Just want to give you a well deserved compliment. You break down every aspect of the game in such an easy to understanding way. We all thank you. Love your new home, it's beautiful.
I feared for the life of that mirror, figuring at some point the relatively cramped space was going to result in a "what happens when a 6 iron hits glass" moment. Subscribed. Enjoyed the mini-lesson.
Hi Coach Carolin, I do think your coaching is amazing so thank you. On this short video you make the excellent point that don’t rely on the hands position at address to get you into the correct dynamic delivery position. You get there by a correct downswing (not holding onto the wrong angles) tied in with a dynamic pivot motion of the body in the second part of the downswing as you rotate into impact. Many of your viewers have got caught up with your initial broadcast statement about golfers can’t simply create this dynamic position at address in the set up. That’s right they can’t but it does not prevent them from having a slight hands forward position at address with short or mid irons like the 7 iron. Hope you get my point? Many amateurs like me get the wrong idea and think they need to pull the club across their body into impact to achieve this pro like hands forward position. Whereas the pros are merely getting into the slot having unhinged their lead wrist almost like hitting / smashing down on an impact bag off to their right side of their body but timing that with the body pivot / rotation with takes their hands from this unhinged position off to the right side of their body through body rotation into a hands forward shaft leaning impact condition. Your video concentrated mainly on the lateral shift aspect of this movement. But the role of the hip opening the chest opening / body rotation as you move into impact carries the hands into the pro like hands forward / shaft leaning impact condition. Many of us amateurs fail to ever get there because we start off on the wrong foot by swaying off / away from the ball in the takeaway. We then further exacerbate the problem by misunderstanding how to hold onto lag. So we fail to unhinge our lead wrist earlier enough in the downswing. So we end up tipping the club over the swing plane on the way down by hitting from the top with our shoulders / upper body, in essence reversing the correct sequence of lowering the arms first then adding in rotation. Myles
I have never listened to you before. However, I want you to know that your explanation was excellent and it was easily understood. You’re a teacher for a reason thank you young lady. Many blessings.
This is such a smart tip. It simplifies the differences for the hands' position in set up for driver versus irons. It also helps to set up the motion for shifting pressure. Thanks
Carolin is the Best golf instuctor on UA-cam. I encourage everyone who wants to be a great golfer to watch All her videos as her lessons have improved my game tremendously. Thanks Carolin.
She’s certainly got the most impressive hallway 😂 and her English is impeccable. You need a good awareness of the shortcomings of your own swing for any online instruction to be useful.
@@f.scott.fitzbeagle she has a manly sounding voice with an accent. Plus, she has no professionalism constantly being barefoot, which I can't stand. No one wants to see that. Put on some socks
Well Done! As an aging athlete, the weight shift is my nemesis, but something I work as a drill everyday. Nice new 'hallway' -- hope you post the blooper when a mirror gets cracked. Thank You!
I could still get weight forward correctly yet early release and bowing the lead wrist finally got me compressing the ball with forward shaft lean at impact.
Brilliant demonstration of how to create forward shaft lean using lateral weight shift in the downswing and not the placement of hands in a forward shaft lean position at set up for ball turf contact.
Thank you - I have been trying to solve my iron striking problems by leaning my hands forward before take away. It did help a lot with stopping the sway back on take away, and it works for good contact. But it reduced my distance and the ball often goes left. I think I must just move forward more before the strike (getting older now in 60s).
Good explanation, Martin Hall from School of Golf agrees with you and I just watched his video on this last night. You explain it just like he did about weight shift and not really anything with the hands. Good job.
I have been struggling with chunks and balding shots and I have a forward, pre-set shaft lean in my set up. 😂 I will do this drill as part of my pre shot routine and minimize the forward press. Thank you.
Caroline, if you are on the red note , please let me know I will follow you! I did your hallway drill at GYM, people are asking me where I learned this from😊
I noticed when I'm hitting practice shots when I set up straight up and down zero shaft lean, I hit nice crisp shots that sound good and feel good, But when I'm playing I'm scared to set up that way, even if it's to see how it goes. But after watching this, I'm all in.
A couple years ago I saw a UA-cam video showing to preset and being a moron I tried it and immediately started fading to slicing, I found that doing it opens my shoulders at set up. I'm lucky my daughter was visiting and knows my swing and fixed it fast.
Coach Carolin: I don’t disagree that starting your swing with FSL doesn’t translate to FSL at contact, but I find it to be a swing key that just plain works for ball contact before ground contact. It seems to trick my mind into believing that the ball is farther forward than it actually is, so my forward press is more forward - to a good result. Tony Finau has an exaggerated forward lean at address. You would have to ask him what it does for him - tricks his mind? Swing keys are part of the swing. Nicklaus said he only focused on 2 things: his right thigh on the backswing, and his left thigh coming back. Why that worked - who knows. So I’m not saying that one should have a forward lean, just that it may serve to trick your brain like it does for me.
This can also work the other way unfortunately and lead to them "falling backwards" in the downswing as a compensation and struggling with consistent contact. I am a fan of a natural weight shift motion as it is also easier on your back!
Make sure you do your hip stretches first! That weight transfer from right to left can cause problems if you don't stay limber. (As I've discovered from personal experience!)
It's a fair point but, it very much depends on the players movement pattern as to how they get into a compressed impact position, for example, Trevino and DJ setup with their hands forward because of their strong left hand grip and then rotate hard, players whose grip is 'weaker' Spieth, olazabal, hogan, tend to have more lateral movement, weight moving towards the target, to produce the impact conditions they need. Lots of ways to make it work 😊
The main reason is that, as well as having excellent technique and timing, they are physically stronger. I think most people would be astonished by just how strong are the top pros. It is similar, in some respects, to Formula 1 drivers. The G forces they withstand while controlling their cars to a fine degree are far greater than even the most extreme roller-coasters. The average driver simply couldn't function under such strain.
Wait, the new "golf hallway" has mirrors? Lol, never mind the incredibly valuable lesson, let's see of couple of full swings! I give those mirrors about 2 months, if that.
It's not only the weight shift, it's also hip turn where the hands follow the rotation around the torso. Simple weight shift with square hips would be throwing your hands forward and away from yourself. Nothing good comes feom that
google images of pga pros setup with irons. No one is setting up with the club aligned to their belt buckle. Everyone sets up with their hands toward their lead leg. The only club and shot that they would setup aligned with belt buckle is a pitch shot.
sorry I dont agree, a moderate forward shaft lean at address helps to return on the downswing to the same position the hands were at set up and it prevents the flipping

