Howdy, Brother! I purchased some Coleman camping gear, including the 425F stove in 1989. The children grew up so fast but had some great Coleman camping memories. I have a vey similar model from the early 70s, handed down from my father (RIP). Still works like a charm!
My dad gave me his and when I asked when he first used it he said they were on a hunting trip when Mr Kennedy got shot!! It still works today.
Great video! I just got a 425F on eBay and it looks brand new. Maybe used once. I remember trying these stoves out as a Boy Scout and always wanted one. This video was perfect for future maintenance. Thanks!

Just picked up my first 425 at a yard sale for $10. It's a '98 model and looks to be in really good shape. The corner is dented in pretty bad but doesn't seem to affect functionality or levelness. Went through and cleaned it with a rag dipped in soapy water. Can't wait to get it out to the lake! Your videos are super helpful. I'm a newbie but I already share the same love for these stoves!

I love coleman lanterns and stoves.. I just picked up 1994 Coleman Model 226-700 Dual Fuel single mantle lantern. Fantastic shape. Rare collector ;)
I bought one on ebay a few years back that worked but not very well. It has a gold tank. I watched a couple of this guys vids and cleaned it up. I didn't have any carb cleaner so I bought some STP injector cleaner and ran a bottle through it! Throws out a nice blue flame now!

I have three Coleman's, and the third one I found on the street, for free. The outside was not that great...I haven't taken the tank apart yet, but am using a propane converter on it currently. Works flawlessly! It's a 413e.....
I own 2 of these Coleman 425 stove. My 1st one looks a little beat up but works well. Somebody gave me my 2nd one. Put when I tried to pump up the pressure. It did seem to do anything. 2nd stove is also better looking. Thanks for this video very informative.

Great video! I always avoided this type of stove due to not really knowing anything about them. After seeing your video I don’t have that fear of the unknown! Your breakdown and explanation of all the parts really help to understand the beauty of these stoves. Now I’m off to find a old Colman or similar at a yard sale!

Another awesome Coleman. Just came from week of camping and used my every day at least once (too hot to eat much). Not a single issue. As long as you take your time priming. I noticed it's a bit better on priming if you'll fill up a burner with some fuel.

Not sure if you know about or have wawa gas stations where you are but you can actually get their fuel without ethanol in it. That’s what I run in my car and it definitely runs more efficiently and smoother.

Great videos, really enjoy and appreciate them. Have a question I think you can help with. I finally got around to taking apart my stove and making it right. I bought it in 88, used it about ten years and then sat undisturbed until I had kids and we started camping about 8 years ago. I could usually make it work, but my teenage sons have had trouble with it the last couple times they've been out with it. Finally clogged up. So took it apart to clean it and all was going pretty well, except the graphite packing was totally gone. Tried wrapping graphite packing (plumbing supply) around the stem, would work for one cycle, then gum up and leak. Anyways, finally ordered the part from old Coleman parts and waiting to come in. Question is, is there a retaining clip that goes on the valve stem on the 425F?. I can see it clearly on 425E videos and parts diagrams, but not really on the 425F diagrams or any videos out there. When I took mine apart, there was no ring in that groove (or it popped off and fell somewhere without me hearing, seeing, or able to find it). I did cut and squeeze a piece of wire that fits pretty good as a retaining ring. Anyways I'd appreciate any insight you can give on reassembling the valve stem with the new packing coming from Coleman. Thanks a bunch.
Excellent comment! If I remember correctly there is a little keeper and a circle clip that both ride against the packing. The keeper had a flat end and a recessed end. The flat end rides against the packing. I hope this information helps you out... thank you for support you give my channel!

Alright, so the part arrived and I installed. Works, but may need some adjustment and/or breaking in. If I tighten the nut enough to not leak at the stem, then it takes a while for fuel to stop flowing to the burner. Plus it's just hard to turn the knob. If I loosen the nut to where the burner is responsive, it leaks at the stem. Think it's getting more responsive, so maybe there is a break-in period of sorts with the packing - Please feel free to offer any insight you want/can. I'll report back with any updates as we go.

