There has never been ,nor will there ever be a singer as badass as Ronnie Van Zant . He made this incredible band the best rock band of all time .

Addiction is bad, and we have a country full of addicts. You're right about the pills too.
This band was just incredible live. Great reaction and commentary. Thanks.

I know you loved this one. Notice only 2 guitarists. Ed King had left in 75 and Steve Gaines had not yet joined the band but would soon.

Thank you for sharing this. They were a huge part of my teenage years. Since the passing of the last founding member Gary rossington last month I've been doing a lot of listening to them lately. Added side note this song is about him

Hey Biz! Bill Graham ran Winterland and Fillmore West and East. All these black and white videos were done for most bands for years. Sadly a lot of it was lost in a warehouse fire.

This song is actually based on real world events one of the band members was dealing with. This was the rest of the bands way of helping to remind their friend that he wasn't as alone as he feared

Hey Biz... the LS plane crash in Oct 1977 killed 3 band members and their road manager:
Ronnie van Zandt (lead singer and song writer)
Steve Gaines(1 of 3 lead guitarists)
Cassie Gaines (1 of 3 female backup singers and sister of Steve Gaines)
    Dean Kilpatrick (Road manager)
My opinion is that the band died with Ronnie who wrote all the song lyrics.

True that. Today's LS is a nothing more than a tribute band. Ronnie was the driving heart & soul of LS. Not even his brother could hold a candle to him.

A southern favorite band in the day. I'm from NW Ga. and remember having gone to see them at the Fox Theater when I was 16 (1976). They were recording their album, One More For the Road. You can watch the concert live and when they play Free Bird he says "play it pretty for Atlanta". My parents had no clue that I was there. Lol.

Yeah I agree I still have it in my collection as well. I saw them at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. the best part of the show was when they did freebird, all instrumental, with Ronnie's hat hanging from the mic stand. Amazing. I was really thankful I get to see them in Philadelphia in 78 before the plane crash

I agree, I saw the Original Band live and the tribute bands on tape. There is NO comparison. The Original band members brought the songs out of their souls, especially Ronnie Van Sant. There is no replacement for him or the other originals.

@@LynyrdSkynyrdFanI was too young to see the original band, but I’m really happy I got to see Gary, Billy and Leon with Johnny, Hughie and Ricky. They did good and I suppose I got to see a fragment of the OG band at least. But agreed, they never had anything on the original band with Ronnie. Without Ronnie there wouldn’t have been any Skynyrd.
