Saw this match in person on my first ever visit to Wimbledon. Henman and Rusedski matches also on that day. Can hardly believe it's 25 years ago this year. A great shame that Monica Seles never won Wimbledon. Surely would have done but for the actions of that ******* in 1993.
Always thought Henin would win Wimbledon too but sadly never did. I think with Monica on grass, you'd always have to favour Jana Novotna and Steffi Graf as the ones able to beat her so she'd probably have to have avoided both of those players. As Chris Evert pointed out in 1992 too, the weather would need to be in Monica's favour. If it was hot the court would play more like a hard court and give her a better chance. Damp weather would really work against her because of the lower bounce. In later years I think Monica would have had a very tough time on grass against Lindsay Davenport, Maria Sharapova, Venus and Serena because of their power.
This match showcased more power than when the Williams sisters faced each other. Great effort from Monica, but this was a match that would have required her to be more fit and her former ferocious self to win it.
One of my fav grass matches. Two flat hitters going at it and using the whole court.

Lucic got very lucky on a number of points in this match. It hurt to see Seles lose this match😢
