I was playing the DCS speed and angels campaign and I got up to thr AAR and I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t contact tanker, thank you so much for helping me and a lot of other new DCS players
One thing to add..What will help in distinguishing is when you’re looking at the DCS comms menu and are choosing the tanker. At the top of that list it will show you the radio you’re transmitting on. In the viper the ded main page will also show the used radio highlighted. Make sure you’re transmitting on the 189 in the tomcat if jester set the frequency in the campaign. Not the 156 which is the pilots radio. You can see that info at the top of the DCS comms menu clearly and can adjust if necessary. Awesome much needed video man!
Love your campaigns and I have purchased all of them… the only “complaint” is for “fear the bones” because you can complete the mission before landing… I know you could go ahead and land but… you don’t have too.. it feels like why even start on the boat?
Ah yes, the ol' it couldn't possibly be pilot error excuse. I'm so thankful for the level of realism of your campaigns. They made me a far more proficient and attentive pilot in DCS and (also) in real life when I made that leap.
I liked the parable of the telephones so that everyone understands. You are very important in this community, without you, Reflected Simulations, DCS would not be the same at all. After leaving the easy comms, about 3-4 years ago, I never clicked on easy communications in the options again, there is a different pleasure when we have to tune in to the right frequency to communicate with whoever it is, who still uses them should try and insist just a little before giving up, and after passing that barrier, you will understand me it is actually very gratifying for real immersion you may think is just a detail but it is a huge detail, would be the same cheat as flying with infinite fuel.
I really like how you built the background comms going on in your campaigns... I feel like I am hearing the tea getting spilled when they are reporting hung stores to range control... I'm like "man, sucks to be that guy..." then I realize that these communications probably actually happened.
the same as the VHF and UHF radios in the F16, When i played some servers where Easy communications where tunred off, i was confused about why my Comm button did not work. Only to realise there are two of these comm buttons on the throttle for a reason. u3u Amazing video reflected, u did it again. :)
Easy comms are terrible. Never use it, never will. Of course you dont get much of a choice with FC3/4. Appreciate you taking the time to educate the heathens ;) I often use Allied Flight Reports, which turns on the callouts from AI aircraft, wake turbulence, and for MP servers Cockpit Visual Recon is a must. It can have some benefits in SP too.
Been going through the F16 Arctic Thunder campaign this week, it's the first DCS Campaign I've really delved in to, and radio's were the first stumbling block. Came up on the tanker, followed the formation flight as planned, waited on the others to refuel, then my turn. I radio the tanker, silence.... Tried again, checked my frequencies, still nothing. After 15min of blaming the mission for being buggy, I realised I wasn't using the correct radio to make the call. Now running very low on fuel and already late for ToT for the attack, that refuelling was definitely one of the most stressful I've done.
1:43 With easy comms, you don't necessarily hear everyone else. Only who you last spoke to. Easy comms only changes your radio frequency automatically for you, whenever you're using the comms menu.
A good idea to cover this topic! In the keybind settings that were shown there were also VOIP 'alternatives'. I'm wondering what those are for. Anyone know?
As for me, you explained what is obvious, since I use easy comm only in FC planes. But sometimes the reason of lack of reply can be different. The signal can be simply blocked by mountains, or the ATC tower is too far away. On Kola map, I can hear nothing from 200 miles and heavy static from 100 miles.
@jakubdabrowski3846 that’s also true - although the tanker is usually close and flying high. IMO ED has way overdone the radio degradation with distance.
Hi Reflected, Thank you for this video and HNY. Very helpful. Just a quick question - in this video, are you using trackIR? Your settings look smooth and I like the FOV you have. Would you consider doing a video on this or posting your template for TrackIR? Thanks.
Is more people would use the radio when on public servers, you wouldn't be so uncomfortable using the radio. I intentionally talk a lot when in on 4YA servers just to help get guys comfortable using the radio. Its alot more fun working together, and that requires using the radio.
Sadly so many public server force easy comm enable. I love the correct use of radio but the lack of proper documentation of frequencys or a enabled easy comm, lower the fun on public servers. Thanks for you video.
Damn Reflected, I would got mad if I would every day need to repeat people simple things that is written in every support information in the campaign documents that are supplied with the all your campaigns.
Most of those complaints come from people dumb and not willing to learn or just lazy. Average WT players who want a play a simulator like an arcade game.
Not really. DCS is lousy at explaining shit. That's the problem. Like "easy flight mode" completely breaking most modules and making them unable to be flown. It's too easy to blame the user when you know damn well the game sucks and you had just as much trouble learning when you started because of it.
@@RedTail1-1 The DCS manual covers plenty. There's also a tooltip that says the easy flight mode can cause issues. These paid campaigns also come with manuals.
Fawk No .. I dont want to deal with Radio BS.. Its just scripting gates anyway... Now do more twiddle finger things. Your not talking to anyone your are just walking through a script.
@@RavenCodex I'll let you in on a secret: you're not really flying these jets, it's all just 'scripting gates' ;) But yeah, the option should be there.
@@Wolfhound_81We need a large base to keep DCS funded- if it means having some easy buttons so be it. And it’s not just players who don’t enjoy realism, but also the players who like realism but don’t have time to learn everything all at once.

Been there and dnne that (No comm's), also on SRS (transmitting to the wrong agency). It's called a study level sim for a reason 😉

They need to add a radio for Combined arms. So we can run escort missions and such, and play a functional JTAC.
