Dude, you gave the best tutorial online - no gimmicks or cheeky puns - just to the point. You didn't waste any of whatever life I have left on this planet instead you edu-ma-caited me 👍
Finally got my Insta360 X3 and got around to installing Karta in Davinci. Everything worked well except it took me a few minutes to figure out that after you install the plugin you have to shut down Davinci one time because the effect wasn't populating in the Effects List. After I shut it down and went back into the program the effect was exactly where you said it would be. Thanks again for this video. By far the best explanation on how to get this going
By far, the best tutorial I have found explaining this whole process from beginning to end. With bonus material at the end of the video to make me a better creator. Tyvm. Cheers

Awesome tutorial! Your clear instructions make reframing 360 videos in DaVinci Resolve look so simple and effective. Keep it up! 🎥✨ Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹
Hey this video is finally the one that helped me a lot. Will I be able to export my footage from insta 360 in log mode? That way I can color correct in DaVinci or is that not an option
This is a really great tutorial, thank you, I have one ? tho......Let's say you have your raw 360 video and you reframe it as shown above.....What are the render or export settings to keep the framing target but the video to still be 360, that way When I fire the video up in VR it is reframed and I can still look around?!!! Any advice would be awesome!
Great video! One question: Am I understanding you correctly that the resolution of the 360 video in the free version of Davinci Resolve is lower than in 360 studio? (4k instead of 5.7k?)
The quality is slightly worse but I am not sure if it is because of the 4k timeline resolution instead of 5.7k. I recently purchased the Studio version of Davinci Resolve and it allows me to make custom timeline resolutions. When making a 5.7k timeline, the quality was pretty much the exact same as the 4k timeline. Not sure what the issue is (it may just be an issue with Karta VR) but the footage quality is still fairly high.
Great video, I've been playing with the new insta360 studio that has project option to join clips, but it's sadly lacking a lot of things, one of them being joining 2 or more clips so they are one clip - can this be done in Resolve timeline with these clips/plugin? My goal is to join 2 or more clips together of a nature scene and then have the reframe pan very slowly so it does a single 360 turn in the length of the video. Trying this in insta360 Studio is almost impossible because you can't span 2 clips with keyframes, and having the 2nd clip start off exactly where the first left off is almost impossible. Joining the clips would solve this. I was going to export the 16x9 reframed clips then bring into resolve and try & meld the clips seamlessly, but this sounds like a better option. update - if you are going to merge 360 clips in Resolve into a new compound clip, do it before you drag the effect onto your clip, otherwise it won't work properly.
Thanks for this tutorial, super helpful and efficient! Are you aware of a way to avoid the Insta360 Studio conversion step? This is not only cumbersome, but also supported on less systems than Davinci Resolve (e.g. Windows on ARM).
Thanks a lot for this video! I do need to do this for every new project, or just once and done? Also I've seen another video where the author was like "oh yeah click ALL the KartaVR stuff", which doesn't seem to be needed, your video is a lot more helpful pinpointing it down to just the one.
Thank you fro this to-the-point tutorial! Top quality! A question if I may: At 2:34, where you export the video, there is a "Davinci Settings" set at "Preset Parameters" - what are they?
I made an export preset named "Davinci Settings" so that every time I export a video, I don't have to manually switch the export settings. The preset exports the clip in 4k and checks off the "remove grain" box. I'm not entirely sure if the remove grain helps get better quality but I leave it on anyways. Hope this helps!
This is the video I was waiting for. Thank you for clearly explaining every step in what has been a confusing trial and error process, even with watching other tutorials which were incomplete. Subbed just because of this video
Hey there. Is the KartaVR plug-in still available? I really want to use your amazing tutorial (It is GREAT!) But I can't find KartaVR to download anywhere. The listed link returns an error.
Hmm thats odd. I just checked and the link works fine for me. www.steakunderwater.com/wesuckless/viewtopic.php?t=3067 here is the link again hope it works!

I have been searching for a video on this topic that is clear, easy to follow but still full full of detail and tips. You nailed it sir, Thank you so much for taking the time to share this.
Thanks for the tutorial! I intend to put this to use shooting ski vids and moving the frame to different people around me while we are all skiing down the hill together. I have not tried it yet. But you make the process look easy enough! Do you think a similar workflow would work for X3 vids shot in Me Mode? I'm not sure if those files are 1/2 of a sphere, but I know they are not the full 360 sphere. Also, do you know if it is possible to have Resolve 18 stitch the files from the two lenses together? Or is Insta360 Studio necessary for this step? Thanks again!
Sadly, Intsa360 Studio is needed to stitch the two halves of the video together. For your Me Mode question, I don't think the camera is shooting a 360 video however I do not know for certain as I do not own an X3. To test this, try importing a Me Mode video into Insta360 Studio and see if you can reframe it. Have fun making ski videos with your camera! I just went on a ski trip and got some cool footage!
Nice one for this mate! I couldn't get the shots I wanted from Insta Studio and the phone app would disconnect every few mins. This has solved that issue. Thanking you! 🙏

Just beautiful, I like the handles that allow you to adjust the transition speed. I need to invest some learning time into Davinci and this addin for my 360 video is just so amazing, will have to give the developer some love.
Thanks for the video. I am however having an issue with resolution. I have put the same clip side by side in the timeline and put the effect on one. The resolution drops considerably. Is it just me or is this an issue with Karta. I am using the latest version of DaVinci Resolve Studio. A clip I finished and exported at high res looks good on a phone screen, acceptable on an iPad but not on anything larger. Any suggestions? Cheers
There is a bit of a quality decrease. I have experimented and there is nothing we can do about it. I think it is an issue with the Karta VR software. The best way to hide this is to zoom out a bit so the frame includes more pixels
Great tutorial dude! Quick question - I saw in a previous video that you used the Gimbal Guru Cinematic Lut; do you still use it and did you use it in your previous 2022 compilation video? If so did you use auto settings and a log profile, grading in Resolve? I've just picked up the X3 and am struggling getting clean footage that's anywhere near the quality of yours. A quick tutorial on your recording settings would be fab 😊! Keep up the great work and all the best for 2023 😉!
Thanks! I actually stopped using the Gimbal Guru LUT awhile ago. This is mostly because I've spent a lot of time to actually learn how to color grade. I really enjoy the process of color grading now and I think it looks better than the LUT. Regarding my settings, I almost always use auto because it works very well and is so easy to use. The only time I use manual settings is when I am shooting a sunset/sunrise. I actually already made a tutorial on how to get high quality 360 footage so I hope it helps! ua-cam.com/video/hx9K3L6m5wc/v-deo.html I'm also happy to help if you have more questions about 360 video!

I think grading each clip separately gives better outcomes than any LUT and I also really enjoy the color grading process. For my Insta360 Studio export settings, do you mean the "remove grain?"