What does the F stand for in this model?
I just picked up a COLEMAN 425F
I saw it at a pawn shop.
And I never heard of it before,
But I love finding, restoring, and using ANTIQUE ITEMS.
But I do have two questions.
Where do I find one of those:
"CHECK VALVE TOOLS" you used in this video?
Because I also love collecting TOOLS no matter how old it is
(Being a MECHANIC 43 YEARS what do you expect).
And anytime, and everytime I find something "ANTIQUE"
I always expect to do a
(As we MECHANICS call it):
"COMPLETE TEAR DOWN, AND REBUILD" which I always enjoy doing no matter how dirty the job is.
The second question is:
What did you mean by "GRAPHITE"?
Are you talking like a GASKET, SEAL, ETC?
Excellent comment and questions. 1- you can get the check valve removal tool on eBay. They're a little pricy. 2- the graphite packing is a seal. You can get them online at oldcolemanparts.com

I apologize for the ignorance on my part as I don't hardly understand anything about computers.
I was an "EXTREME WORKAHOLIC" until I was forced on DISABILITY due to being a lifelong EPILEPTIC, plus I had
"TWO BACK TO BACK
HEART ATTACKS" while on the job.
Computer classes weren't an option when I graduated tells the story.
Is there even a slight possibility of finding that tool at a:
"AUTO PARTS HOUSE,
PAWN SHOP, or even crazier chance:
MAC TOOLS, SNAP-ON TOOLS?"
Because like you,
I've always believed in:
"USING THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB".
The "COLEMAN 425F" I found cost me
"$50.00",
But if it works,
That's fine by me.
Coleman used the cheapest zinc plating possible on the burners and tubes. Clean them all up and spray on VHT silver and forget about them the rest of your life. Coleman used so many different shades of green(saw a stack of seven stoves and each one had a different green), it's better to take a panel down to a auto paint shop and have them mix up a rattle can for you of that color. Cost about $20. If that's "too much" to put into an old stove, then there's no hope for you in getting things correct.....lol.

I have the 425 F. I love it but I can't make it go to simmer even with a new generator, Is it possible to make the main burner simmer or is it necessary to light both burners and use the smaller burner to the left?
I have what I think is a 425E. I cleaned it but I can't get the spring out of the tube to clean it. I've soaked the tube in brake parts cleaner for a week but the spring still is stuck in the tube.
I use unleaded gas in it. Maybe that's the problem.
Any suggestions as to how to get the spring out?

You just used soap and water to clean the tank? I just picked up the same stove and have a lot of thick build up in the tank.
I thought low octane gas had more additives. Our winter time fuel is oxigenated too. Does that make any difference to the stove?
I’m not sure if UA-cam let my comment through for some reason- I’m in Aus and my 428 stove floods when trying to light it and fuel drips out of the burner tube and I end up with a big fire- I’ve stripped it completely and found nothing wrong- it worked fine up until last week- any ideas?

Hi -I’m in Aus and have a Coleman three burner 428 stove and I’m having major problems with it and it’s quite dangerous- not many stove experts over here so I’ve been relying on UA-cam videos to try to fix it. I’ve completely stripped it but it’s still not working probably- it was working fine and then started to flood and when I tried to light it the fuel drips out of the burner tube and spills out into the floor of the stove and the flame stays yellow and gets worse when I turn the lighting lever down- any ideas?
Carefully remove the orifice nut at the end of the generator. Clean the threads with wire brush, add teflon tape in the proper rotation.
Install nut on to the threaded pipe. Run on by hand being careful that the fine generator needle does not get bent. Tighten orifice nut until it stops. The leak and dripping should be history and the stove will work well. Just did this to my 1962 coleman 4m with the same issue. Stopped the leak and great blue flame now
