expensive christmas version of it that was some exclusive thing
they are great little engines its the first thing you think of when you see lgb stuff
@@northwesttrainsmodels yeah
Love your layout. I'm looking for inspiration for mine and yours is a size I can wrap my head around. Too bad I don't have a pond ;) I'm new to the hobby so the only place I can think to find parts for your Bachmann would be on the Bachmann store but it's currently closed due to the pandemic. I would try some garden railroading and g scale forums maybe. G Scale Central and the Garden Railways Magazine forums might be worth checking out. Congrats on your awesome layout!
you can soon add a pond and it doesnt take long to learn the basics i definatly wouldnt say i was an expert but my diy skills do come in handy as i am in the building trade but i find you learn as you go along and forums are a great idea as theres always people offering help and advice, g scale society is good also, thanks for watching and get yourself a spade and dig yourself a pond lol
Hi.
I’ve been following your layout with great interest.
I noticed on you passing loop by the station, only has one yellow isolating fishplate. How do you isolate any train on the loop whilst other trains go by? I ask as I can’t see any other method of isolation at the other end.
Thx👍
Hi thanks for watching the videos. The passing loop isn't Currently isolated at all the yellow fishplate was on the point from my dads old layout it doesn't interrupt the connectivity unless there's one the opposite end aswell but at the moment I just use the switch inside the lgb locos that puts them in static mode when not running ill hopefully try and isolate them properly in the spring and I mite also extend the track slightly around the edging stones of the pond rather than on top
Hi just subscribed to your channel and have my first G Scale starter set due in the next couple of days. I understand from asking questions on Facebook that the whole track is live so how do you isolate the train in the siding to stop both trains moving at the same time? Sorry if this is obvious I last had a train set about 50 years ago so it’s been a while.
Hi thanks for subscribing, unfortunately yes all the track on sidings and loop sidings is live on lgb track, if your getting an lgb starter set there is a switch in the loco cab so u can have it so it won't move while another locos moving on another track but can still have the lights and smoke on, the proper way to do it is use plastic fish plates between the points and have a seperate controller or isolation switch and the easier way but far more expensive is to go digital were all the locos are controlled individually by the controller rather than the track, hope this is helpful, thanks for watching. Tom
@@northwesttrainsmodels I’ve gone for a Piko starter set so not sure if it has the switch in the cab. It’ll just be the one train for now anyway, thanks for the advice.
@bgmcollective5443 no problem, am not sure myself if piko locos have switches, I've always had lgb or bachmann, hope you enjoy your set. Tom
👍
thanks again. Tom
Do you find you have any problems with track power loss,i would like to be advised wether or not to use track clamps?,cheers
Hi i dont have any issues so far but my line is only small for g scale there slightly under 30ft of running line so the basic lgb controller handles it fine, if you were having a larger layout then i thing the track clamps would be a good idea
@@northwesttrainsmodels Hi mate,i now have all the pieces i think i'm going to use.I have a 12ft oval, with a passing siding loop, and a 8ft siding.I may extend the length,i'm not quite sure as we are moving in the near future,so i may make the layout another 4ft long by using the Piko 1200mm straights.I accuired 3 set track radius 1 points, which i have refurbished.I watched another interesting video on you tube, about making the points so they are self isolating like OO gauge, insulfrog. This is done very easily by cutting off the joining track bars underneath at each end,and also the bar underneath the blades of the points at the front by the switch for the points.then the power is fed only through the contact on the inner rail, hope this tip is useful.cheers
@@anthonyhawkins9432 cheers Anthony ill look into that about the points, don't forget to send some pics of your progress when you get started 👍 I've just extended mine slightly.
@@northwesttrainsmodels Hi mate, thankyou for your kind words of support, glad your getting on well with your track.keep up the great work, any more videos to come,i will keep you updated with progress.cheers Ant
@@anthonyhawkins9432 hi Ant yeah I've uploaded a few updates recently if you want to take a look 👍
Check out Hartland Locomotive Works for insanely cheap field wagons. Their kits are a great deal, and the Mack engine is a great addition for kitbashing too. Love the set up man
thanks i will take a look
You know your Missing a Front Trailing trucks on that 4-6-0 engine
Hi yes it was part of an accident one christmas am still on the look out for a replacement so i can get the loco up and running again.