The truth is that the pro spent enough resources and free time to achieve who they are today. Working adults and recreational golfers are just having fun. Different approaches. The average Koreans and Japanese are spending so much to get the results they want. The machinery and crazy equipment. These extra methods and what I call accessories will only help you 20-30 yards additional.
I don’t believe that the average golfer can achieve what you are saying, unfortunately that is why handicaps haven’t changed in 50 years absolutely to much UA-cam people trying to convince 20 handicap players to try and do what professionals are doing. It’s absolutely ridiculous how so many so called experts are giving advice without seeing what someone is doing. Start at the putting green and chipping area and work back to the driving range if you really want to see improvement.
I disagree. I was a 20 handicap and without any pro lessons and just watching UA-cam, I am now an 8 handicap after 4 years. This channel has contributed to my improvement.
Silly comment. I went from 21 to 3.2 in 6 years without lessons but learning about biomechanics, and seeing instructional videos and photos of good players. If your IQ is sufficient, and you're interested in doing the work. You can improve significantly
This is a drill of feeling, how would an average golfer NOT be able to apply what she is saying? Her drill/instruction was to feel the weight in her back foot on the back swing and then feel the weight shifting forward and in her left foot to start the down swing. Did you watch the video or just Joe Rogan it and read the title of the video? 😂
I totally disagree. Watch sagutogolf. He teaches the importance of having the weight forward and the front side forward at address with the irons because that moves the bottom of the golf swing just slightly past the ball at impact. Thus eliminating all fat and thin golf shots.
I am not saying not to put weight on the front, that is completely correct, but instead I am saying not to create forward shaftlean with the HANDS only, and in the absence of weight shift. So Saguto and I are in agreement!
the trick is to not need more space but to keep it compact and on plane! You should have seen my last hallway now that was narrow ! haha but welcome to the channel!

It also helps to begin the lower body weight shift to left side, slightly prior to fully completing the backswing….Nice video and explanation.

This is why some players use the stack and tilt. They're not good at timing the lateral shift, so they just preset their weight on the front side.

with irons. No one is setting up with the club aligned to their belt buckle. Everyone sets up with their hands toward their lead leg. The only club and shot that they would setup aligned with belt buckle is a pitch shot.
I slide and not laterally shift ugh
The face of your club looks open when you are coming through the ball looking like a cut shot. When I do this, it turns into a shank.
sorry I dont agree, a moderate forward shaft lean at address helps to return on the downswing to the same position the hands were at set up and it prevents the flipping
Yes but that needs to be created with your BODY angles and hip not by just pushing the hands forward. So we still agree!
Nice house. Must be making good UA-cam money!
maybe you should watch Lee Trevino
I rather you watch Lee Trevino....
If you hover the club, that doesn't happen. It's only the friction of the club on the floor producing it. There's more to it.
Hm Phil Mickelson says otherwise. I have a slight forward shaft lean and it works. Depends on the golfer I think.
Very good instructions but I cringe every time you swing towards those mirrors 😮
