Nothing is the same after seeing Danny play. You either get serious or quit. Buddy Emmons was the most perfect example of technical perfection and taste. These two were destined to play together and we should be grateful we lived in a time to witness the results. Thanks and rest in peace. We will not forget you.

I disagree. Since you knew you were never gonna get there, it gave you permission to be Too Cool to Play the Game.

My life changed twice: the first time I heard John Coltrane and the first time I heard Danny. AND, I got to hear Danny live several times. I'm lucky.

Buddy Emmons & Danny Gatton were the exact mirror image bookends of style, creativity, virtuosity and technical execution on their respective instruments - nobody could keep up with them except one another!

Gatton's sense of rhythm is mind blowing. That guy is still unmatched 100 years from now.

These are the most amazing 4 musicians sharing a stage I've ever heard.

Buddy and Danny---well, what more can be said, but kudos to this great rhythm section for building a fire under them.

Danny Gatton is still my favorite guitarist and this video is one of many examples as to why.

I heard this on KPIG a couple of days ago, and I'm thinking, 'jeez, Buddy Emmons?' then the DJ says 'Danny Gatton' so I'm really confused because if anybody could make a 6 string sound like a pedal steel, it would be Gatton. So here I am, and friggin' BOTH of them on the same stage! Awesome! Saving this one.

Please don't ever tell me their has ever been a more versatile or better guitarist... incredible! The other 3 are great also, but when Danny is soloing you can see that they are mesmerized watching him play.

I hope that over the years even more rare footage of this brilliant guitar player will appear and become available. Thank you for sharing!

@jazzabilly In the last year alone, old footage of Gatton on youtube has been appearing exponentially. Collectors are starting to figure out how to use Handbrake and other video editing platforms now.

Danny is playing a Les Paul? I am really digging his tone! And who is the awesome steel player - also cool tones. Is this the "Snakestretchers"?

The very Famous Buddy Emmons. Held high as perhaps the greatest Steel player of our time. Known for the Sho Bud steel guitar.
